Bytautus had a strange interest in Jormand’r. It was strange only because the patron of woe did not have interest in explaining it to their avatar. Samara was used to the deity sharing everything with her, usually too much. They had been together since she was a child and Bytautus was her first teacher. They taught her the ways of the world in the way they knew it, and the only way Samara could relate to it at that time. All her memories were infected with that ugly thing she would come to rule over. Pain, sorrow, and distress was all she could remember by the age of eight and she took it, and took it, until something finally cracked. Her own emotions were far too gone when the god slithered in and began to feed her the woes of others to see if such a shell would break. Bytautus was used to creating such beings, dead to the world until they could no longer function as a human, let alone an avatar. But Samara just carried on. She continued through her tasks and her mind churned away. She absorbed the woes of the world like a sponge soaking up an endless supply of liquid. It would be wrong to say she was interested in learning then, but she did want something to fill her mind. Facts and data created hypothesizes and a better understanding of what would happen next. Understanding the ways of woe and distress would probably be useful to something someday, or so her mind said while taking in everything Bytautus had to teach her. They taught her about Zaun too, and the early days and how their hunger could not be sated. They wanted her to become an agent of that, to feed them more, but fate took her on a different path, and perhaps like Jormand’r, they became curious as to what exactly their avatar would do next. Part of what Byta had said was that the other patrons would take poorly to them, which was why she had been somewhat reluctant to openly state her position, but the truth would come out. She wanted it to, but on her own terms with her own ability to express it, and that’s how this battle came to mind. In a battle everything could be laid bare, and she would be taken as she was or she wouldn’t be, and everyone would know where they stood. ”Ready?” she asked. They were standing now in the middle of nowhere. One would argue that was most of Namek, but they were actually away from any people. It was not out of the goodness of Samara’s heart to avoid their deaths from her more explosive talents, but so that no one got in the way. Even the invading Shadowguard forces were far to the west. The area wasn’t completely clear. She wasn’t used to fighting on empty plains and didn’t think to pick such a spot. There were trees scattered about and the earth jutted upwards in places. Mostly it was uneven ground but some of the rocky features created plateaus large enough to fight on while others served as miniature mountains and cliffs. There was a body of water not too far away, as there tended to be in most areas on Namek, creating a marsh that flowed out into a river. It was a picturesque place she did not think twice about destroying. Asking, despite being unready herself, Samara took a soft breath in. She pulled up the wells of her power and Bytautus threatened to peek out, creating that vague sense of a bad feeling. Considering all that was happening, such an instinct could be for many things, but none were devastating. She lifted her hand in front of her and a small sphere of ice and mist was created floating above it. She turned her palm to cup it from above before tightening around it. The sphere was squeezed outward and created a short staff of something like hardened ice. It was the element that resonated with her the most, and thus the easiest to manipulate in any dimension. She gave Riya a small nod, expecting her guard then rushed to close the gap between them. Her foot crushed down into the earth when in range and she spun into a hard kick towards Riya’s head before jumping up to shoot down again with the aim of slamming both heels into her. Kicking off, she moved into another spin as both hands carried the icy staff towards her neck with a biting frost. Pulling it back in a fluid motion it struck out again towards Riya’s body. She stepped forward after into the other woman’s space, as one foot stomped downward towards her ankle. Samara’s elbow snapped towards her jaw after before she pushed further in to slam the fist gripping the staff towards Riya’s face before another jab shot at her kidney. The short staff then came stabbing forward as of it were a dagger aiming to pierce her side. Her other arm had pulled back to her own shoulder and snapped back again this time trying to reach her shoulder to push Riya downward before Samara’s knee rose up towards the avatar’s gut. The staff swapped hands behind her back and swung around to strike towards the inside of Riya’s elbow. All the while the staff bit at Riya’s flesh trying to leave itself behind upon her. Samara was aiming to freeze her piece by piece.

Riya had just met this woman, and after reconnecting with that Yan Cass character for the first time in years. She was enjoying retired life before this, but the call to arms was a call no warrior could resist. It all started with her going to meet her dying father, a Saiyan warrior on the brink of death. He gave her an amulet from her mother and his sword as a gift (The sword was something that his subordinates offered during his funeral and part of his will). The sword was nice, but the amulet was filled with Zaunite God energy that just continued to attract Riya to her origins more than she had ever been attracted.
This led her to following Samara. Samara was strangely attractive, and not in the way of physical fascination or a lustful aura. It was the mystery of the woman and her connection to Zaun and possibly its gods. It was natural for Avatars to sense other Avatars, but Samara could not be one.
Riya did not sense her and neither did Jormand’r.
She could just be one of those instinctive believers of the Zaunite Religion. It was no doubt she was a Zaunite, but the doubt that plagued her was if she was anywhere connected to the gods. How this led them to Namek, Riya and even Samara probably didn’t know. Fate was strange that way. Things did not have to make sense entirely. What made sense to Riya was that the two women knew nothing about each other, and the best way – the Laerys way – was through battle.
Samara may have considered Gram her home, but what Laerysian could avoid battle as a means of introduction? Riya would be caught staring at Samara with concentrated eyes that seemed to attempt reading every twitch of Samara’s form.
