Note: Forum/Gem Spar, I'm using Baba's Crystal Ball

-------------

The air was still in the Forest of Illusion. Shadowy figures seemed to dance through the thickets of branchs between the trees, but Trumpet paid them no mind. The forest was always looking to play tricks on unwitting passer-thrus. He liked to meditate amongst the dark trees. When he was really focused, he could hear the whispers between the trees. The forest was alive, but to really understand that one had to spend hours attuning their senses to it's telepathic speech patterns.

Alas, he could not still his mind well enough to meld with the woods. Laying back between one particularly large tree's roots, he pulled a cloth covered sphere out of his back and set it on his lap. As he folded back the flaps of the cloth, he revealed a crystalline orb. A darkness swirled within, just under the clear surface. The orb seemed to hummed, perhaps somehow connected with the forest. Truthfully, he wasn't even sure how it worked, but he figured it possessed its own telepathic properties.

Wondering who he might meet today, Trumpet took a deep breath and placed his hands on the ball. The coldness of it's surface seemed to race through his hands and up his arms towards his brain and before he could have stopped it, he found his consciousness soaring through primordial soup, wondering not only about his opponent, but where the fighters would find themselves during the battle.

As soon as the world around him had vanished, another had taken its place. It seemed almost that he was still standing within the forest, though this one was significantly darker and colder. Rain dripped through the dense foilage overhead and thunderclouds boomed overhead, shaking the leaves of the trees. The air was crisp and fresh, probably because of the storm. Seeing no one else in his vicinity, the namekian moved between the thick tree trunks until he'd found a clearing. No treetops stretched across the clearing to stop the torrential downpour, but he had a feeling he would meet his adversary there so he hung around at the edge of the ring of trees to wait.

The God of Destruction had found that he was on Grace for far longer than he had planned on being here. It was just supposed to be a place to go and relax for a little bit before he went back to the job, but as things turned out stuff started to happen. Asha had shown up, they had gone shopping, they had run into people and they had found themselves on a massive adventure with Whis joining them along the way. The deity was never going to be use to this sort of thing even after his eons of life. It never seemed that things would go according to plan and he often found himself not in control.

He was a destroyer and he knew he should have been, but he also had mortal instincts. He wasn’t born into the divine. He didn’t come from the Tree of the Kai’s. Lord Beerus had earned his title and claimed his place as a deity. It was powerful, but it didn’t stop him from still being mortal with is urges and other tendencies.

All of that was a story for another day and time though. Right now he had taken a moment to rest allowing his mind to drift into the Astral Realm as it did when he was just napping and not in a full on slumber. He wasn’t really allowed to do that right now anyways according to Master Zeno. With his mind drifting away he quickly found himself asleep and his mental representation of himself standing in a white void. It seemed to be loading for a moment, maybe he was experiencing mental lag, but he took a little longer than normal. First he could see the forest forming in the distance, but when it was settled the God of Destruction found himself suddenly standing in the middle of a clearing amidst a storm.

He glanced around trying to see if anyone else was around to discuss things with, he looked to the tree line, his senses picking up someone even if he couldn’t seem them, ”I guess I am not alone. It is safe to come out and talk if you so desire.” The destroyer stood calmly with his arms folded behind his back waiting to see who was waiting for him in the forest.

Trumpet almost didn't realize that his company had arrived. At first he thought it was just the shadows playing tricks on him as the lightning flashed regularly overhead. When the dark figure spoke, he perked up. It was time to get to business. "Is anything ever really safe?" the namekian responded, stepping out into the clearing.

Something about the person's presence definitely didn't make him feel safe. He'd met several warriors through his crystal ball's telepathic link, all of them beings of impressive power far superior to his own. Nothing he'd encountered could compare to the fighter standing before him. The namekian couldn't actually sense the exact range of his foe's powerlevel, but the very fibers of the astral dimension seemed to bend and distort around the figure.

I didn't realize power like this could even exist... What is he?

The sense of awe flooding him was so strong that even fear had no room to rear its ugly head. Trumpet barely managed to keep his mouth closed, nearly allowing it to drop open in amazement. Without knowing any better, he could only imagine that he was dealing with an actual god. Finally, somehow, the namekian collected himself. "So... should we do this, or not? It's a beautiful day for a spar," he called, motioning to the leaky sky.

It didn’t take long after he spoke up that a voice came from the direction he felt the energy from. He barely shifted turning in that direction as the Namekian emerged. His words seemed to show a hint of uncertainty. He didn’t seem afraid of Lord Beerus as the God of Destruction though, it felt like it might have been just a general cautious nature. It wasn’t unlikely in this world with the hostility that mortals would be cautious. You never knew what you were dealing with. He asked a simple question for sure.

