After making short work of his last opponent, Pain has been standing by for the next emissary from the Kais to make a run at Ippen.
Pain has 24 from now to get a post up or his defense is forfeit. This must be declared by the opposing forces in OS Chat to be valid.
A reminder of the rules are below:
- They will be 2v2, max. (When you begin your claim, you must name your +1. Any challengers must also name their +1 in their sneak post) - They are No Kill/Steal (if you lose, your character will be overrun by enemy forces, and you'll have to escape the planet. This doesn't require anything special from you, its just an IC excuse to end the battle) - Win Conditions: When the average damage of a side in battle reaches 50%, that side loses. If the battle reaches the end of Round 3 (standard 3 posts each per round), then the Kai Forces lose. - Everyone will receive 4 actions per post (there is no speed action/tactician/etc). Stuns/DZ/similar techs will still work. - There is no healing of any kind. (There may be exceptions, but we'll tell you when the time comes) - Each combatant may bring in 3 prepped items. - Finishers are unusable. - In the interest of keeping this phase moving along, the 24 and 48 hour rules WILL be in affect. - Anyone that loses a battle must heal for 7 days before they may participate further.

A New Challenger?
Despite being grossly outmatched, the two girls managed to hold Pain and Recoome up long enough that they missed their window to strike at Luther. After experiencing what could be described as their first failure as a team, they split up. While the PTO Hulk moved on to another target, the android hung back on Ippen. It was expected that the enemy had some kind of vested interested in the planet, and while it offered little strategic value to the Fallen Empire, denying the Kais took priority. It didn't take long for a new challenger to be sent, and this one, Pain sensed, offered more of a threat than any he'd faced since joining the war effort. Without his overpowered partner for back-up, he knew there was to be little room for error.
"These people are in no danger. They have experienced no pain," he said dryly to the woman that now stood across from him as he calmly took a fighting stance. Following the example set by his previous opponents, he'd met his new one away from the dense population centers that were Ippen's floating cities. Their battle would take place upon a series of mining platforms that had been vacated at the start of the war. There was no danger of loss of life, save the challenger herself if she pushed too him too far.
Throwing away the chance for introductions, he initiated his attack. While one arm rose, pointing two fingers at his foe, the other subtly rolled some kind of orb that had been spit out of his very palm. As it reached the girl, it exploded in a flash of light and powerful static electricity. From the other hand, a twin-set of nigh invisible electrical bolts arced out, filling the air with a faint scent of ozone. From there, the android pounced, launching himself forward like a rocket while sending two carefully-aimed punches, one to the cheek and the other to the ribs.
Good versus evil was a concept that did not exist. The Fallen nor the Kais were just. Each person that fought in the war had their own motives and that included the ginger as she touched down on Ippen. She had come alone, which was dangerous in a war, but she could not risk more lives like she did on Mortoseth. That is why the abandoned mining area was chosen as the spot and not only that, but the sky was also dyed a retro purple burn with the sun dipping low to finally slumber for the night. The purple hue invaded the entire area and Barkley could see her opposition in-front of her and his eyes were cold.
He spoke, filling her ears with a parched tone that held no range of octaves. It was a calming and calculative speech and comparing that to her lack of being able to feel his presence she could only assume that he was phantom of sorts. The scouter contacts that were set in her eyes could still pick him up, however, highlighting him with a red outline.
He was real.
She took on a stance, setting her feet apart and crouching her 5’4 frame. Good. The people were in no danger. He had no reason to lie about it. With them this far away from population it gave her a sense that he cared about causing too much collateral damage, and it was something she also feared to do. It reminded her again that this was not a battle of good and evil, it was just a battle of interest and who had the will to push their own agenda.
Could her willpower overtake his?
There was no time for the ginger to introduce herself, almost lobbying to do so which was easy to see from the opening of her mouth. He attacked. An orb rolled over to her and she looked down before jumping upward, but she was just a second too late. Electricity slithered into her body and clamped down onto every inch of her bone structure, locking her in place and a yelp escaped that open mouth of hers before it clamped shut itself.
Two bars of illuminance crackled and tagged her in the chest snapping her out of the convulsion and she gasped. With her teeth clenching and eyes narrowing down to a glare, a shot from his fist smashed into her cheek with another fist looming close behind it.
But she was done taking punishment.
Her foot stomped onto the platform she was on, caving a dent into its structure. The electrically charged air would begin to heat up temporarily, creating a confliction of odor that flickered between ozone and scorched air. Her body spun around his last incoming fist, missing her ribs entirely and there was an explosion of a crimson aura from her body…
“Limit Breaker 20.”