Riya nodded while adjusting her gauntlet cloaked hands. Her sword was attached to her back horizontally and without a traditional sheath. Instead, it was being clasped by metallic grip that would ease its grip if she reached for the hilt. Her right Gauntlet seemed a bit bulkier and sturdier than her left. It seemed to be something full of hidden secrets. Samara could finally take a good look at Riya and who she may have been to the Paladins, or even to herself.
Special Operatives, the Lurker of the Shadows, or even the Night Watch. Those were the names they gave to the Paladin Knights that were part of the more shadier and secretive missions. They were more like ninjas than samurai – a mixture of both and were far more trickier than just a straight sword fighter. That gauntlet was proof of it.
“Come at me,” Riya said with an article of faith. Riya, the Avatar of Servility, moved her eyes toward the sphere that Samara grabbed and formed into a staff. That in itself was problematic to see and gave Riya a small sense of what she was going to be dealing with. Prejudgment filled her mind, staff users were primarily defensive and filled with counter attacks. Would Samara be the same?
It only took a few steps for Samara to close the gap. Riya took a quick step backwards at the point the kick would have hit her in the face, allowing intuition to kick in. When Samara jumped up, Riya side stepped away from the quick heel drop. As Samara spun, Riya took a large jump backwards rather than a step to avoid the increase radius of the attack from the staff’s length.
This is when Riya took hold of her sword with her left hand and a tiny hiss of smoke escape the mechanical clasp that held the blade. With the blade released Riya used it to clash and parry the next staff swing and her feet pranced to avoid the ankle shot. The flat side of her blade met with Samara’s elbow and with a single swing she deflected the shots to her face and then her kidney. With a quick spin and a swing for momentum, another clash of her blade and Samara’s Staff created sparks as she parried that away as well. “Nice.”
In a brilliant flash of white light, a body shield cloaked the entirety of Riya’s body and she firmed her body to become just light a brick wall. Each strike from Samara caused no shifts in momentum due to the damage soaking ability of her shielded body. “Very nice.”
Riya slung her left gauntlet and from her wrist came a thick whip that slashed out extremely fast and toward Samara’s face for a much needed distraction to get this started for herself. Dependent on how Samara reacted, Riya stepped in to keep them close and swung her blade upward from Samara’s hip and up to her opposite shoulder. A trail of tiny explosions followed the path and would pop off like tiny fireworks that aimed to painfully seal the slice which Riya attempted to make on the woman. With her other hand the whip that dangled from her wrist compartment came back with another slash but this time she ducked low to take the whip to her ankles and it too left behind a trail of energy explosions just like her sword.
Her ducking motion led to another slice from her sword but from side to side this time, trying to open up Samara’s belly and seal it back up again with energy bursts. To add just one more thing for the woman to deal with, and to set Riya up with a decent follow up, Riya’s left gauntlet lifted up to point toward Samara’s face and a blinding flash of light zoomed forward to engulf the entire upper half of her body with it. It did not damage, and only served the purpose of blinding her opponent.

Samara smiled at the compliment, or perhaps it was simply the combat. She had few good memories of Laeyrs, and the people of Gram were the first to truly try and take care of her. Kalime did her best to teach the wild child not to fight at the smallest provocation. She taught the Avatar when it was important to fight and how. The staff became her weapon when her aggression needed toned back, but now it was a part of her, and it grew just as aggressive in the heat of things. Her knee cut into an iron wall, and the ice crackled against the forcefield. The woman spoke again before a shift of her own arm unleashed a new weapon. Samara jumped back and it was like she had been standing in a thick mess of icy snow. The force of her jump shot the ice upwards at Riya’s whip and arm while the rest fell like sticky dangerous snow overhead. Riya stepped in and Samara gripped the staff with both hands pulled apart prepared to block. She had fought someone smaller than her on many occasions, but it was just less common for adults of most species to sit under five foot as she did. She had to take Riya as such an opponent, and her blonde hair reminded her of her pirating days with a group of Lismians. This one used a dagger, but the slicing pattern was the same. When you’re small, you rise up. The knick of the blade touched her before she could push the staff in the way, kicking hard off the ground to rise with Riya’s own force as she kept the weapon steady. The spark of ki licked at her arms, but as it reached its apex she gave it one more push before using her own ki to flip over in the air. The crafty whip cut towards her but she pulled in her legs so the slash clashed with her boots. The force almost cut through them and the ki burned like fire up her ankles. She wasn’t worried yet. She had thick boots and even thicker calluses on her feet that had walked on ice and flame in many states of training. Worried yet, of course. Each bit of damage was recorded and noted. She couldn’t keep blocking with her feet. The force of the slice gave her further momentum however as she ducked into a second roll. Her feet touched the ground and she used the force of gravity to keep her moving forward, and speed up the run it came with so that she could step swiftly into a turn and avoid the vertical slice. Unfortunately, this spun her back to face Riya and her gauntlet of blinding light. Her staff moved across her fingers quickly before turning into a defensive spin from side to side. If she couldn’t see, she would still make it difficult to get past her guard.