Lord Beerus got a slight grin on his face, ”Well, I don’t recall ever destroying someone in this realm. At least I haven’t destroyed someone who wasn’t trying to manipulate me.” He started to think back to a number of times where people had messed with him and the professor. It was hard to tell exactly how many things he had destroyed or even what was real or what wasn’t real. He never really had much understanding of that. It was a good thing the doctor was as smart as he was. A destroyer god wasn’t really known for being smart at least outside of combat.

The Namekian got slightly closer as he seemed to grow more and more at least interested in what was going on here. He eventually pointed to the sky requesting a spar. In the mortal realm this would be considered a great insult to challenge the God of Destruction to a spar without even introducing one’s self, but the Astral Realm was much different. People used this place for that purpose often. He sighed slightly though as he heard that slowly lifting off the ground as if standing was almost more draining to him in some strange way.

”I don’t see why a little stretching of the muscles would hurt,” He motioned almost welcoming the first attack from his opponent as the rain leaked around him, ”How intense do you want this to be?” The destroyer wasn’t really sure just yet how hard he should go or what this Namekian had to offer. He was interested in seeing though.

"How intense do you want this to be?"

The question floored Trumpet. He was relatively confident in his own abilities most of the time, but never enough to so blatantly show it off. He got the feeling that he was about to face off with someone that may not even know of the word defeat. That also might mean that he didn't know how to fully appreciate victory, and that was something the namekian definitely understood. Defeat came far too often for him in the astral realm, but he could admit that through the losses he had grown far more than through any victory he'd won in the physical world.

I'm sure he would adjust to my own strength once he sees where I stand myself... Actions louder than words, right?

Trumpet replied with a shrug of his shoulders. "Up to you, I'll be giving it my all though," he said. With that, he nearly launched into the opening salvo before realizing he'd nearly made an incredible mistake. One of his many childhood teachers had taught him everything he knew about battle etique, and still he nearly failed to introduce himself to his opponent whom, in his own right, had been quite pleasant himself, despite all the talk of destruction and whatnot. "Forgive me, I forget myself. My name is Trumpet, of Namek. If you'll be so kind... who do I have the pleasure of dueling today?"

Trumpet wanted to know the name of his opponent so that he could ask Guru later about the being. He could still feel the subtle ripples in the astral fabric of the telepathic realm the odd pair found themselves in. A being of immense power indeed.

Lord Beerus waited as the boy gathered himself. He wasn’t sure if the Namekian was simply trying to figure out what he was dealing with or trying to figure out how to answer the question the destroyer had asked of him. He only took a little longer to declare that he was going to go all out. That was going to make things at least somewhat interesting, or at least the deity hoped that would be the case.

It looked as if they were about to fight at that point as the green man seemed ready to pounce until he suddenly stopped himself in what felt like a mere instant before he was going to attack. This caused Lord Beerus to tilt his head slightly. He was confused as he hadn’t done anything yet to cause any kind of fear or problems for his opposition and yet it seemed for a moment like that was the case. It was only when he introduced himself that he realized what the delay was for. This was a classic trait of Namekians and those trained under the Grand Elder, they always tended to have a high level of respect no matter the situation. They had been trained to be mentally strong almost all the time.

Lord Beerus nodded his head respectfully hearing the introduction. A slight grin came to his face as he could sense a bit of hesitation at the question that was given back to him. He wouldn’t have a problem at all introducing himself, ”I am Lord Beerus and I am the God of Destruction for this Universe.” It was all he was going to say at that point. It was going to certainly be interesting to see how the Namekian would react to such information, but if he was really here to fight it didn’t seem likely to change his mind. The destroyer was almost hoping that was the case; he certainly could use a little excitement.

A God, huh? I wonder if that's true...

Trumpet thought back to a time that a visitor to Namek, a saiyan if he remember correctly, had told him about gods.

Quote:

"Listen to me, boy," he'd said as he worked on his armor. Trumpet had been following him around for days in awe. As a child he was amazed by the warrior, who trained with even the strongest namekians with such ferocity that Trumpet thought he may be the strongest fighter in the universe. "You think I'm strong, don't you? Well let me tell you, I'm nothing. There are fighters out there that could destroy this planet with their pinky finger."

Trumpet listened, wide-eyed.

"Then, there are people out there that are actual Gods, son. They could destroy everything in the galaxy with even less effort than that. You can do your best, handle your piece of business in this life, but know that somewhere out there exist incredible beings the like of which few people have ever even seen."

Though he'd long discovered that the saiyan had not been nearly the elite fighter he'd once believed, he always kept those words close to him. Maybe now, he thought, he was actually meeting one of those Gods. Still, he was in no more danger than if he were in a dream and he had never been one to back down from a fight. "Well then 'Lord Beerus', it's a pleasure to meet you."

