Last Edit: Jun 2, 2020 1:00:56 GMT -5 by Jordan: completed quest
The tumulous Sarada was dripping with sweat as she thrust her fist into the robotic vestige before her, sending vibrations through it before it: dented, sizzled and finally exploded with the force behind the Saiyaness' assault. It seemed the heroin wasn't sleeping well on the planet and was attempting to get some energy out with a little extra training. The teenage girl couldn't help it, she was bored. Her master had been sleeping and fornicating with his life-mate since they had finished dealing with those creatures they had just dealt with. She had thought they would be leaving soon, but then, they seemed to be waiting on something- perhaps his friends to get their act together? Who knew at this point, she was just ready to continue on with her training and the next adventure!
"Anything happening today? Anything at all, I would help an estranged and distressed cat out of a tree at this point"...Sarada voiced as she made her way toward a console on the far end of the chamber. The music that was playing seemed to of drowned her voice out, that or the AI that ran the ship wasn't paying any attention to the third in command of the vessel. Her teenage, Saiyan, blood began to boil as if in rhythm with her tail as it unfurled itself from around herself. A flicker of energy began to surround her and her power level gave rise- enough for the system to register it had not paid attention and was in danger of having to remodel if the girl decided to blow up the room...again.
"madam, my apologies, I was under the impression you were talking to yourself as you destroyed more training bots" the AI replied attempting to sate the teenage female.
Sarada shrugged her shoulders and balled her fist as if she were going to scream and let out a devastating blast- but alas the young girl calmed down and her body followed suit. Her shoulders untensed and her tail furled itself back around her hourglass-like hips. The girl was dressed in light-grey sweat capris and a crimson sports bra that showed her voluptuously etched figure. The crew aboard hated it when she wore things so loosely around them, for she was only seventeen and incited potential problems with the males who hadn't seen their wives and mates in a long while. Natural desires could only be curved so much, and Jordan would have to remind his student to be a little more decent around those halls.
"hmmmph, well, I suppose I will let it slide. Anything going on that I could be occupied with while master is asleep"?
It took a moment before a hologram appeared of a prerecorded transmission the vessel intercepted while the crew slept. It had a classification of low-priority, due to the power readings the AI had scanned when it was haled. Sarada's jet-black eyes flickered with excitement as the hologram went on to demand the inhabitants of the planet flee before they arrived in less than twenty cycles. The being on the screen seemed a bit egocentric to the Saiyaness, she only chuckled as she cleared the hologram and ran through the halls to her own quarters...this would prove to be more exciting than destroying more training bots, and according to the power readings she could handle these pirates and world conquerors with relative ease.
"General Telan 20 cycles until we reach the planet of Dekalb. It seems to be made of fairy-tale creatures and shouldn't be of any concern. The few beings that live here, form what the drones collected, will be of minimal resistance" an android voiced as the ship hurled itself through space and toward the wayward planet.
"That is good news, get the landing party ready and land in the capitol. This should be a good payday, minerals galore are what we are after! A fine planet choice my caped friend", the general replied as he gave a look of approval to a cloaked being offset to his right. Android 45 continued to pilot the ship and type away at the keys before him. Meanwhile Golan turned about and headed down a corridor past the caped man, he looked at the hooded being and seemed to nonverbally cue his disgust or contempt of him. At that the hooded figure just smirked, pearly whites could be seen from the shadows that set upon his facial features.
"Of course General, I told you. I have been here once before and they worshipped me. Alas I am back to make you and I both rich scoundrel's of this universe! We will become known across the stars! Next stop will be the milky-way where we exact revenge on those damn earthlings! It is our fate to conquer all who would oppose us"!
The general laughed, the crew followed suit, and the ship continued it's course- unbeknownst to them, to a hormonal teenage Saiyan female. Who was bored and ready to take her boredom out on a motley crew of wanna-be-tough guys. Rays of light were now shooting out all across the horizon as our heroin was finishing getting ready, donning her Saiyan armor and strapping her weapons around her waist- she was ready.