As the biting frost bit and snarled at Riya and her lasso gauntlet, she could only smirk. The snow easily wrapped around Riya’s entire body, causing her form to glittered with an icy snow aura. Samara moved with grace as she blocked and dodged her attacks, but ultimately could not escape the irascibility of her flash technique. Samara proceeded to swing about her staff in a defensive manner to avoid a direct confrontation from Riya, and it worked for the most part.
She did not dare run directly into a barrage of blind swings without analyzing the pattern of the spins. When she spotted the opening in the swings, she whipped her rope out to make it longer and thicker, the sounds of its quick smack against the earth being heard. It was a feint sound, one to make Samara focus on that point. After making the sound, Riya took a long and fast leap over Samara’s head. With her great strength and control, Riya maneuvered the rope into a lasso that would wrap around Samara’s body and staff like the tail of a snake. With all her might she would attempt to squeeze the breath out of Samara all while bringing the blunt of her blade toward the side of her neck.
If Samara figured a way to avoid the encounter, Riya would land on the ground and push off of it with another leap, fast and blinding to those not quick enough to keep up. Her whip would attempt to seize her again with the same life sapping grip and this time her blunt side would aim toward her skull to scramble her brains. All while she performed these movements, the biting snow that was once an ally of Samara had become her enemy, snipping and biting back at her with loyalty to their new owner.
Each time Riya struck, or attempted to strike, she let the whip go of its death grip, and did so once again. With a flick of her wrist the whip had become shorter and more manageable.
“How much of Jormand’r do you know? Did you know he was the Ice Serpent of Zaun?” Riya was genuinely concerned at how Samara was approaching her. It was not impossible to freeze her, but it was increasingly difficult. Riya also could tell that it was going to be harder to freeze Samara as well, which started to paint theories in the Zaunite’s head.
“What are you?”
Riya’s eyes were no longer...normal. The pupils had slit like a reptile’s. Her whip like maneuvers were already like that of a snake, quick and slithery. Her approach to battle was tricky and never direct, which played off who she was Avatar too. The question that rolled off her tongue was also from both Jormand’r and Riya at the same time with authentic questioning.
Her gauntlet hand pointed out toward Samara, and a snake’s tail shot out and aimed to emulate the same movements as before; wrapping around her and squeezing her. It would not hurt as the others did, but it would be difficult to move or escape, and the biting frost would nip and sting at every inch of her body.

”You’re blind.” ”For now.” ”I can see.”
She knew Riya’s maneuvers would outpace her methodic swings and blocking wouldn’t be anything so fundamental. Even with sharpened senses the former Paladin was close to silent, only making sounds to dispel her. Above? Behind? It was too early for this and yet the gnawing feeling she felt so strongly when someone was suffering was active now as if to respond to Samara’s own future grief at what this decision would cause. She was not an emotional person despite her bubbly persona, and everything boiled down to facts and consequences. She had set her mind to save Zaun at whatever cost and sacrifice that might conjure. She was quick to apologize, quick to try and ease a mood, because that made things easier. She had no pride in her true self or even Bytautus. Such a move at such a time could prove less than beneficial, and yet she remembered Riya’s form when she swept in on Stalks. ”Jormand’r.”
The memory was enough to create a short wave of passion within her patron, and they blew their own cover, letting their voice be heard. The choice made for her, she had no reason to hesitate. Riya jumped up and Samara’s aura flared an icy blue with its edges tainted black as her form shifted slightly. The air of Namek, normally thick and hot, seemed to drop in temperature and a further unnatural chill snuck down spines. Brontos was a patron of war and necessity. Like Walid, his power was meant to ignite passion and adrenaline. Walid carried his spirit well. Jormand’r was a patrol for servility and surrender. He did not use an iron fist and instead slithered in feeding on wants and desires while slowly soaking up any will you had left. Ice serpent or not, it was more like soaking in lukewarm water. If you moved you would feel the uncomfortable cold and be victim to the freeze, but if you stayed perfectly still, if you gave up that will, then you could stay like that without suffering. You’d freeze and die without knowing. Bytautus was a patron of woe. They had no other purpose, no side hustle. It was just woe. Some added misery, others added distress. That’s the air it gave. Like Brontos it invoked emotion that could be more volatile than helpful. Fight or flight, live or die. It froze up the battlefield and if you did not move, you would die or freeze. You could fall into woe, and waste away into nothing, or you could lash out against it before it was too late. Until it was too late. They were two sides of the same coin in that respect, but Bytautus was always the child. They were always the one still forming, still fighting with every little thing as if done in by their own element. They did not sit at the table of patrons to even be cast out, and yet, in all the misery the gods left Zaun to soak in, Bytautus had grown strong. The ground froze where Samara once stood, a burst of speed moving her figure down and around that invasive loop. Still the stave swung, adapting to her movements with a much more fluid set of motions to spin up against the blade to push it off target with an almost gravitational pull. Riya landed, placing some distance between them as was needed for a long ranged weapon, but not so much as to make dodging easier. The versatility of such a weapon was always dangerous. Even if she dodged around it, a flick of Riya’s wrist could whip it back. Dark energy pushed behind her, and she shot forward, running past the coil as she ducked low, and pushed the two women close together before the whip demanded it. Her stave was pulled behind her, and it stabbed forward as Riya moved to make the blunt strike, crashing into her shoulder before it could make its full and decisive swing. ”Everything,” she said softly, her voice changed before that energy faded a bit. ”And nothing.”The gauntlet rose and this time she stood her ground, prepared to face the wicked weapon. She lifted her own hand out to face it, but it didn’t come. Instead it was an energy construct. The result was the same however. It did not reach her, stopping just an inch before her closed fist before the ring was thrown back at Riya with a wicked force. Not waiting for a reply, or even a reaction she lunged forward again, only to step past Riya so her lips could be close to her ear. ”Isn’t that right?”It was barely a whisper, maybe not even a sound at all, but from it came a high pitched howl that fed right into her ear and mind. Samara pressed forward, sliding behind the other woman then placed the staff into the dirt between them. A icy mist was created and she stepped back into it, vanishing from sight.

