Shin almost wanted to say things in the brain were never simple, but she refrained, smiling gently instead as she could see the confusion and almost pain on his face as he said as much. She did not however stifle her laugh when he made a face at the dangers of mind diving, apparently not taking them seriously at all. If anything, it was something she used against people rather than have to worry about herself, but she could understand Daji’s lack of faith. Her head tilted as he said they could try, continuing to explain his predicament. At first she seemed surprised, then a little turned off, to a softer almost understanding. Before she could counter, the waiter approached, setting down tea for them both as Shin had just said to get them the same of whatever was next on the list. You had to trust the chef! She shook her head at the question of needing anything else. He scurried off, remaining attentive to them if they changed their mind. It was the tricky thing of eating out. A waiter could grab so many pieces of information depending on the how busy the restaurant was. Pushing her tea over a little, Shin reached out and took his hand gently in hers. Her hands were naturally warm and the heat of it could be felt in a comforting sense. She thought for a moment to pass him the memories, but in the end, she pulled away again having the smallest bit of caution. ”We’re somewhat similar,” she said quietly to him, her eyes closing as her expression remained smiling obviously much less troubled by this. It anything she found it pleasant. ”Someone created me,” she says thoughtfully before looking back to him. ”Tell me,” she says leaning forward again, bringing them to another topic of her interest. ”Do you think you’d still be you if you had met someone evil instead of Hayami who influenced you in entire different ways, filling your heart with maliciousness? Would it still be ‘Daji’ or would it be someone else entirely, with only a few similarities to share at a level so unconscious it barely counted?” 363 |

Combat Rune, Partner Training When the waiter brought them tea, Daji was rather thankful--he felt a little parched from the talking they were doing, especially since it seemed to be something to be really secretive about. He made sure to take a hearty gulp of the tea, finding it quite enjoyable to his tastes for a moment, so he let the flavor seep into his tongue a little bit more before he he took another drink of it, just as Shin reached up to take one of his hands in hers. It was... a warm sensation, one that found a small smile on his face when she held his hand in hers for a moment, but when she pulled away, he had a confused look on his face. Was something wron-- When she spoke up about their being similar and how someone had created her, he started coughing furiously from the surprise of it, his ears standing on end once he had caught his breath, leaning forward towards her, bringing their faces rather close to one another as she seemed to ensnare his curiosity and interest quite thoroughly. "R--really?" he asked, almost in disbelief, but the look on her face said it all--she wasn't lieing, at least as far as he could tell. But she kept going, asking him if someone other than Hayami had been there for him, would he turn out differently? He frowned for a moment, thinking on that idea for a moment, still leaning forward in his seat--a few drops of tea falling from his lips before he managed to wipe it away with a napkin. "I--I don't know. So much of... of who I am is because of her, because of all she taught me and how she helped me. It... I guess it's possible I could have ended up differently... even with a different... I guess identity altogether. But... but there's a piece of me that says some things would have been the same, even in small ways. But... I don't know. I don't know how much of me is because of Hayami and how much of me is from... from something else. But I... I guess its possible," he admitted before looking back towards Shinaki, concern on his face. "Are... are you worried about something?" WC: 381 |

Shin quickly shook her head in a clear no about being worried, waving the concern away with her hand as well. "It doesn't matter what you would have been, what you are now is all the matters~ What you do with life in front of you!" she explains confidently, smiling again with affection. She really did like the current Daji after all. "The point I'm making is that I really believe in the power nurture has over a person. There are some qualities that stick to your core, but the amount that can become distorted by your environment is huge!" She paused there, trying to think of how to continue explaining. She took the moment to warm her hands and take a sip of her tea with a quiet hum. "I wasn't completely honest when I said I didn't know what I was," she admits, referring to one of their earlier conversations. It was clear that she would not tell this to just anyone, and definitely not someone she just met. "I don't know where I'm from, but my race is what some people call an 'Ender Demon.'" It wasn't a term Daji would be familiar with, or anyone in this realm except someone exceptionally close to the fox. The only other people who could come even remotely close to understanding would have been Juch and Chaos, if only due to conversations with Yan about the existence of a function above the kais. It tied to the Lost, it tied to ascension, but it was known as something different here. An Ender Demon was a Child of Truest. "It's not something you're born as but something you become, and the only way to become it is to experience the end of everything you are. Your body, your soul, your memories, the experiences that shaped you, are all destroyed and what comes out...is something different. It creates something new." Another pause and then Shin grinned, lifting her hands to point at herself. She was the new thing, and this is what she meant by being created. "It's said the strongest qualities of someone are reborn in it but, I don't know who I was before. My memories and my identity were not the strongest apparently! They're gone and all that's left is me~" It was then that the differences to their stories connected and she rested her arms back on the table with a small apologetic look. "Somewhat similar," she repeats. 411/774 |