Serenity and peace, that is what surrounded the rogue elite as he lay in bed with his life-mate in their quarters aboard their behemoth class cruiser- The Revenant. Jordan looked at Mikayla in the cuff of his arm, breathing as quiet as a baby fawn out on the meadow in some distant land. The half-breed was happy, things were turning back to normal with no serious encounter as of yet. Not like how it used to be, at least not yet. The warrior had been having dreams that seemed to be hinting at a looming darkness, an impending one as some might say. His life-mate seemed to think he was just paranoid due to the fact they hadn't come across old foes of the past who were constantly seeking to combat one another as though fate knew no other beings in the universe. It really hadn't effected Mikayla, but that was more due to her mate not opening up completely to her, it was his Saiyan side that kept his most inner thoughts to him and Andrasta. Of course, Andrasta had the luxury of being melded within his very soul- such was life in their little piece of the pie in which they resided.
Olive skin shifted beneath the Egyptian silk and under the fluffed pillow- her warmth moving from his naked body, to using more of the covers to warm her. The half-breed just grinned and slipped a portion of the sheet over his woman's shoulder. She was his everything. Nothing would keep them apart from one another again. It was then he could feel the emotional teen, whom he took under his wing as his disciple. Her emotions were typical of a girl her age. She was being hormonal once more and it all began when she had met his old friend. It was a crazy journey thus far with her and the entire crew. He had to admit that she had come of age where himself and his crew couldn't help but be lamented by her frame and not just her body- she was quite the beauty. The warrior just chuckled and looked back at his beauty. Little one, I think we should check on Sarada. She seems more distressed than she cares to admit. Perhaps we should go to the citadel and maybe look to see if any beings need our assistance? If all else she may enjoy...what do you two-legged creatures call it- shopping?
The ancient draconian chuckled within his mind and this made a tickling sensation run down the half-breed's own spine. Andrasta was more attune to teenage female problems than Jordan cared to admit to knowing himself. After all, she was a female- albeit another race. It seemed a lot of females, across all sentient beings, seemed to be of similar connotation and rife, they were all crazy to an extent and hormonal as all hell. The warrior learned to just keep quiet when these periods of situations came to fruition, and he knew Andrasta wouldn't let it go. She had a strange attachment to the young Saiyaness, he noted it and kept quiet about it. The warrior just moved from the middle of the bed toward the edge and put his feet on the floor as his hands ran through his golden locks.
Very well my friend, sounds like it is time for us to move out of the bed and our fleshly desires hmmm. No point in arguing with you- you already know I have had my fill of fun and leisure for the time being. I just want to enjoy it while it last. Something is on the horizon. Something dark, sinister, and with its focus on us. Just help me keep a watchful eye over my friends and family...
Our bod hero could hear Andrasta hum in agreement and the warrior gave a big yawn and stretch. His ribs spread and the pull of his abdomen reached up until he released the pose - standing and making his way toward the latrine. His mate just burrowed deeper into the bed, he could hear her snoring and his mental prowess lightly pressed against hers- she was dreaming a most obscure, yet cozy little dream. The warrior couldn't help but chuckle and continue to begin his morning routine, he would need to hurry- his protégé seemed excited, as did her power level. Something was amidst. Jordan sped it up...
Tiny little footsteps softly echoed throughout the corridor as the teenage heroin made her way through to the exit. It was only a few moments till Sarada would feel the blissful breeze of freedom throughout her hair! Yes, finally something to do on the planet. It had been a minute since she rung out her roots of the crazy and genetically defiled saibamen. They were fearless and terrible creatures the empire had created for training purposes, to die. Their only purpose to give amusement and to train the next generation in hand-to-hand combat and a life of extremes. It was something the girl knew all too well, and just dealing with them all of a sudden again made her immensely grateful for her new-found master and him taking her from those training grounds. Yes, she missed home- but she did not miss the way their culture seemed to accept the cold brutality of the foundations of their ancestors. Times were changing, and she was extremely happy that Jordan- Saiyan Elite and war hero- had chosen to take her on as his disciple and student.
"Young miss, do not forget your scouter. I have already set a trajectory of the vessel and where it is projected to land- outside the citadel. Projections calculate that they will arrive in nearly three hours. If you fly at half speed, you should be able to beat them there and do whatever it is you are seeking from this trip", the revenant's voice cut through her introflection and thought, and stirred her back to the corridor she was walking through.
