Soul's eyes opened, blearily looking around and taking in the ceiling and room around him, briefly clouded in confusion and shock before clearing into one of startled embarrassment. Quietly he sat up and rubbed his temple while taking a glance at the clock, then breathed out a sigh and thought to himself; Four am...No matter what day I wake, I always think I'm back in my time, in my Universe. Yet, each day...each day disappointments me. How much I miss my friends, or the thought of having them--even if I can't remember them completely or at all in some cases. He stood, eyes blinking away the last of lingering sleep and began his stretches, doing his best to warm his muscles and wake himself up completely. Several minutes later, he moved--and appeared in the mess hall directly in front of one of the cabinets. The only cabinet that had anything edible in it, and a quick glance at the insides only ceased to increase his disappointment, for it was nearly empty. Only a power bar greeted his eyes, and with reckless abandon, Soul had already torn into it and finished it in seconds. The growl from his midsection signified that the power bar hardly made a dent in the black hole that was his stomach, and he grimaced, his body almost swaying before becoming ramrod straight again. "Spark, any new jobs pop up on the network? We need money, and most important, we need food. Without the first, I can't get the second, and no money means no repairs or leaving the planet." Spark's chippy voice sounded over the comms; "No, no new---oh wait! One just popped up from Capsule Corp, and it's promising a large amount of zeni! Do you wish to hear the details?" The Hybrid's response was to put on the holo-glasses located on the sole table in the middle of the messhall, the one and only table he usually ate at, and the one were he finished the last of the food the night prior. "As much as I love your voice, Spark, it's too early for optimism, so link it to the holo-lens please." "As you wish, Soul." With that, the Ancient AI grew silent, and within seconds, the information was scrolling across the the Blonde's eyes; Capsule Corp is searching for volunteers to help test a new invention, and C.C. recommends strong individuals to help test it, and we are promising a fine reward for your services! Potential side effects may be deadly to those too weak! It was the classic "to the point" job postings that Soul remembered in his lifetime, and he could only give a wry smile in response to that memory before standing and setting the glasses onto the table once more. "Spark, I'll be heading out for a bit, you know what to do in my absence. Set the alarms, engage the holographic cloaking, and let me know if anyone finds the ship--or tries to access it. Everything else I leave up to you, etcetera etcetera." With that, Soul vanished, barely hearing the AI's parting reply; "Safe Travels!" WC: 529 |