The atmosphere changed around Namek itself, as it should when two Zaunite powers began to activate in tandem with each other. This was especially so when both powers were this compatible. Jormand’r heard his name called and from a voice that he had forgotten about. The octave of that voice was fresh again and sent chills into his metaphysical form and it caused a stir in Riya herself as she landed. She nearly slipped, but Riya pressed on. Samara moved with ease to escape her attack and parried her strike. When Riya struck again, Samara dashed forward to avoid the coiling and trapping of her whip. With Samara so close to her, Riya could not get a full swing and Samara crashed into her shoulder. Out of reflex, an explosion of ice attacked Samara on that impact, and the shield that was still around Riya cracked further than it did before. This caused Riya to winced both audibly and visually. That maneuver most likely was the cause of why her ring came out lacking force and giving Samara the edge on swinging it back at Riya. Riya popped her chest out at her attack that was sent back and allowed it to return home safely into her energy pool. The power burst from Samara began to fade away, but she answered Riya’s question….damn near perfectly. For some reason Riya understood it. To be everything and then nothing. They were both of the same violation of the light world. There was no doubt, that Samara was housing a patron now, and it was one that she could relate to as a dark spot in this world full of light. Riya, herself, could not tell who it was and what realm of emotion they conquered, but Jormand’r knew all too well.“Byta…” Who?Riya almost found herself blushing at how close Samara had gotten to her, but she did not forget that this was a battle. The sound began to intensify near her ear, and Riya swung her body to the side and pushed away from Samara before the sound scaled loud enough to break her ear drums. Even so, she could hear just how deadly that sound could have been despite her avoidance. Jormand’r could be heard in Riya’s head mumbling and grumbling in a state of surprise and the feelings which he fed to Riya also showed interest and excitement.Excitement was something different in this type of situation. He normally only got excited when she decided to fulfill his quota for will power, but this was not a quota battle. She had yet to tap into the will of Samara. How strange. As Samara stabbed the staff into the dirt and proceed to create an icy mist to retreat to, Riya would not allow such an interesting person to fade away from her grasp. Her left hand shot forward and a combination of compressed air and countless strings rushed out to not only blow away the smoke, but to also entangle Samara and keep her still for a quick moment. With a quick step, Riya hopped closer to the woman and with the same hand tried to grab her by the neck and slam her to the ground. If she grabbed her, that is when Riya would attempt to taste Samara’s power and gauge the level of her will and her desires. But why stop there? A pulse of ice would explode from her gauntlet as well to try and hold her even stiller. “You….are an Avatar??” There was a dribble of confusion coming from her voice. “But I could not sense you. Jormand’r could not sense you.”Fate had its way of just being strange.

Not gonna be too fancy with the formatting cause I'm tired af right now
Damage Report
Samara - 95%
Block vs Ki Slash [DR4]
Slice [DR3.5]
Riya - 97%
Cripple DR [3.5] [-60% DMG]
Notes - You're both seasoned vets and know what you're doing and don't half-ass your posts in relation to your actions, so I was very forgiving on the damage as a whole.
---
RP Bonus -
So, personally, I hate it when a ref says in a battle "wow look at the battle mechanics this person has" because to me that has nothing to do with an RP bonus but I just have to say that you two really know what you're doing. Plain and simple. If anyone wants to learn how to battle at a higher level, they should pay close attention to your posts and how you both utilize your RPs to help you out mechanically.
With that said, you two are also good at playing off of each other. Which is a gift and a curse and why I didn't split this report into two parts.
It's a gift because everything flows well and it's a great read, but it's a curse because it can also stifle you both as it levels the playing field so to speak. I say that because overall, I generally enjoy Riya's RP style a bit more. That is, when he actually gives a damn. However, Samara is no slouch either and usually all it takes is one good line to do it for me because Samara is good at invoking thought through memorable quotes (though sometimes it can come off as cheesy too).
Rarely I can say that one post can win someone the RP Award, but....that third post by Samara was beautiful. Narratively, battle wise, the flow of it all, it was just really damn good. Like, really, really good. And Riya didn't respond with a post on that level.