"Thank you Eddy, love you"! The young heroin exclaimed with a bunny hop and giddy laughter, excitement stirring her blood. She liked how she wouldn't be too fatigued if she didn't have to fly at her fastest speed. That meant she had time for a quick snack, or at least grab a bite on the way. After brief moment of thinking about the choice she decided to ask Eddy, "Eddy, my dream boat of a man, is there by chance a place I could fill my appetite on the way to the guy who thinks he is going to rule over this planet".
"This is no boat, it is a Behemoth Class Carrier and I do not appreciate being told that I am a vessel of dreams that can cross a sea. It is blasphemous and truly an insult to my abilities and programming. There is a bar-b-q place on the way about a quarter of the way there. Good luck, I am telling the Captain of your departure".
Before Sarada could reply the AI and it's utilization of the holographic system and audio had dissipated form directly before her path. The young heroin looked at the Azul-like crystal balls that lined the corridors, and pretty much every place within The Revenant, and stuck out her tongue at it in an adolescents way of being vexatious to the AI. She quickly came to an exit and jumped clear out into the sky, a brilliant lavender aura surrounded her and licked out at the headwinds - as if it were alive and parting the sea before her. The young girl was not going to be stopped this time, and she quickly went toward the Citadel before her master could possibly catch her. At least that is what she had hoped and thought. For Jordan's skill and abilities far outclassed her own and she truly didn't know the depths of which he could push. Only a fraction she had seen on display from time to time. He was truly in a league of his own, well, at least in a league of legends that she had heard about that were spread all about the cosmos. One day she would meet them and have epic stories to tell her children.
Lathered soap seemed to dissipate as soon as it was scrubbed into the warrior's tough exterior, yet replenished itself as though it were just another part of the system balancing itself out. Jordan sometimes watched the bubbles of the pleasant aroma and wondered how simple its design was, yet so necessary to maintain a healthy presence- even warriors needed a good hygienic sense to ensure sickness not overtake them and possibly out of the fight. As the steam saturated into his pores, the half-breed heard an indiscrimanant voice interrupt his careless thoughts and as it began to speak he could feel his brows burrow in an arching manner as if he already knew what was going to be confirmed.
"My lord, as usual the teenage girl has succumbed to her boredom and left the ship to engage a group that claims it will take over this world and we should leave or perish in their conquest. As requested, I have informed you of the girl's plight. I sometimes do not compute as to why you would leave her as third in command over this vessel and crew. Mikayala, I understand, but Sarada...she has much growing to do. Per-", the shower was suddenly turned off and a bit of a growl cut the AI off in it's speech as Jordan reached for a towel and wrapped it round his waist. The warrior stepped out and caught the gaze of an emerald-eyed man staring back at him- himself. A finely cut and toned body with character-formed scars was in the reflection. Golden hair that seemed to dance on end and stay up as if it were the life of the party all on its own. Jordan took a breath and relaxed, his hair rustled and turned jet-black. Still a shine to it, but no longer golden and his body- still defined - but not as muscular as it just was. As a Saiyan Elite he could command a transformation with little to no effort and more just a thought- the half-breed had undeniable control over his existence and his warrior prowess...had he finally reached a plateau? He felt not, but then again he hadn't reached another level, not the level he had heard tales of over the years. Maybe it was time to take his student and together find that next mountainous peak to climb.
"She is young, but she does have a certain knack for making the right decision when the choice needs to be made. She has proven that well enough times for me not to mistrust her with you or the crew- or more so, my life-mate. Just playback the message received from this group of would-be-thugs. I am sure they are not the threat we truly care about Eddy", without a reply- Jordan watched as the message showed a crew of three or four being shown in a ship that couldn't house more than maybe six personnel, by the looks of it. The half-breed just grinned as he looked at the readings beside the message and the other display showing the group being wanted by the bounter's guild, but not hardly a tier one target. This simply made the rogue elite a bit more inclined to laugh than to be worried. For in this world, readings were often misleading- but that was not as often as most, and typically the intel from his bounty hunter friends was spot on.
"Here is the place Lady Sarada may be getting a bite to eat at this location...", Eddy stated as another screen popped up from seemingly out of nowhere and marked the place he had told the young Saiyaness only about twenty minutes prior to this engagement. Jordan just nodded and slid his arm across the displays before him in a swiping motion- rendering the images and holograms to dissipate as though they never existed to begin with. The warrior nodded and continued to put on his clothing, dressing and adorning the equipment he so often used for battle- one could never be careful these days after all.