With the introductions done, the namekian flashed forward, rain pelting his face. As he neared the self-proclaimed God, he launched into the air, soaring overhead. Like loaded spring, he landed on his hands, elbows bent, and quickly launched himself back at Beerus with his legs aimed at the creature's lower back.

The simple fact that Lord Beerus had been so open about his title and name was not that unusual. Part of his power came from people believing that he had it. It went back to the battle for his title years ago and was only magnified more and more now as stories spread. Like normal the word of mouth could cause a sandstorm to actually overcome areas as they expanded on legends and glorified them more and more. They would spread like wildfires, catching everything in their path and convincing them.

The destroyer had experienced this first when he bluffed his way to his title so many eons ago, but the entire process seemed to be happening once again. It was why he felt confident sharing the information about himself with any that he came across. This Namekian was no different. He knew that Whis had spoken with Guru so the people that had created the Dragonballs knew of his being awake and this would only cause the legend to spread more. The only thing was that he was going to have to make a show of this. His opponent had already declared he wasn’t going to hold back in this sparring match.

With Lord Beerus already floating from when the challenge was accepted it was interesting to see that the Namekian had chosen to simply jump over him landing on the ground before launching himself like a coiled up spring at the destroyer. He looked to drive both of his feet into the back of the deity. Lord Beerus had only turned his head to see what his opponent was doing, but when he launched himself the God of Destruction felt it would be appropriate to showcase a hint of his speed. A sudden flare of purple energy erupted as his opponent coiled up allowing him to burst to the side in the air watching Trumpet fly on past him.

With Lord Beerus floating in the air a sudden flare of power erupted around him causing even the Astral Realm to quake in terror. He motioned his arm almost daring his opponent to come at him once more. He really doubted if that was truly all he had. He almost knew that his opponent wasn’t going full out like he said he was.

There was a brief moment as Trumpet soared unintentionally past his target that the pair locked eyes, and at least for Trumpet the moment seemed to last much longer. Lord Beerus's speed was absolutely incredible - he hadn't even seen his opponent move. He saw the god give him the universal sign for 'come at me bro'. With a grin, the namekian landed sideways on a thick tree trunk and used it to launch himself back towards Beerus. The force of the push off broke the mighty tree in half, causing the heavy top side to crash down among the other trees. Trumpet wasn't sure if the vibrations he felt in the air were a result of the impact, or of Beerus flexing his aura.

The namekian had his arm drawn back for a haymaker, but as he neared enough to throw the punch he vanished from view, reappearing behind Beerus with a round-house to the side of the head already in motion. Maybe his opponent was fast, but even he couldn't content with instantaneous movement... or could he? Once again, Trumpet had the thought that he was dealing with something far beyond anything he had encountered already. Even Cell and Vlad probably couldn't hold a candle to the mighty flame that was Beerus. If anything though, the knowledge that something like the Destroyer existed out there among the cosmos just motivated him further. Lately he'd made all kinds of striking revelations, and perhaps not for nothing because his training has sped up exponentially in recent months.

Trumpet was quick to oblige as the God of Destruction seemed to challenge him to bring on more of an attack. Lord Beerus was always extremely confident in combat, even when he was fighting those that might pose a threat to him. On Quasar even with the power of the Cosmic Empire he never lacked in a feeling that he couldn’t be dealt with. He didn’t mean it as an insult to anyone; it was just part of being a deity. If he was as smart as he believed himself to be he might have been able to solve most of his problems before they became problems. But in the end he wasn’t and so a confidence to handle them after they formed was the best guise he could make for his biggest short coming.

With the Namekian coming at him with full speed, it was clear that he was either telegraphing his attack or planning some kind of diversion. Most skilled warriors wouldn’t show their hand so far away unless they had something else in mind. It caused even the destroyer to take a moment to gather his mind as he tried to figure out what was coming. It was when Trumpet disappeared from sight that he realized more than likely what was going to happen next.

He unfolded his arms from behind his back, positioning them to the side as if his body was forming a cross shape and inviting the strike he felt and assumed was coming. It was when he felt the Namekian appear behind him that his energy flared once more. This time it wasn’t raw power that erupted. This time it was a burst of frozen energy blasting outwards looking to catch his opponent in that moment in a cube of ice that would hopefully stop the strike from hitting him.

Lord Beerus turned, almost heel to toe after the icy burst erupted to face the Namekian. He seemed more than happy to see what was going to happen next, ”You do have some nice moves. So far I have to say you are stronger than most Namekians that I have met.” The statement was true, but it wasn’t a massive compliment either. Lord Beerus didn’t know many Namekians, but so far he had liked what he was seeing from this one. Maybe the race could produce better warriors than he had thought before.