She wasn't worried about anything, at least not in particular, it seemed. She praised him for being who he was, that he should just do what he could with the life that was in front of him. Well... Shin was the one right in front of him, but he figured it was another metaphor, and either way, it brought a smile and nod to the forefront as he agreed with her--there was no sense in worrying about what could have been, only what was ahead of him. That was a really nice thing to think about, in all honesty. If anything, what she said, especially after that, meant that he would just have to treat people as well as he could--especially if Hayami and himself decided to have children. He had a feeling Yan was shivering at the thought. However, the discussion turned to her, describing herself as an Ender Demon--he had never heard of something like that before, at least not as far as he could remember. He remembered something called 'Endermen' or something like that, but that was just a fairy tale told between people on Yaidrat--for all he knew, it was just a story that people spoke about and it didn't have any weight to it. But for Shin to describe herself as something like that... no, he didn't sense anything vile from her, not from the start, not here and now. So she very much kind of underminded the term 'demon', especially with that bright smile on her face. She went on to describe how someone became an Ender Demon, how they had to experience the end of themselves in every possible facet, only for the strongest parts of that person to be created into something new. So essentially, Shin was... a second chance at life, but as something different? It was hard to wrap his head around, but he could not help but smile when she did, even if she had a bit of an apologetic look. "Makes sense--we were both created into something new, I think, and we don't know anything from before that. It's comforting to know someone else knows how I feel about that--but at least you know why and how you were made... I don't exactly know why or how I was created. It's... it's still a little disturbing, I guess," he said, his smile fading a little before it returned with full force again. "But like you said... that's not what matters. What matters right now is you and how I teach and guide you. If I can do that right... then that's something to be happy about." WC: 440 / 821 |

”I don’t though,” she says quickly in response to knowing the whys and hows. ”The hows are a big blur of simply understanding some things as true. What actually happened, what I went through…” There seemed to be some wear there, as if even though she could not remember they were there somewhere carved on her very existence. In a way they were. ”The previous me essentially killed themselves. I have no idea why they would go so far, what they wanted to achieve, what plans they had for this new existence. I have no idea how their life might come back around and bite me in the ass,” she continues, picking up her tea again. This time there was something like annoyance in her tone. She wasn’t unsettled by this, and instead seemed to be talking about some stranger who was an idiot and whose idiot choices might come back on her. That was how she felt. ”You can say it’s different because it was ‘my’ choice, but the person who made it was bound by experiences and memories I never had. It was made by someone who might have been completely different to what I am now,” she explains, bringing her point back to the start where she asked Daji whether he would be the same. If asked the same question her response would have been similar, unsure and unclear, but she knew how this life had gone. She knew how the experiences she had gone through so far had shaped her and how waking up with nothing had left her not with fear or confusion but a sense of freedom. Whatever she had left behind, everything in her current existence cried ‘good riddance!’ ”You know what though?” she asks after taking a sip of her tea. ”I don’t care.” It was blunt and to the point and there was no doubt in it or bravado. ”Whoever they were, they haven’t been here for me now. They haven’t been here to guide me, to help me, to lead me anywhere, and unless that changes, I don’t owe them anything,” she explains looking to him earnestly. "Neither do you." 360/1134 |