As the bucklers fastened and boots were strapped, the rogue elite placed the ivory-robe around his shoulders and grinned toward Mikayla- she blew him a kiss and then dug back beneath the covers. It was a lazy day planned for her, her lover didn't need her assistance in this journey- she also needed to do a few things concerning other ventures the crew would undertake sooner than later. Jordan caught the kiss, smiled, and then pressed two fingers up toward his brow- instantaneously, he was gone from sight and reappeared in hole-in-the-wall store! The warrior's senses hit him with a wonderful smell of cooked meat. He supposed she had just arrived, "make that two please".
Lessons to be Given, Lessons to be Heeded Two and a Half Hours Ago...
Soaring through the sky at inhumane, yet average speeds of Saiyan blood, our heroin rolled and banked and enjoyed her youthful glow as expected of most sentient beings of her age. She was young and wild and for the first time in a few weeks, by herself. Doing as she pleased and not being commanded by her master of more and more pointless training. At least she viewed it as pointless, she were far more powerful than most beings of the universe - and at her age - she were a true protégé to say the least. Adolescent, nonetheless, only certain things would make one grow and that wasn't afforded to the young saiyaness...not yet. Her mind was on a long lost love that seemed to be eons ago, when in reality it had been only about a year or so.
The wind continued to catch and release all around her frame as our young saiyaness continued to make her way toward the place she could dig in to before she confronted the deviants that seemed to think they would be so inclined to make the peoples of this planet to ship off and leave with a mere message. Considering the people who were here, they didn't take kindly to such words- and at that thought, the young girl frowned. They didn't take kindly to threats, and they were a magical sort of beings- ones protected even by the deities- at least that is what Jordan had told her when they first arrived on planet. As she reflected on their talks she subconsciously took in the beauty that Dekalb exhibited. Truly it was a gift to the cosmos and the people on it took not for granted the encompassing naturality of it's worth. They wouldn't leave, she wouldn't allow it.
As the blip on her scouter came closer, the warrior-student slowed down and made her way through the canopy of trees that amassed around a rising smoke. From which the smell was that of meat roasting. It was more than a pleasant aroma for a hungry Saiyan, this was going to be amazing. She landed lightly, careful to not trample any flora around her. One of a white and pink colors that arched and intertwined together, set upon a bluish-colored stem. The young girl bent over and picked it from the ground and smelt the noble aroma coming from it. As she got her fill of the smell, she smiled and then went on to placing the lovely flower onto her right ear- master had always said that was the side in which denoted whether a lady on Earth was free of commitment. With a smile upon her face she continued toward the tiny hut with no sign of significance only the smell in which guided her promptly to pass through the arch with runes etched into them.
She noticed a dim glow coming from, but she did not know what the runes had meant, and didn't seem to be of significance so she continued toward the counter where she looked at the menu and a rather frothy fellow stood looking at the young Saiyaness, inquisitively. The warrior-student noticed his gaze and she gave him a wink with a single finger pointed upright as if asking for a minute to look at the menu. He just nodded politely and awaited the young saiyaness for her order.
"Forgive me, I am not trying to be rude. I would like to buy a full rack of your nicest ribs. Spicy and a bit of tang would be what sort of taste I am looking for. Do you have something like that"?
"That'll be a number four, you get a few sides with it. Want me to give a guess on those and give ya the most popular? I ain't from around here, married me a witch from Earth and here we are. I'm from Texas, and I promise ya- you'll like what I have planned for ya".
With a smile and a nod Sarada giggled excitedly with her eyes closed tightly thanking him, when a voice cut through the air and ordered the same thing she had just agreed to. It was Jordan, but how in the world did he catch up with her seemingly out of thin air! He didn't show up on the scouter, nor did he now. What the hell?!? Sarada went a little more shy and timid and had a half-cracked grin on when she opened her eyes to see him staring down at her, not in malice or disappointment, but with a light grin on his friendly face.
"Be right up, give me a few minutes to get all the fixings and the ribs out. Y'all can have a seat right over there along the bar stools, got a nice little area outside to eat- if ya fancy. Just let me know. In the mean time, can I offer ya a cold one? Perhaps a favorite of mine"?
