Juturna was back, but this time there was no scent of Yan Cass. She appeared in her normal spot the day before though this time a bit more masked. The clearing was chosen and perhaps crafted by Yan to make landing as inconspicuous as possible. She was still spotted by Juch’s careful eyes but it made sense why Daji would not have immediately noticed her renewed presence. She was a spy! An enemy starcraft! Why then had she so quickly made friends with Sondere? Well, whatever reason she was there she showed a little more caution this time around, which was perhaps tied to the lacking presence of her former captain. While Juturna was confident in her abilities at just about everything, her body was not designed for battle. Stealth, speed, and inner luxuries of course, but she hardly had the firepower to protect herself if she was under direct threat from an overbearing force. That was what Mister Cass was for. Now that she had disowned him she was just a tad bit paranoid, which was probably the reason she had returned to Grace. Like a stubborn child unwilling to admit she could go off on her own, she landed in the haunt she was most comfortable in. Of course, Jutters had a way of making herself more than comfortable anywhere she went. It wasn’t Yan’s scent that would draw Daji to her, or even a sense of her presence affecting the woods, but rather the scent of his wayward student who had not shown up to their normal meeting for training. The scent was considerably old, from the night before, but it was the only trail of her and it would take him on the very familiar path only to stop dead at Juturna’s closed hull. The ship sat in her normal glory, solar panels out as if basking in Grace’s ki sun in all her nonchalance. As always, when he came close enough she dropped her ramp, and with it came the snake’s scent and ki that had been otherwise hidden aboard the vessel, a security check similar to that in the Dancing Spider. Her insides had changed yet again, and this was the most dramatic yet. The once large living room had been carved out creating multiple places to sit, eat and study. The once living room had turned almost into a whole house and one had to wonder where the hell Yan had the time, or skill, since it wasn’t likely he would let anyone else fiddle with Juturna’s inners so easily. The most forefront area wasn’t far from the ramp, down a few stairs into a cozied square of couches around a fire pit, it’s top housing the first screens one would take notice to on entering. This was where Shin was, sprawled out, bottles of multiple liquors piled up as well as a plenty of snack foods, with Jutter’s tiny spiders cleaning up as they went. The girl was fixated on the screen to it’s side which was playing a TV show of some sort. It was hard to see from just entering, but the voices were very enthusiastically talking about...food. Of course, it was food. She was so enthralled she didn’t seem to even notice his entry or the noise from the lowered ramp. DAJI ヾ(๑╹◡╹)ノ"... was Juturna’s simple response, not seeming to realize explanations were in order. There was still no trace of Yan. Any scent he left behind was almost as old as the last time Daji had seen him. In a way he was everywhere, in the warm colors, furniture, plant life, and overall design, but at the same time it was as if that was what he left behind. 624 |