That line itself was pretty poignant to me, because it connected with Samara's abilities, her approach to the battle in terms of her counter attack, and it was as if that line itself initiated a "light switch" if you will.
Though Riya did a good job RPing the energy net vs the smoke bomb because even though it's a "legit" reversal at least you acknowledged that the technique could be used in a manner to dissipate the smoke so it wasn't a tacky action add-on for mechanical purposes, which is something I completely despise as a whole and would have ruled it ineffective if the RP was subpar.
Also Riya's second post was pretty good itself, and I loved her quips when she said "Nice" and "Very nice," as it came off as a natural reaction and I've barely even read anything about the character to know how natural of a reaction it is - which is a great example of good characterization.
However, overall, I'd have to give the RP Bonus to Samara.
Keep up the good work guys and if I missed anything please DM me cause yea it's like 1 AM and I'm tired.
Fight on.

The amount of shattered ice had begun to litter the dying grass with something almost like patches of stubborn snow, and still they added more spray as Samara’s icy weapon smashed into more ice that tried to lick up her arms. This wasn’t the first time she had fought someone this intune with her element either, but Riya’s fighting style was unique. Samara didn’t completely know what to expect and all she could do was control her own body temperature to avoid being bogged down. Even that would become more challenging as the fight went on. The other avatar jerked away from her rush, only to dive back in again. The mist was blown away by pure force, showing the other woman her face--and the smile resting upon it. The net clashed into that invisible barrier once more and bounced back at the reaching woman. Unlike before the ki dissipated under the force of the action, but she didn’t wait for that, jumping backwards as if the power of the reflection threw her back as well. She put enough distance between them so the first grasp missed, though it would have grazed her nose had Riya aimed higher. She kept her pace backward, having shifted into a classic fencing position to use a simple but effective reverse cross-step. The gauntlet erupted and she sliced her stave through the air as if it were a sabre. A vertical slash broke through it and once more ice exploded across the battlefield. Some rained down upon her but she kept her pose. ”He will see through your pointless facade,” the deity said quietly in Samara’s mind. Were the words different she might have rolled her eyes as she could feel the spitefulness in it due to her having pulled them back again. Byta wanted to run free. They wanted to push Jormand’r out and make him use his little avatar properly, into destruction. But the words hit her as a strange feeling came to surface, and she remembered what Bytautus had told her about the Patron of Servility. He worked off of desires. He would sense them, exaggerate them, and then eat them whole. Desire. Surely, she had some--but even as she thought that, she knew it was a lie, and Jormand’r would find no desire in her, not a single drop. It wouldn’t make sense to Riya of course. She had seen Samara be cross with her, worry over the impression she made, show conviction in her quest to help Zaun, and even a cheery hope for this very fight. She wanted to save Zaun didn’t she? She wanted success and fulfilment on her goals, didn’t she? The facade Byta spoke of was the act Samara put out for ease of living. She showed happiness when she thought she should show happiness, not because she felt it. It was the same with most emotions. She had learned that such an act made interaction easier, and thought little else of it. Few people saw through her, but now Riya would, wouldn’t she? There was no want for Jormand’r to trigger into will, because will was all there was. If she couldn’t feel or care about things, then her existence was only proven by her actions and decisions. Her will carried her through life without needing a spark. She decided something using fact or theory, whim or assumption, and she followed through simply to follow through. She wasn’t a whole person, and he would have difficulty sapping her of all she was. Her will was ironclad and almost unending. But she didn’t know that, and thus refused to give Riya more time to activate her power in full. She knew what she was capable of inspiring and had no interest in becoming a victim of surrender. She pulled the ice staff inwards than slashed it out once more. A slab of icy ki spun out from the slice towards Riya. It moved as if it had the scent of her, jerking to follow her movements. Her staff turned to the third namekian sun after, catching its rays before she turned it upon Riya. The fierce sun illuminated her face and eyes before overcoming her entirely. It burned out the ice so the muscles could become slack and heavy from tension released. What to say? It wasn’t as if Riya knew her for long to be upset she had been lied to as some who came to confront her later. She wasn’t sure why neither avatar could sense her divine right, but the shape shifting god inside her only smiled wider for an answer. ”I told you I was an avatar when we met,” she decided on. ”I just didn’t say of what.”She was pretty sure Jormand’r was being just as forthcoming as Bytautus, so such an answer would probably not be satisfying.

Riya missed her by a fraction of space and she sucked her teeth, but the question was still something she asked in her miss. Samara dealt with her array of techniques rather well, and it left Riya impressed.
Jormand’r, are you going to fill me in or nah?
Heh… Nah.
Riya rolled her eyes in annoyance, but it was a familiar annoyance to her. When he got like this, it meant that this was a part of his life that he needed to keep hidden from her and those prying questions she’d ask of him. It only made her more peeved knowing that. Samara also gave her a reason to be miffed.
She avoided her touch and it was as if she knew what it meant. Riya wanted to grab her and take hold of Samara’s desires. The Avatar of Servility could understand her far more than she understood herself, or so Riya thought. What was Samara afraid of? What desire did she want to hide?