Despite the weight in her voice, it was calm. Despite the intensity of the air, her movements were fluid. Two lightning fast punches, flicker jabs, aimed right at his rib cage in revenge but they lacked power. She couldn’t put her all into the punch… she was not done moving. Her body left an image after the last jab left out toward his ribcage and the true Barkley had moved until she was on the opposite side of her last attack.
Her fists sparked with white energy, despite the crimson hue of her aura. Her stance squared up. She took a step into his personal space and brought her fists along for a wild ride. Her punches came in groups of two at first. One group aimed for his face, a hook to the cheek and uppercut to his chin, and the red aura simmered away right after. Another group, after her upper body swung outward went for where his kidney would be on both sides. The third group waited until she took a step back and then shot out like cannon fire to his chest, one after the other. This left one punch by itself.
She went right for the nose, with bad intentions of smashing it. Behind each punch was a kiai, or a shout, to help provide power and keep her breathing stabilized. Unlike before, the usage of her Limit Breaker did not send unbearable pain into her system, but she felt its discomfort nonetheless.

This opponent was no slouch. As much as she resembled the other girls, unlike her predecessors this was meant to be an actual challenge, rather than a distraction. She had come to win, but his mission simply didn't allow it. He ducked her first blow, leaning inhumanly backwards, but the second strike found purchase against his chest. An explosion of energy, though not her own, erupted from the impact zone. His body took in her energy, restructured it, and bit back at her even as she made contact. After that, the duo became a blur of motion, with some of her attacks meeting their mark, other glancing off, and still more missing entirely as he contorted his body around her fists.
She had spirit - so much that with his eyes, he could see the fire burning within her - but it was time to stymie that passion. At the first critical opening, he tensed his body, instantly unleashing an eruption of energy that would give him space to work. His next move was to hold his hand out towards her, each finger glowing momentarily before these tiny orbs raced forward. Thing strings formed a network, connecting these orbs as they expanded to envelop her. He lunged backwards, back-flipping to create distance.
"You need not experience undue pain. Give up this foolhardy pursuit," he commanded, his deep voice echoing unimpeded across the cold steel of the platform. He doubted this alone would stop her, but once she understood what she was up against, that may change. "Universal Pull." As gravity bent to his will, ripping at the girl's body to hold her fast, he charged forward, leaping once he was in range to spear her with his shoulder. As the distance between them shrank rapidly, he raised one arm to his side, creating a spinning disk of energy that produced a high-pitched scream almost inaudible to most mortal ears. After he'd passed either through her, or by her, he slid to a stop, turned, and launched the deadly razor blade.
Her eyes winced shut at the bite of energy he stole from her but afterwards the rush of punches she sent at him blurred from view. Some missed and others hit their intended marks before his body tensed. An explosion of energy threatened to engulf her, and she did as he wished. Her form vanished from normal sight; his eyes most likely still able to follow. Barkley would appear several feet away and, in the air, as she would have run out of room on the current platform in her escape of his attack.
The ginger fell toward him, wanting to close the gap again, and her eyesight focused on the hand which he extended. Two tiny orbs rushed at her and she curled into a ball. As the network of wires were created, looking to trap her, a spark of light snatched at them and electricity bounced around her balled up form. He spoke and she heard him call upon a universal pull of some sort.
She felt gravity’s sweet embrace around her body and though it held her there, the pull itself was weakened to nothing as the electricity converted its momentum into raw energy for her to eat, just like the net he fired. Her body touched onto the platform with a light tap, her form unfolding right into a shoulder charge and her body slid backwards to his force. One eye refused to shut down at the pain she was experiencing for the attack and she looked up toward the screaming disk. He sent her body into a spin as he charged passed her and with a turn the razor-sharp circular blade came whizzing toward her.
“Without pain,” Barkley started, yelling so he could hear. She started a rush toward him and with one hand she smacked away the blade, cloaking her palm with energy to avoid being cut.
“Happiness loses its meaning.”
She swung her fists, still cloaked with energy, one after another. Her aim went for his center, being the easiest place to land.
“So pain is always due. Give it to me.”
A pulse of electricity sparks out from her fists, looking to lock his systems or at-least make it more difficult for him to move around.
“Barkley. That is my name.”
He didn’t want introductions, yet she wouldn’t be denied it.

He parroted the word back, mumbling it as she approached. The girl struck like lightning, dealing him two swift blows before he could react. As he stumbled backwards from the second one, he blinked in confusion. He'd tried to move between the two punches, attempting to counter the second, but it was like time blinked forward and when it resumed he'd already been struck.