"That would be wonderful, if it's a bottle bring me a six-pack worth. I appreciate it, this should cover the meal and a tip of course". Jordan let down a bit of zeni for the man and he ecstatically accepted and popped six tops off of, what read on it's label, Corona Extra. The warrior couldn't help but show a half-cocked grin as the man came to their table to drop them off.
"How long has it been since you been home to your planet my friend"?
"It has been some time, why do you ask"?
"No reason at all, just a friendly question is all. Thank you kindly for the drink".
Jordan reached in the bucket and pulled out one for his young student. The rogue elite was under the impression if a person was willing to enlist and die for their country- then their age ought not to matter for consumption of adult beverages. Of course this was the earthling side of his thought process, Saiyans- they didn't have an law against certain ages drinking. They figured if you had the gal to drink it down, then you had the right to enjoy a cold brew after a hard day at work. Sarada took the beverage without asking why he had inquired only when he seen the drink label, but instead pressed it to her supple lips and drank down the whole damn thing in a few seconds. She let out a nice, grand, belch and took another out of the bucket.
The rogue elite just laughed and motioned her to go outside with him. With a light kick, the screen door went open and the view to the patio area was one of mystique and beauty. To have such an establishment as this and then a magical scene to enjoy a bite to- well, it wasn't hardly seen in one's lifetime. Jordan figured it had to do with the wife being a bit of a witch, literally. He noticed the runes all along the perimeter and the ones on the door in and out of the little place. He smirked once more and nodded toward them at his student.
"You need to pay more attention to these runes Sarada. Had you the wrong intention you would've found yourself in a barrier being sent to Galdis for questioning. Intentions can be wrought with magical runes, such as the ones you see around this place. To be honest, I could've very well been caught in some similar barrier if my intention had been of malice and not simply coming to find you and accompany you to the place these thugs are going to be present at".
Sarada sagged her shoulders, but said nothing. She nodded in understanding and took another sip out her beer, one of which the name had once caused a great pandemic on the planet earth. Some time before, a history book had led to the knowledge and one that stuck with the warrior- he always thought the beer was the product of that pandemic and not been around since before it had sprung into effect. That is why he continued to smile as he took down the contents in their entirety.
A small crack caught the attention of the pair of Saiyans and the smell along with it- ribs, and other earthling sides. Jordan pointed and explained which each were: Mac n Cheese, Potato Salad, and Honey Baked Beans. The smells seem to mix in an apparent display of what could only be described as- art. The two warriors then glared at the giant ribs that were glazed in a spicy and tangy sauce that the owner claimed to have concocted himself. It looked and smelled delicious!
"Well folks, y'all enjoy these here ribs and sides. If ya think it could use some more spice"... the man pulled out a container with the label as Texas Pete. Jordan nodded in thanks and took the bottle, it wasn't the one that most people enjoyed, it was the hotter variation. One that took a bit of time to get used to- he set it on the table and decided to see how the meal was by itself before partaking in it. The man walked away and faded back into the building, leaving the two to enjoy a meal together. The two looked at one another and began to dig in without one more word uttered. A hum of delight seemed to fill the air. The two took their time and finished off the bottles of beer. Ribs were licked clean and the fixings were gone, some of the extra hot sauce as well.
Jordan took some time to simply enjoy the scene with his student- times would soon not be as they were now. Soon they would be going through darker and more scrupulous times. Things of his dreams seemed to be coming to fruition. Including this entanglement they were soon to join in on. It was as if a series of events were now running their course, and only time would tell who would be the victor- and who would be the loser. Such was Fate.
You Had Some Balls to Assume YOU Were Strong Enough
A low grumbling could be heard as the two warriors picked their ivory-colored fangs with a leftover splinter from the ribs they just devoured. With a light sigh of appreciation, the two smiled and in their own ways enjoyed the fine meal. It was then that the rogue elite's ears perked up and shortly after his senses his communicator began to whisper within his ear.
"Sire it appears the group that sent the message has broken through the atmosphere and is landing on the outskirts of the citadel. They haven't left their ship hull yet, shall I set a barrier around them- or are you close enough by to deal with the situation without aide from the Revenant"?
Jordan grinned, "Well it's about time I introduce my student to a technique she may never grasp, but it would explain a lot from her precarious glance earlier. I am nearby, no barrier needed. Thank you, inform the celestials and the wizards we will help take care of this situation".