Space was put between them again and again, Samara accomplishing her goal of getting away from Riya. With a swing of her staff a disk of ice came spiraling toward her and pulled the paladin warrior’s focus. She knew what to do with it, and chose not to run, but to hold her sword out for a special block, one that would soak the ice up into her form and rejuvenate her body. Once it did so, Riya looked back up only to see a blinding flash of light cloud her vision.
Only experience stopped her from completely freaking out, though she still stumbled about to gather her footing again. “Touche,” Riya said with her eyes shut and before Samara spoke. It was true that she called herself an Avatar of Zaun but….
“I did not believe you. You are the first and only Avatar I have failed to sense. I did not know there was a technique to disconnect you from the God Realm as such. It would have been such a nice technique to know.”
“Yes it definitely would have. I wish an old friend would have taught me as well,” Jormand’r hissed into the mental realm that was forming between the four of them. Riya took in his words as an indication that Jormand’r definitely knew who this was. Good. The truth will come to light soon enough.
Riya, hunched over slightly and her teeth gritted all before a massive puff of smoke exploded around her body. When the smoke cleared there were three tinier versions of Riya, the probably stood no more than 3 feet tall. One of them swiped the gauntlet which pushed out a valve of liquid that she quickly ingested.
“So what Avatar are you of then,” another asked with their voice a bit more high pitch than usual. Samara seemed to be trying to at-least give Riya information, but the woman was also a riddle box. Riya definitely hated riddles, but if she had to play… then she would just have to play. What would make this easier is if she could just get a hold of the woman.
Maybe three small people would make it difficult for her to follow. Two of them rushed at her with one focusing on her blade and the other focusing on her whip. The sword user exploded with speed to try and get to Samara first, her blade setting fire with energy. Raising her sword high into the air, she came down with a quick and heavy vertical slash. The whip user smacked the ground with a slinging motion to lengthen the coil and fed energy into the rope, which made it vibrate violently. The first swing from the whip sent the coil toward Samara’s legs, aiming to cut through her armor. She then would halt to a sliding stop and swing the whip back and forth 5 times, cloaking the coil with sporadic and thorn shaped energy that would be sure to prick and cut Samara into pieces if she stood there.

”Maybe your senses have simply dulled,” Bytautus quipped in turn. ”Has it really been such an issue?” Samara asked more curiously. People sensing Bytuatus hadn’t brought her too much trouble. Sometimes when they recognized who exactly the god was things could go bad. Maybe that was the problem. Jormand’r was an exile. Hiding who he was from the other deities who meant to lock him away would probably be an asset, but for some reason Samara didn’t expect them to have that much built up experience with other Zaunites. Maybe it was because Jormand’r was an exile and she was just making assumptions. Despite the conversation, it was still a battle and she slid back into a stance more suitable for her stave, switching to defence as she knew what was coming—or she thought she did. Seeing Riya split into chibi versions of herself was not what she expected at all. Riya was already tiny, and now it was like fighting small children. They were weaker too, seemingly evenly split and her mind began churning. Two rushed at her, but now their speed was cut drastically and the sharpness of their movements were dulled. That didn’t disrupt the difficulty of a two versus one however, which was shown clearly soon enough. Midget one shot forward with sudden speed and Samara matched it, kicking hard off the ground with another push of ki to move back and slide around—only to be caught by the more versatile and less predictable whip. Luckily Riya wasn’t aiming to tangle her this time as the naturally low strike snapped across her leg like a swiftly dragged dagger. A wince escaped her as she pulled her leg backwards and elongated the icy staff, quickly moving it into a fast spin. The next strike crashed against the ice but again the whip was fluid and could slip through the smallest of cracks. She repelled it for the most part, slice after slice, crack after crack, but it still snuck through to bite at her until she was forced to flee backwards once more before midget one or two could take advantage of the onslaught. She was weaker though. The strength behind these attacks were not nearly as potent. The speed was lacking. Even as Riya tried to overwhelm her, once that failed they were left vulnerable in their weakness. Samara’s fighting style was aggressive not because she was overly passionate. It wasn’t fed on anger, fear, or joy. It was a habit build upon the logic that controlled her early life. Aggression won battles. She had no sense of mercy. She functioned on a clear cut understanding of what would bring victory. This might not be it, but it was the step she could not overlook. Her foot planted and her aura flared up that icy white. A new sphere formed in her hand before it shot high into the air. Like a burst of lightning it split open and huge chunks of ice began to rain down—only that was only appropriate due to their number. They didn’t fall with the soft weight of gravity. They shot down like rockets at top speed crashing down almost as soon as they could be seen. The sky blurred from their movements with white and blue, like its own temporary aurora. They crashed down upon the three split avatars and exploded with sharp icy shrapnel and a freezing liquid that burst out like flame. When they hit a target they exploded with enough force to tear apart Namek with a sense of pure destructive armageddon. But it didn’t stop there. Bytautus gripped her, taking advantage of her rising power and forced concentration and taking control. Rising higher, sure to stay above the trio, the sphere pulsed with even more power as Samara’s, or Byta’s hand reached towards it. Then the storm truly began, trying to sweep her away at the highest of speeds. ”I am the Avatar of Woe,” she said