Kotarou: 851
Barkley: 730 [Combat, Human]
Kotarou watched as the forces of Garou and his army were pulled back, and sat down as the horns faded away with flames. The fire didn't seem to have harmed the lad, and that was because they were just a part of him. The demon looked over at Barkley and smiled about the sword. "Well, we have a victory. How does it feel to have won our fight?" It likely wasn't something that she had a huge grip on. This was new for Barkley, but if she paid attention to the demon, he was rather at ease. He was used to war, and that may have come off as strange.
Time had gone by to allow Garou and his forces to leave and any interactions between them had long since past. Barkley found herself looking over toward the Kotarou and she could sense his ease. It was strange to her, but then again she had to remember that this was new to her.
The fight with Garou gave her the perspective of war that she was missing and she would be lying if she said that sadness did not wash over her. War just wasn't fair. "Empty."
She answered him with one word. Barkley didn't feel as if she won, but more so felt that Garou lost. She didn't want Garou to lose. "I set out to protect the minor worlds, but this right here is going to take it's toll on me.
"I can't protect all of them. The moment we leave this place, they may attack again. I don't want to lose Mortoseth to them."
Barkley sat down against a tree and took in a breath. She held the air for a moment before exhaling.
"But I will do my best for Mortoseth."
The demon well understood her reply. It seemed liked Garou and Barkley knew more about each other. She probably didn't want him to loose. But, the loss of the Scholars would have meant that Mortoseth could have been corrupted by the Fallen. Kotarou closed his eyes before he pushed himself up with a "yup" and then looked over at Barkley and smiled gently. "War was never so simple as just 'protect' and 'attack'. There's the opponents that you find. Friends can become enemies. Enemies could be your ally. It never gets easy."
The only reason it'd been easy with the Orkz was because they were not for this world. But in the past Galactic War? The Steel Legion could have taken your friends and turned it into a conflict of if you wanted your friend shut off forever. He closed his eyes and then said, "I'm glad that you have found a resolve. But remember that I'll be here with you. Y'don't have to shoulder everything by yourself. I'm here to be a rock that you never have to worry about leaving." Well, that rather cheesy. But he meant the words.
Barkley grinned at his words before looking his way. "That guy? I met him on Kelioux while I did some digging in an ancient ruin and ended up on a trial. He's a good dude. I vibe with him a lot, and I wanted to connect us all. I feel we can all come together and accomplish our goals. I mean...it is a weird dream. What I want matches what you want. You call it a pack, and I just call it-- I guess camaraderie."
This war made it seem a bit hard to pull that off though. "Kota, we have a lot of things to do. This war is one big distraction from it. We should get back to our goals the moment we can. Thank you for sticking around."
"Ah, I think his name was Garou? I played a game with him on Kelioux, but our meeting was more like strangers playin a pick up game," he responded. He didn't told much ill will. Garou seemed rather straight forward in some ways: honorable battling was never something that Kotarou considered. He then smiled back at her after his thoughtful look.
"A pack is a family," he corrected her gently. It was a deeper connection than that. He tilted his head at the last thing she said, but the demon nodded in agreement. "Yer right, this war has interrupted the life that we had. The future that we planned... and why would I leave ya?" He grinned harder at that.
A family. It was a strong word to Barkley and she understood it well. She felt how he spoke it that the two of them had similar goals yet all the same they were straying down slightly different paths, at-least for now. She was hesitant to agree with him, simply because she was not so sure what she wanted was 'family'. But did she speak up? No. Maybe she was afraid to. Instead she brushed it off with a small chuckle and took to his last question as a way to maybe get that portion off her chest without actually mentioning the depth of her words.
"I always think that you want more from me than I am willing to offer. You are a sweet guy Kotarou, and sometimes I feel odd that I don't have romantic feelings. I guess sometimes I feel wrong. One day, I do feel you will leave me and I won't ever blame you for it. At times, I certainly feel that you should. I don't want you to, but what if it all catches up to you? What if who I am, and how freely my affection can flow get to you? Could you still be my rock?"
Her head tilted and she fluttered her eyes a bit with a serious expression. Her eyes stared at him and did not show a sign of jest.
Of course Kotarou knew that he pushed the boundaries with his question, but he would have to tell her that a pack being a family was his personal meaning. They didn't have to be lovers for it to work. "You once warned me, did you not?" It wasn't something that he was as concerned about right now. "Affection and how it flows. The way that human society thinks about it..." It wasn't hard to get what he was meaning. Humans weren't the center of all things, but especially their idea of what a relationship was. What is to them.
"I told you. I'll be your rock. Leaving you doesn't cross my mind. Not unless you decided to push me away. I'd be hurt, but I respect you. You've accepted me, faults and all. No one, not even my parents, were able to do that." He walked over and if she didn't pull away, he'd hug her. Sincerely, as a way to tell her "I'm here". It likely wasn't needed, but war for the uninitiated was scary.
"If you're uncomfortable using pack, we don't have to. If the word family makes you uncomfortable, just say it." He pulled back, but not very far, to look her in the eyes. He hadn't forgotten her fears. "What the pack means to you, is what it means to you. 'Family' is just the word drilled into my skull by my demonic heritage. I am that I am, a pack animal, after all."
"O-Oh," she said as she felt kind of embarrassed. He read her easily and she looked down flustered some and even turning red and then he gave her a hug and naturally she returned it back in kind. "I'm sorry, when you say family it does worry me. I didn't mean to put that kind of pressure on you. Okay, so...uhh."
She stood up from the tree and she took a nice long stretch, but only after breaking his hug some. "Mm, since you respect me so much, I am going to respect you too!" She grinned and then with all the comfortability in the world.
"So I had sex with Garou. D-Does that bother you in any way? Especially if I tell you that I do not love the guy and stuff like that? It was just sex?"
"You aren't gunna go all alpha wolf on me and go fight Garou to try and claim me are ya?" She was 75% joking, about 20% turned on by the idea and 14% serious. She was still searching for the 1% that she felt.
Kotarou tilted his head. Sex was an act of relief for some cultures out there. It was just release for others, but for humans it was a desire for children, if he understood it right. The demon smiled, and replied, "While I'd like to be exclusive, I won't tell you not to. After all, we talked about this many times. You warned me many times." His ideas and his thoughts wouldn't stop her, nor were they in a committed Earth-style relationship. At least not as far as the demon knew. He'd already missed plenty of signs before, thought.
"I might want to, but I ain't dumb enough to try. The guy already tried to break my little guy, after all," well, maybe she didn't see that, but now it was out there. "Sex is just sex. Normally it's for procreation, but because you can't...I'm fine with it. You and I probably have a stronger connection than any other lovers you have, I'd like to think." He didn't have any others yet, though that might be partly because of his focus on Barkley.