Without explaining to his student he touched her on the shoulder and shut his eyes as he concentrated on the energies newly found on the planet. They were slime, as were there dimly-lit auras. They were easy to notice and the warrior, along with his student, disappeared in less than the blink of an eye or snap of a finger. The splint landed upon the table with a little piece of skin at the end of it. The man blinked dumbfoundingly and shrugged his shoulders- his wife was a witch after all, and he had seen wilder things in his life. Perhaps not as powerful, but wilder more bizarre things that were unexplainable other than it simply happened.
"General Talan we have entered the atmosphere, but it seems our trajectory is being altered by some unforeseen variable. It's as if some of the ships programming is compromised and is bringing us toward...the outskirts of the capitol. What would you command", the android piloting voiced as he had lost all control of the ship- to the barrier magic's that protected the capitol of Galdis. Of course the android couldn't compute the variable, it was an android of minimal design.
"It is as suspected and the intelligence gathered is correct. Nothing to worry, I presume we will be confronted shortly. After all, these magicians, seem to think they are above reproach. They are not, they bleed and die just as any of us do", the General replied in a rather robust tone.
The android did as it was told and the ship landed according to the unseen and unknown magics that were activated for such moments as this. The only thing that didn't occur as their general had said, was no lifeforms were at the landing site. The General ordered scans of the area, and nothing but minimal life forms came back with power levels less than that of most sentient beings in the universe. His brow furled onto itself when the android brought a screen up of two subjects- whom appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
"No one move. Open the door and wait for my command. I know the raven-haired man in the ivory cloak...let us hope he isn't the welcoming party"...the General said in stuttering-like manner, not confident as he was just a few minutes ago. The crew had never seen him act like this and they were all taken back and speechless. The scans showed this being with only a power reading of eight.
"Eight"?!? Golan exclaimed and looked at their leader inquisitively, "but sir, we can easily wipe him off th-", the man was silenced with a crack on his neck! The cloaked figure stood over the man's disabled and unconscious body, and with a slow- yet quick- turn the hooded figure seamlessly turned from a medium-statured man. To a slender, elven-like, woman of about five feet and a half with shades of silver as eyes and a physique of an in shape female in their mid thirties.
The general turned to silence Golan, but it was too late. The hooded figure had already done so, along with changing entirely. He was at a loss of words and before he could question the oddity, the lady uttered a few words in an ancient language. Within the split hair of a second, the entire crew felt their eyes heavy...within moments all fell unconscious- save one. The android.
"Android, you may want to come with me if you wish to stay assembled. The half-breed on that screen may have use of you and the crew if he so desires to add you into a prestigious and contiguous organization that not many get the chance to join". The shadow of a woman shimmered from sight as her words were laced and dissipated on the bridge. As she disappeared, the craft alerted the remaining crew to the power of the young girl next to the insignificant man before their ship- her power, must've been a misreading. The Android had never encountered a warrior of such strength. It decided to get up and leave the crew aboard the ship and follow out the craft with hands up- holding a white flag above its hand in it's clutches.
"Adana. Well, where in the heavens have you been...it's crazy to find you here with such honored company". Jordan couldn't believe his eyes and before his student could ask a cloaked figure stepped out of shimmering cloud- where it came from was a mystery in and of itself- and from it, a female revealing her face and a shit-eating-grin along with the light to encompass her. As if she were some demon, angel of sorts.
"Well my dear, it is a long story. I am parched, how about a drink of some magical ale and we shall throw a riddle or two your way to answer your questions. The guys on board will be out for....a few weeks or so, they are going anywhere. I believe a new crewmember might be wanting to join the Revenant. So what do you say? Let an old lady have the company of such a fine young man"?
Just as her words reached his drums, an android appeared behind her with a waving white flag. It recounted the story as Jordan rubbed the temples of his head. Life indeed was beginning to become interesting. Interesting indeed.
"Is there ever a choice with you Lady Adana? Fine, we will do so, but if that android tries anything, you are responsible for it's actions. Sarada, go and put the crew in holding cells, this looks to be a...Dreadnaught Class cruiser from the war. You should find it suitable and fitting for such a job".
The Saiyaness did so without question and glared at the new figure who seemed to have a certain air about her, but she couldn't place her finger on it. As she passed the droid, she grabbed him by the arm and took him along with her. Her excitement was replaced with mild contempt at how the situation was handled. It couldn't be helped.