So she didn't really know the how or why either--it made his smile from before fade a little, as she seemed adamant about the fact that she was just as clueless as he was... and looking at it all, it seemed like they were about as aware of their own origins as each others--which meant that they both had no clue where they had originally came from, and why they had been made the way they were. On the one hand, the Kitsune could not help but feel some depression from that realization--neither of them knew why they had been made, and by whom. But at the same time, it did put things into perspective, especially as Shin went on to describe how she felt about her previous incarnation--whoever that person was, they were dead, and whatever legacy they left behind would probably be for Shin to deal with. Daji didn't have that sort of thing going for him, not really, but at the same time, he already felt the weight of his own actions from his past. The wrist device was gone from his arm, allowing him to fully use his powers and abilities without restriction, and yet he still felt the weight of his past actions upon his soul--first from attacking Kranzer, and second from his involvement with GRIME. So he still had his own baggage to worry about--things he still needed to resolve for himself, on his own. If anything, he could not help but feel like he was at least ahead in that department, even if he didn't feel like an advantage compared to Shin. Besides, this wasn't a contest--it was clear she was telling him a lot more than she would tell a random stranger, and there was some comfort to be found in that. And When Shin stated that she did not care about what the past life did, that she owed nothing to it, and neither did he, he could not help but smile and nod towards his friend and student. "You're right... I haven't met my creator yet, and she hasn't apparently felt the need to even influence my life... so I guess that just means I don't really owe her anything. I owe more to you and Hayami in my life, as you are people I view as precious to me. Along with Yan and Juch--all of you have had a good effect upon my life, and I'm grateful," he said, before his stomach growled a little, his ears flattening against his head for a moment. "Ah--I could really go for some breakfast, haha," he managed to say before calling over the waiter to make an order. In comparison to Shin's normally ravenous appetite, Daji merely ordered a few eggs, some toast, and a few strips of bacon--very basic, he supposed, but it was suitable for his needs all the same. He had fruit back at the dojo that he could eat a little later, though he knew Hayami would remind him to eat his greens... He really didn't like the taste of them... But he was mentally prepared for what Shin might order for food as well. It was probably a... significant portion, if past encounters were anything to go by. He almost wondered just how much she would eat today, yet still maintaining a fit figure. Well, all those calories probably went somewhere... 566 / 1387 |

Shin smiled happily at Daji’s agreement, closing her eyes in momentary happiness. When she opened them however Daji was continuing to say that he owed Shin more than Lilim which made the snake’s face twitch up in confusion as her head tilted. Luckily, Daji moved to get the waiter who quickly obliged leaving the girl with some time to think. She took her mug of tea in both hands and sat back, merely nodding at the waiter when he looked to her to make sure nothing of her order had changed. She sipped the tea and frowned. ”You don’t owe me anything Daji,” she says after a moment. ”If I’ve impacted how you think or feel about things, take it with a measure of salt. If you think I’ve purposely done anything for you, you’re wrong,” she said, watching him over her tea a bit forlorn. She set her tea down and smiled again, looking out the window and around the shop. ”I wonder how long I’ll remember any of this,” she says the smile growing into a grin even though the words were quite a bit darker than her expression. It wasn’t that she’d forget completely, but when she left here what would stay? What would remain relevant? She couldn’t say for certain. She couldn’t say she would remember Daji as the one who taught her to keep her balance or even the delicious food she ate here. Every detail had to be remembered, and for that, most things got forgotten. That was the way her mind worked. Before Daji could make comment, the waiter was back, and as expected the table was hardly big enough for Shin's appetizer. His eggs would be with the next course. It wouldn't take long for her to get them there. 298/1432 |

She seemed to disagree with him, taking almost... a sad look when she mentioned that he owed her nothing. He tilted his head a little and arched an eyebrow at her for a moment, trying to wrap his head around what she had said before and what she was saying now. He had always thought there was something special about her, but he... he could never put his finger on it. Something... almost like her face and free-spiritedness was just a distraction for what her true abilities were but... No, that was just conjecture at this point. He couldn't be certain what her full talents were--that was what the training was for, so they could give her the foundation needed to bring her talents to life. There was no telling where she would truly excel, and the Kitsune was eager to see her shine very brightly. She finished her statement, wondering how long she would remember any of this, as if the possibility existed that she might forget about this conversation altogether. He felt his face frown in response, but before he could speak up, the waiter brought out Shin's first course--and naturally, there was barely enough room on the table to fit it all. He blinked a few times at the display, wondering just how many times she would surprise him with her appetite before he got the joke--she was certainly ravenous! "You must burn a lot of energy..." he said with an exhasperated smirk on his face before he took another gulp of his tea. "But don't sell yourself short. Even if you doubt yourself, you have made my life better by being a part of it, Shin. Even if you forget everything else, the fact that you still call me shihou still makes me smile. That's good enough for me to call you friend," he said before giving hed the biggest smile he could, his ears wagging a little from the warmth he tried to convey. 331 / 1718 |