Just when Trumpet was sure that he'd succeed in landing a single hit on his other-worldly foe, an expected wave of freezing cold swept outwards from Beerus. The wave washed over his body, freezing him still somehow in midair. The deity turned around and spoke to him, the namekian's foot still floating inches from the side of his head. Trumpet took the compliment, but had a feeling it wasn't as flattering as it might sound. If he was one of the strongest of his race, and was still being man-handled as if he were a child's doll, then what did that say for his people? Actually, as he thought about it, the off-handed comment kind of angered him, goading him into replying uncharacteristically impolitely.

"And you're the ugliest God of Destruction I've ever seen," he responded. As if on cue, the icy grasp that captivated him let loose its hold. Immediately Trumpet dropped to the ground and flipped backwards, landing gracefully a short distance away. Rain still poured from the sky, turning the ground around his feet into a muddy pulp. The namekian breathed deeply. Even at his quickest, the God of Destruction had no problem keeping up with his movements. If his speed wasn't the answer, he'd have to resort to some kind of trickery. Fortunately, he'd developed just such an attack. Watching his opponent's movements carefully, he raised his hand to his mouth, forming a circle with his thumb and index fingers. With a gentle blow, Trumpet released a stream of green ki that flowed through the ring and down towards his feet to form a soccer ball sized orb.

"Catch this!" he yelled, kicking his foot forward and propelling the ball towards Beerus. It rolled cruised along the ground, tearing up the grass and flinging mud in every direction. Just before reaching its target, it seemed to jump into the air towards the god's chest, but instead of hitting him head-on it flattened out and opened up like a big blanket, looking to envelope Lord Beerus and restrain him. Trumpet smiled, this was one of his more crafty techniques. Even if it didn't work, he still had a few other tricks in his bag, but this was definitely his ace in the hole.

Why did they some think it was fun to throw around insults. Lord Beerus huffed as he floated away, feeling the ice was about to break away from the Namekian. He heard the insult and simply shook his head, ”Exactly how many God’s of Destruction have you met?” For some unknown reason, that question seemed to be more important to him than the insult that he had received from the Namekian warrior. Truly, he didn’t care about the insult and just was curious more than anything else.

It was as Trumpet landed that he seemed to be formulating a plan of attack. The destroyer didn’t move to counter, didn’t move to pounce, he simply hovered in the air calmly as he wanted to see and hear more from this man. He always had found the race that created the wishing orbs to be interesting. It was the fact that Trumpet seemed to be a little more hostile than most actually intrigued him slightly more than when he had met others from the planet Namek. He watched as the ball formed and then heard the challenge from the Namekian to catch this.

The God of Destruction would smile at the challenge. With the power he felt growing from the ball of energy he figured it would be appropriate to test something of his own. Yes he could have probably used his speed to avoid it, but that wouldn’t be fun and it would show he was willing to accept any challenge. He decided on something else altogether. This time he looked at the bracers on his arms, the power he had gotten from them after taking them from the Cosmic Emperor on Quasar was clear, but he had never actually tested them. It was probably a good thing to do that in the Astral Realm as opposed to in a real battle. He waited for the ball to arrive only to see at the last moment it expand to seemingly capture him inside of it. This certainly would be interesting. He held his forearms out, bracing to the sides as the ball closed in on him he waited for them to impact the Zekka Gauntlets and see exactly what the end result would be.

Trumpet could hardly contain his own excitement as his trap closed around the God of Destruction. In all honesty, he hadn't expected it to work. No doubt Beerus was more than fast enough to easily dodge his attacks, but for some reason he didn't. The namekian was just happy to have had some kind of success. Since he hadn't anticipated it, he had to quickly decide on how to capitalize on the capturing of his opponent, but in that moment nothing came to him. It didn't matter though, because to his astonishment the blanket encompassing Beerus was already disappearing, apparently being sucked into the god's bracers. "What the hell kind of armor is that?" he blurted out. Fortunately the god didn't seem intent on ever going on the offensive.

The namekian gave a low whistle and shook his head. Though he'd already known the whole thing was nothing more than a hopeless facade, he still kind of hoped to have had even a glimpse of success. Instead Beerus had played with his head, and stolen victory from the jaws of defeat. It was humbling, but so were all of Trumpet's other forays into the astral realm. As he thought about it, he could only shrug and smile. "Well, Lord Beerus, you're clearly the better fighter, and it's not even really a point of contention, is it? Oh well, I'll just have to use this meeting as further inspiration for my training," he said, chuckling. "I have to thank you, your highness. I hope we meet again soon, I'll be sure to bring a few more tricks on the next visit. Until then!"

Trumpet closed his eyes and refocused his mind, and when he opened them he had returned to the physical world. Coincidentally enough, a heavy rain had also started to fall there.