(Partner Training, Combat Rune) Daji had gotten a little impatient waiting for his student. At first, he just figured she might have overslept when it came to returning to their usual place for the morning training. Unfortunately, an hour or two passed and it was clear that she might have been preoccupied by something else. He wasn't sure what it might have been--maybe she had gotten flakey about something, or maybe she had an appointment with someone else...? She did not mention anything about it yesterday that he could remember, and while he was tempted to simply conduct training on his own, he always found himself concerned for the Snake whenever she did things like this. She was always given to wanderlust, just like himself, so it was not beyond reason that she might have found something, somewhere, and decided to pursue it. Or maybe she had gotten an assignment from Mister Juch... which would not have been the Kitsune's business, but he tended to have a habit of poking his nose into business that wasn't his anyway... Well, now that he was concerned for Shin's safety, he wouldn't be able to properly concentrate on his own training, and if nothing else, he could see if this new quandry would provide some training of its own. He remembered Shinaki's scent well, but tracking down the strongest traces of it would be difficult--she always wondered here and there, seemingly at random, so her paths always criss-crossed a lot, swerved a lot, or just had seemingly no rhyme or reason to it. Still, when he pursued her scent back in Querenci, he noticed the traces of her smell were fairly older--at least half a day, it seemed, and finding the freshest scent had been a bit of a chore for a moment until he picked one up leading out of the city and towards the forest--of course. He should have started there, considering, but now that he had picked up on the strongest one he could find, he pursued it. Oddly enough, rather than criss-cross or weave through trees, it seemed to stick relatively close to the fairly-trodden path through the woods to the east of the city. However, halfway in, the deviation occurred--but it wasn't any random deviation, it was a familiar one. He could faintly make out the boots Yan usually wore from the path, as well as the odd smell of burnt spaceship fuel. All the scents mixed together with nature over time, so faint one might have missed it, but the Fox knew the path well--it was the path towards Juturna, Yan's space whale. The Fox shook his head for a moment as he followed the path, finding Shin's scent getting fairly stronger, not weaker, until he came upon Juturna herself. The Kitsune was not expecting the Whale to be where she was--though without Yan, she seemed to come and go where she pleased, but for some reason, she did not like parking in the space port. The creatures seemed to chirp and tweet around the massive ship, however, indicating that Juturna had been here long enough for the wildlife to at least get used to her, if they hadn't learned to ignore her by now. He figured Juturna would like the wildlife around her--well, unless they soiled her exterior at all, since she seemed so obsessed with being clean... Regardless, Daji strolled up towards where the ramp usually was, unsurprised that it unfolded in front of him as he approached. It brought a smile to his face all the same, since it meant Juturna was feeling sociable and welcoming--or maybe she was lonely? It was hard to tell--and he ascended up the ramp into the living room-- Wait, who re-arranged everything? Certainly it wasn't Yan--he had a very specific preference when it came to his ship, and while he changed things up seemingly at random as well, it was never so drastic. It looked like someone wanted to make a full house out of Juturna, which was odd since she wasn't a house, she was a whale, but Daji never owned a ship, so he wouldn't know how easy someone like Juturna was when it came to rearranging her intestines. The smell of Yan had almost completely faded, lingering more so in the colors and architecture, rather than through smell, but what did fill his nose was-- The Fox's ears flattened on his head as he recoiled a little at the smell. He could detect Shin very strongerly in the ship, but the scent of alcohol, food, and body odor were discernable in it as well. He snorted out of his nose to get the smell out for a moment before he entered the ship properly, waving towards the first screen that welcomed him. With a big smile he patted the first screen he could reach--he never did find out if Juturna liked being touched or not--before he turned towards the noise and saw... Of course she was watching a show about food. The way she sat there, she seemed absolutely mesmerized by what was on it, and the bottles of liquor and snacks she seemed to be enjoying piled up around her like some kind of mecca of her immediate delights. He shook his head in disappointment (albeit, it was only just a teeny tiny bit), but he smiled all the same as he stared down at Shin's enthralled form before looking towards the nearest screen for Juturna again. He pointed a finger upward while putting another finger in front of it, spinning it around like a clock before pointing towads Shin, effectively asking Juturna how long Shin had been here. Once he got an answer--if anything--from Jutters, he turned towards Shin once again. "A--ahem!" He cleared his throat, easing his hands into the opposing sleeves of his kimono in a resting position. Part of him really wanted to know why Shin was in Yan's space whale, why Jutters had welcomed a stranger aboard, and most of all, why she had missed their training for the day. He tried to look as judgemental as he possibly could--what was the face that Hayami gave him when he had knocked something over... yes, that!--but in the end, he looked more amused than irritated. "Shinaki--what are you doing here?" WC: 1049 |

Daji was quite silly if he didn’t think Juturna was completely complicent in this whole ordeal. When he made a gesture of a clock, rather than replying an actual time he got an enthusiastic WE’RE BINGE WATCHING ANIME!... MISTER CASS WOULD NEVER WATCH WITH ME!... Yes, whether it was ever mentioned before to Daji specifically, the space whale had a certain love for cartoons. Almost always when asked what the ship was doing in her free time Yan’s reply was watching TV of some sort. It didn’t take her much time to absorb any data, but she liked watching cartoons and taking in each frame and how they made the picture move. To Yan’s annoyance she would often replay the same ten seconds over and over. She had learned a little from that mistake with Shin, but over all, the monkey did not watch TV. When he had free time he read, and he kept up on the news through articles, research and clips of video. His attention span was just not good for TV, despite his vast knowledge of pop culture. So he did not watch anime with Juturna. The best he could do was let her play it in the background while he worked but she didn’t offer any commentary. She liked animation, but the odd stories that filled them were also fascinating and having a friend along for that ride was quite appealing. “He got so fat!!” Shin let out with wide eyes and a very amused grin, suppressing a snort. The show had been very seriously talking about beef stew and some kind of competition. The main character was trying to perfect a recipe while a younger boy taste tested...resulting in a comedic show of the boy becoming overly bloated and fat from eating them all. It was then that Shin caught Daji in the corner of her eye just before he coughed. ”Shishou, I found a cartoon watching ship!” she says with joy and admiration, completely missing his stern attitude to the whole thing, and quickly turning her attention back to the screen which now showed a girl enjoying some kind of romance comic. ERINA HAS THE GOD’S TONGUE… BUT SHE DOESN’T LIKE THE MAIN CHARACTER BECAUSE HE’S A COMMONER… Flashed on the screen facing Daji as well as Shin’s so she could read and watch. ”But he’s a really good cook!” the snake adds with equal enthusiasm. While there was no answer to his question, they were already on season two. 418/1042 |