Shin grinned widely when he said she burned a lot of energy, having very obviously been told as much before. She didn't wait or be polite and quickly tested the foods hotness by leaning her nose over it. From there she cut and separated parts she knew were done cooking so the air would touch them better. Her focus was on that when Daji continued, misunderstanding her a bit. She wasn't trying to see herself short she was trying to sell herself big. He was looking at her in this small frame labeled friend and missing the much bigger picture. It would crash down on him eventually, or maybe it wouldn't. It wasn't her concern and she felt no more need to worry about. She was not saying she would forget today or this meal. She was wondering if she'd forget him all together. If she did, well, any thoughts of kindness or concern would have long left her. She didn't need them now either. It was fine as long as they were both smiling in the here and now. "You should eat more," she counters instead. "Less then five larger meals a day isn't good for you." She made sure to mimic the tone he used when he told her to drink more. It was impossible to tell if she was mocking him or chose the tone because it was a true fact for her digestive system and she was lumping him in with her. Wither way, she wasn't a mother hen like Daji and instead of pushing the matter took another sip of tea before digging in. It did not take long for some plates to clear, nor for the waiter to return ready to remove them and set Daji's eggs in front of him. More food for Shin was on the way, and the scent of today's breakfast would carry to Daji before the waiter came back. It was fish. Some kind of gloriously cooked fish. |

It was hard to tell what her response was, considering her fascination with food. At this point, he had half-expected her attention to be diverted to something more interesting to her sight, especially if it was something she could eat and fill her seemingly infinite appetite. He couldn't help but chuckle a little bit at the sight, seeing her inspect the food carefully with her nose to pick out the parts that were ready--he could smell them too, and some of it did smell very good... But he didn't let himself be distracted. Instead, he focused on his tea and, eventually, his eggs when they were brought out, prefering to enjoy a more reserved portion at a slower pace than Shinaki was enjoying hers. He didnt fault her for practically diving right in--some people enjoyed food in different ways, so there was no reason to judge her--she probably wouldn't have paid attention anyway. Regardless, she spoke up after a few moments about how he should eat more, causing a bit of a sheepish look on his face when she mentioned just how much... he chuckled a little bit, especially when she made a face and tone to mimic the one he had given her about drinking water. And then his chuckle turned into full laughter, enjoying the reversal a little. It was hard for him to imagine eating so much, but he gave her a nod of his head all the same. At that point, a fascinating smell wafted into the hall--and it smelled delicious, obviously comprising of fish, his favorite. Well, maybe he could follow her advice and enjoy a bit more, so he asked the waiter to try some of the fish, if the chef wasn't too busy, before he looked back to Shin. "Well... I guess I should just make it hard to forget me, huh? I'll do my best." 2k+ |

Shin's eyes closed into an easy smile at his words, quickly changing as she stuffed her mouth with food. If he caught it he would recognize it was not as bright as her normal ones. It wouldn't right to say it was fake. She was happy he thought so much of her, that he wasn't offended when she said she might forget him. She was happy to be here and now with good company and food. It was only a little dimmer because she knew Daji's good intentions would only go to waste. Shin had only found one thing in her new life that she could not forget and that was because it was always with her. She brushed her foot against her ankle under the table, gingerly before placing it back flat on the floor. She only had one tie in this life and it was suffocating. She knew better than to think she'd simply tied herself to the wrong thing. She knew one thing she had carried over from her old self and perhaps exactly why nothing else did. She did not want anything that would tie her up so it had to have quite the reward to wrap its chain around her ankle. A relationship did not even come close to reaching it. She would forget, but maybe sometimes she would remember, in quiet moments when she was bored or antsy. Memories by themselves could be precious things and even she could enjoy them if they floated about untethered. A memory of just his earnest face, his scent or warmth, or of how she felt with him with. Nothing more. "I think he's better than Juch," she says pointing her fork towards the kitchen with another cheeky grin. 2056 |