quietly in a stained voice, as if her actions hadn’t brought enough of it to Namek already. ”Miss Crain…Mom…” a voice said, caught in the wind of the storm. It was becoming more and more powerful, attempting to lock all three of her inside it, but that voice would cut through it like there was silence. Bamidele was in there, caught under a huge chunk of ice. There was no possible way for him to be there, and yet logic was swept away. They weren’t on Namek, they were on Zaun, and he was here, swept up in the war Samara had promised, injured and dying. Wise as he had always been, he did not seem to panic, but called to her knowing his end was near. He had a face that wished to comfort her, but needing her for perhaps the first time she could actually provide something for him. It caught Jormand’r too. The feeling swept over him and first he would feel a complete disconnect from Riya. She was something like his solace. She had accepted him and changed him but now she was gone. They were ripped apart as the god realm mutilated their bond and pushed him down, trying to lock him away for his crimes and doing who knows what to her, who had been his accomplice. Even if he could accept his own damnation, could he accept hers? But the illusion was thick, and would force him to lash out. Bytautus could not afford him calming her. The storm carried, but the snow began to melt until it was wind ripping through skin, and the water became boiling against her cold demeanor. For the ones that could not reach Bamidele, they would hear him cry for her. To reach him would force her to release her own guard and push through, to sacrifice everything in order to get to him. If she did reach him without dying herself he would smile to her, trying to take her hand as hopelessness gripped and tore. It ripped at all three of her subconsciousness, and the world itself tried to rip her apart. Even Bamidele would serve for her destruction, dragging her in and holding her there so she could not move or fight, seemingly innocently unaware he was actually killing her. The physical effects could only last so long however, as Samara’s hand dropped and touched her own head. She could hear the same voice, changed as it had, yet still very familiar, and she wrestled control back from the dangerous god and the storm began to still.

“That is likely,” Jormand’r bit back. “As all have abandoned me, I have abandoned all.”“Yes, isn’t it obvious,” one of the miniature Riya’s cracked. Samara maneuvered around her attacks, with the whip still catching a foot and weaving about her defense just like the snake it was. Many people that fought her easily found that her triple form made her weaker, and leaned toward a numbers game over a power struggle. Riya knew this herself and after their attack they would always double back to make a triangular formation, which they did at first. When Samara’s aura flared up in a cool white and the sphere formed in her hand, all three of them watched to see exactly where the energy orb would go. Surely, if it was just a single orb, then dodging it would be of no issue. When it shot up into the air, all three of them made the split second decision to dash in three separate directions, to split Samara’s focus and ensure that the best way to hit them would be for the attack to have no true aim…. It would need to just fall at its own accord.Which it indeed did. All three of them dashed to separate ends of the battlefield and dove into the water, feet kicking to propel them deep into the river’s grasp of darkness. Chunks of ice crashed into the river, freezing their way down toward each of them, but the water’s density would surely slow their decent and leave behind a trail of ice which floated toward the top of the body of water. With a burst of power and speed, the trio of midget Riyas circled around the water much like how a school of fish would scatter, and utilized both the river and the lack of focus on Samara’s target to avoid the storm. But then something pulled at the three of them… no four if you counted Jormand’r. It was a feeling of misery and there was a sudden rush of an unexplained vision that began to form. Riya’s vision was clouding out and she could hear the distant words of Jormand’r as they grew more and more quiet.“Woe and Misery – that is Byta’s--” were the last words Riya heard before she could see herself rising from the water and seeing her son, Bamidele, trapped under a massive piece of ice.“Bamidele!” Riya’s voice cracked with both panic and confusion as she began to swim with all of her might back toward land, chunks of ice raining around her as she desperately attempted to weave around them. How the hell did he get here? Did he follow m--But then that is when Riya was able to take a better look around her. This did not look like the mostly ocean world of Namek anymore. This looked more like a place she hadn’t seen properly in years. The feeling…This wasn’t real. The feelings of woe were attacking her heart and making her panic and even Jormand’r seemed to be disconnected while she was like this. In the mental realm:Jormand’r was suspended in the air with seemingly powerful rays of crimson power restraining him. It was enough to make him panic. It could have been enough to make him lash out. Byta was trying to prevent him from calming her down. But instead of lashing out or panicking, Jormand’r calmly remained restrained. “You think you are so clever.”Jormand’r closed his eyes. “But there is a reason I have chosen this particular person to be my Avatar. If you believe she needs me to remain calm, then you have wasted your resources.”Jormand’r did not choose to fight the illusion, simply because….“Riya serves no one. The Avatar of Servility, bows to no one…”Back on Namek:I have the Will of Thousands. All three Riya’s eyes changed from their average brown to an amalgamation of ugly colors.Oranges. Browns. Greens. Yellows. They snapped out of the vision. Jormand’r snap out of it. She thought, feeding will directly to her partner. The Avatar of Servility was filled with the wills of thousands that she had collected over the years, and her ability to exchange that will for desire began to clash with the feelings of misery and woe. The clash of emotional energy would smash into each other and explode outward into the world of Namek, sending both Namekian warriors and Damaskian soldiers into mad panic. Misery.