Neither Juturna's answer nor Shin's answer--when she finally realized her Shishou was present--had exactly been what he had been expecting or looking for. Judging by all the food and liquor in the room, Shin could have been in here with Juturna for as little as a few minutes to several hours. Judging by the age of her scent from outside--he really did not want to get into how potent her scent was at this exact moment--she had probably encountered the ship yesterday evening or last night, so it probably wasn't beyond reason to assume they had spent a good chunk of the night (if not the entire night) watching cartoons on the television. Jutters had called it anime, a word he found familiar. Hayami had shown him a few things about anime as well, but all he had wanted to do at the time was go out exploring the woods and swimming in rivers. He still felt that spirit of adventure in his chest to this day, but he had priorities now that he wanted to satisfy before he could go off and satisfy his own wanderlust. However, Shin seemed to be so fascinated with things as they were, especially since it seemed Juturna managed to make a friend... watching television. One of Daji's ears drooped to the side at the whole scene, as if it defied all reason. He never knew Yan to watch such things, though he always seemed to make references to things only he seemed to know about... Daji shook his head before he was reminded of what Jutters said, about how Yan would never watch these things with her, so he suddenly found himself at a crossroads--he probably could let Shin and Jutters enjoy themselves today, but at the same time... well, Shin herself had said she wanted the strength to be truly free, and he felt obligated to at least remind her of that desire. He cleared his throat again before crossing his arms in front of his chest again, a much more sympathetic look on his face this time. "You missed today's training..." he started with as he looked towards Shinaki. "I'll bet Jutters has these on recording--why not enjoy these shows after your daily training? I don't think you'll get very strong if you sit around all day..." he said, not wanting to assume too much of his student--she was a very lively and spirited woman, after all, and while she took to training quite slowly, she was nevertheless quite passionate. He didn't want to intrude on some relaxation time, but at the same time... well, he would see what she had to say first before moving on. WC: 448 / 1497 |

Daji ignored their comments to get straight into why he was here. There was a flash on Juturna’s screen but it didn’t last long enough to register on a nonsynthetic brain. Shin merely blinked, looking from the screen back to Daji before back to the screen again, tapping her wrist for the time. This time Juturna reluctantly offered it and Shin’s mouth turned into a small ‘o’ shape. She scratched her head, seeming to be unsure which course of action to take next and Juturna paused the show for her, also reluctantly. It was then another realization struck the snake. ”Wait, you know each other?” she asks the pair, her head tilting. It was quite strange wasn’t it? Daji had mosied right on into the ship, which wasn’t completely strange considering so had she, but the kitsune, while calling the ship by a fond nickname, hadn’t even said a word to her. It seemed quite rude. Were they friends? Her time with Juturna had not been spent merely watching anime and she had learned quite a few things about the ship in their time together however short in comparison to Daji’s it was. HE WAS MY FORMER CAPTAIN’S WARD… Was Juturna’s response to her and the contempt could be felt in the ship’s words despite the lack of tone as she addressed him as such instead of as her friend. Juturna was here, alone, and Daji had not even asked why. He hadn’t questioned the absence of Yan or why she would have come back to Grace. As far as Daji knew, she never went anywhere without Yan, going as far as to say he took her places instead of vice versa, complaining when he did not take time out of his life to complete promises of going here and there. Even the last time Daji had seen her when she excitedly told him about Pefu, she explained that Yan had let her. Despite their back and forth banter, almost like a married couple, there was no denying the bond Juturna had with her Mister Cass, as well as the dependency she had on him. Despite her obvious sentience, she was his ship, and she never denied that. Now he was her former captain and she was speaking of him in the past tense. Daji also ignored her excitement at having a new friend and moved straight to stealing her. If he was her friend he would have taken her more into consideration instead of just treating her like a...ship. He was not doing well today. 427/1469 |