Re-stabilizing his footing, he slowed the pace for a moment. The android looked his opponent over, looking closer than he had before. His eyes found them - the trace outlines of scars covering her exposed skin - even her face. To a human, these things would have long since healed and become invisible, but to his lifeless, intense eyes and their pale lavender glow, they were as obvious as her nose once he looked for them. This girl had experienced Pain before.
"You speak as if you and Pain were friends," he responded, knowing that Pain had no such thing, "But if you truly knew Pain, then you would understand how misguided you are to say that Pain and Happiness are connected." He spoke in absolution. How could she be right? He had taken on more Pain than any being in history, and yet not once had he felt Happiness. That was why he had his mission. That was why he must cleanse the unclean, and give life another chance. "These two feelings must be exclusive of the other, that is the only possibility."
With a sudden jerk, he raised his palms to the sky, the gems set in them gleaming brightly. In the blink of an eye, they collected the ultraviolet light surrounding him and focused it in a beam of artificial light that would blind his foe. "Pain has run rampant in the lives of mortals, filling the crevices of all civilization and leaking from each of you as if you are all sowing your own seeds of discord," he called. "But as we speak your sins are being washed away, even the ones you didn't know you committed." In an instant he moved past her, sticking a small, sticky device against her back before he was out of range again. "You would be wise to move along. It is not my mission to share my Pain with you, but if you continue to impeded me, I will have no choice but to show Barkley Cass what she cannot comprehend." That was it, he had seen her. The sum total of all she was - like data points, he could look through her entire history, identifying the moments that she had reeked Pain into the universe. She was good, and seldom had she done it without good intention, but it didn't matter. Pain clung to the soul, staining it for eternity. It didn't see intention, or good-will, or the bright side of happiness - it only knew what it was called, and that was all it was good for.
She took a breath after the punches, the pace slowing itself. She heard him echo her and his confusion was genuine enough for the ginger to understand that her concept was not something he could register. His analytical stare gave her goosebumps. Instead of folding and trying to evade his eyesight, she tensed herself and narrowed her gaze. His wording sounded almost… third person like. It was as if he referenced pain as himself. Is that what he thought?
Did he think he was a manifestation of pain itself?
He spoke on her being misguided, and his words were not shaky. They held an air of absolution within it as if there had been trial and error to back up his point. When he spoke of them being exclusive she shook her head violently and her tone had an offending nature to it.
“No you are wrong-”
Before her words could escape the amethyst lighting started to intensify. It did not help at all that the world around them was already dim and her eyes had adjusted to such measures. When the intense light flashed she fought to cover her eyes, but she could not escape the bright white.
Her breathing increased, almost to levels of hyperventilation. He had nothing to sense. The only thing that could track him was her scouter and with her vision gone Barkley felt as if she was fighting a phantom. What made them so scary was that you knew they were there and they could touch you at anytime.
You just did not know when.
Her eyes were tampered shut and with a whimper filled with terror she yelled, “Scouter Accessibility mode, Blind!!”
UNDERSTOOD. ENERGY SIGNATURE 90 DEGREES BEHIND YOU.
The scouter rang into her head and gave her his location, yet she still could not see. In a fit of fear with him being behind her a spark of electricity jumped off her body to send a jolt into his body as he tagged her and she screeched in dread. The mining platform they stood on shook as her power unleashed. She turned to face the direction that her scouter spoke with her eyes still burning.
“Pain intensifies the healing of happiness. Has no one ever tried to heal you? Is that why you can’t see happiness working with your pain? Has your pain stacked so great that it would take a miracle joy to erase it?”
Barkley struggled to open her eyes, seeing only blurred visions. Tears were starting to run down her face.
“Because… I like performing miracles. Screw what the Kai’s have in store. Screw the Fallen. It sounds like you need a miracle. I don’t mind taking on another one. I can erase your pain…u-uhm what is your name?”
She coughed and a trickle of blood dripped from her mouth. It was the after effect of taking his shoulder charge earlier and with him forcing her to stop moving, the adrenaline was running low. Barkley did not want to assume his name was Pain, though he spoke as if it were.

So, both sides are KO at this point and as I was beginning to do a post by post comparison I decided to rule both sides KO at the same time. Why? Because despite these OS battles having flexible battle mechanics I am not OK with them being pulled out of the air like this and confusing the line between what to allow and what not to. Therefor both sides lose this battle.
I am leaving the below math from the point I made this decision as a reference. Barkley - Round 1 x2 Suiken (DR3) (+4%) (8.32% x2) Blast Punch (DR3.5) (+1%) (10.10%) Damage Taken: 26.74%