It took a little while for the two to break from their entertainment in order to address the issue--but eventually, the pair were able to pause their show, and when Jutters showed the time for Shin, Daji could not help but smile at her expression, but it quickly was replaced with a surprised look when Shin mentioned that he and Jutters knew one another. He opened his mouth to explain it when Jutters flashed a message on the screen--though he did not think too much of the specific working, at least not right away. He nodded towards Shin in confirmation. "It's a bit of a long story, but yes, Yan Cass took me in, along with Hayami, before bringing us to Grace. If it was not for him and Jutters... well, I don't think I would be here now. Jutters is very dear to me--she helped me learn to read and write, and Yan taught me many things. They're... well, remember when I said I don't remember having a family? Well--Jutters and Yan and Hayami are my family now. "Speaking of..." he started to say, looking towards Jutters' screen and smiled at her. "It's good to see you two getting along. What have you been doing, Jutters--I hope Yan is well. I know he... I'm sure he has a good reason for leaving you behind. I don't smell him in the air..." He wasn't really able to continue on, not without knowing where Yan was. He knew the trinket around his neck kept Yan as close as possible--but sometimes just talking would have been nice. It wasn't until then that he realized Jutters was probably lonely too... and he hadn't even known to visit her, so it made sense for Jutters to find a friend... "Well, let's worry about training later," he said, looking towards Shin with a smile and a nod. "You two are enjoying yourselves--and I do need to take care of the land before the first frost..." he said, concern on his face when he thought about the things he still needed to do. He really let time slip by huh...? He looked back towards Jutters and patted the screen with one hand. He still wasn't sure if the Whale even liked being touched or not... "It's good to see you, Jutters. Maybe next time, you should honk a horn when you land so I know you're here?" he asked. He wasn't sure if she even has a horn though... 418 / 1915 |

Shin's expression didn't change when Daji began to explain. There was no sign of real recognition at Yan's name. Daji had spoke about Yan a few times but it was always in passing. Dots were clicking together with his words but her normal fascination at any new story was somewhat lacking. Perhaps it was the delicate matter of family, or maybe it was just fatigue. She smiled gently, happy for him, but there wasn't the expected spark of interest on Juturna's wayward captain. Jutters' screen filled with three dots midway through Daji's speech. One dot appeared, then the next, then last and they vanished again in a cycle as if she were showing a load screen. For Juturna however, it was more a sign of her active silence. Sometimes in conversations she faded out and let the non-synthetics have their fun, chiming in at key moments like Yan had taught her, but otherwise appearing vaguely inattentive. Those three dots were the equivalent of keeping eye contact with the speaker, and when he stopped to call Juturna family the dots stopped moving. AS LONG AS I'M THE FATHER... Was Juturna's response before her typical texted smilie appeared, her mood over turned quite easily. Shin giggled of course. The light joking tone was quickly overridden by the next line typed with no hint at jest. I HOPE HE'S DEAD... She said it in reply to Daji hoping Yan was well, and pinged light away from the screen they were looking at as if the signify she was turning her back on that conversation. Shin's face softened again, though it was still a little amused she seemed well versed in this part of the conversation. Like a teenaged girl light returned again as she continued. A CHAOS COUNCIL MEMBER AND COMMANDER OF THE DAMASKIAN SHADOWGUARD HAS NO NEED OF A CIVILIAN VESSEL... She explains, the letters tocking off a little louder as they typed across the screen. "A moron has no need of a civilian vessel~!" Shin chirps in, leaning back. This was probably the pattern of the night for them. Juturna complaining about Yan and Shin backing her up with jabs at a man she didn't know. The Snake did offer Daji a slightly mischievous smile after however, realizing now that she was calling his...mother? a moron and that he might want to defend him. Probably not the best crowd to do so. 402/1871 |

While Shin had her mischievous look and Jutters' mood seemed to improve a little, Daji's visage fell a little into ome of concern. Oddly enough, his opinion of Yan was at least a little higher than Jutters or Shin possessed, but if Yan had practically abandoned the Whale and if Shin was just supporting a friend, then... well, he couldn't exactly fault them for it. He shook his head before looking back towards Jutters' screen. "I'm sure he had his reasons, Jutters... besides, it all seemed to work out--you already made a new friend, right? And maybe Shin could use a ship when she decides to leave Grace," he mentioned, forcing a smile on his face to break the tension. It was true, though, wasn't it? He had noticed Shin's fits of wanderlust a long time ago, as it seemed to resonate with his own desire for new things and adventure--she was bound to leave at some point, probably to explore the universe and get into no shortage of trouble--denying her that priviledge would probably just make het pursue it even more. "I should get back to work--its good to see you Jutters. If you need anything, just honk and I'll come to help! And Shin--I'll see you tomorrow for training, okay? Don't forget this time, hahaha," he chuckled, nodding to his student warmly before gesturimg to the television so that Jutters knew to start the show again. 240 / 2k+ |