Desire.
Sorrow.
Arousal. It all attacked them, and then as they built up the will to resist it, it all sapped away and was brought to Riya like the leech she was. This ended the storm, and the three midget jumped from the water, the sky clearing to display the three suns. All three Riyas landed on the ground and they were breathing heavily. Only a little of that was from holding her breath, the rest of her hard breathing was at the battle of realms she had in order to overcome the sudden attack of woe. Then a mixture of feelings began to build up in Riya. That was her son in the vision. Hurt. Dying. Meeting the end. Surely, Riya was competent enough to know that the power reached into her own subconscious and it was not a projection from Samara’s own will.It couldn’t have been, as Riya had never discussed Bamidele around Samara and she would not know how he looked. But that did not sway her from getting infuriated. “That wasn’t nice,” she spat with a bit of seething venom from her words. It sounded a bit silly coming from the child like Riya, but nonetheless there was danger spilling from her mouth. Water was dripping from each of them as they dashed at Samara. They each took swings with their swords. One swung twice like a cross.Another brought a diagonal swing from the lower hip to her shoulder, like before. The last one performed another diagonal swing, but from the opposite end of her hip. This one had a pattern of peppering explosions which were meant to, like before, to seal up any wounds that Samara may have gathered during the fight, but in a painful way. After the attacks, the three midgets would merge into one normal Riya by landing and spinning into each other.Much like play dough, they would smash and mold, growing into a singular being. “You make me question whether we are allies or not...”Riya felt that dangers of the power and she took note of how easy it was for Samara to take advantage of Riya during one of her more weaker moments. Eyes of sickness stared at Samara“Avatar of Woe.”

”Silly,” Bytautus replied in a velvet voice to Jormand’r’s insult and claims. They were a shape shifting god, molding into whatever drew fear, but they would show themselves to him now in the form he knew best. It was that of a woman, dangerously close in appearance to Samara transformed, with horns twisting from her hair. She floated partially above him and reached out as if to touch his face. ”I don’t need her to bow to take my fill.”
It would probably be clear to him then what the true intention of the other god was. It wasn’t meant to make Riya fall. She was merely testing the waters to see how she could be provoked. The anger that had sunk into the avatar’s bones was just another response to Btya’s power and she loved it. She didn’t care if Samara fell victim to her blade, though like Jormand’r she had a little faith in her avatar’s abilities.
Samara was a survivor. She had to be to handle the patron of woe.
Even as the Zaunite pulled Bytautus’ power back, coming back to her own, the deity refused to release Jormand’r, taking even more pleasure as she heard Riya’s demand. Maybe he would not worry for her, but it seemed she would worry for him, as was warranted.
The trio of provoked avatars launched at Samara in retribution, and the blue haired Zaunite grit her teeth in preparation. This was always how it went. Well, not always. Sometimes people bowed, but more often Byta’s effect brought on the fight in people. It was unpleasant and dangerous and Samara knew this time especially the deity had not tried very hard to sway Riya as the other avatar did now to the people on Namek. They could force such a feeling deeper down her throat but the god wanted to provoke it. They wanted to see the struggle in real time with a more natural reaction.
So gross.
The blades clashed with her body and staff as she manned the best defence she could in a weakened state. Riya merged back, seeing the flaw in her design. Kalime would lecture her again. She had started things aggressively and Bytautus took advantage. She could already hear the Avatar of Wisdom’s crass voice, like the conscience she did not possess within herself.
The venom did not leave Riya’s voice. The look in her eyes was one Samara knew well. Even before becoming the avatar of this destructive element, those eyes were all she saw.
”Bytautus...isn’t exactly a fan of me having allies,” she replied with a wry smile that was littered with her exhaustion.
”But I think it’s better an ally understands my power and my position,” she said as she lifted the stave up, released it, then caught the edges in both hands to compact it inwards until the staff turned into nothing.
”Lest it come out at a less opportune moment,” she continued in her explanation. This was why she wanted to fight. Even if it went a bit out of her hands, this was what Riya needed to see. ”I’d like to talk now if that’s okay with you.”

Byta would and could form into something that could instill fear into their victim, and this form had its way. Jormand’r frowned at the form she took on. Riya had escaped the illusion, which was something he expected…
He did not expect himself to escape at all, because down in the depths of his soul he wanted to see her again. Byta would want to feed on his misery and she would know that showing herself in this form would no doubt bring it forth, and Jormand wanted to see if the misery would and could hold itself back.
Did he really gain enough will power to overcome his greatest misery? “Your beauty is as sickening as I remember,” he spat out in the strangest insult one could muster up. But the misery was starting to spill from him almost as easy as his breathing was… and he knew she enjoyed it.
What was more satisfying than breaking the will of a beast that absorbed it freely? It was a no contest or confusion to why Byta would like Jormand best of all gods. At first glance one would think of Brontos or someone else as a rival to Jormand, which would be an easy guess.
But what was his weakness? Who was he the most compatible with? What god would truly bring him to his knees and keep him as their pet?
Still, as Byta fed on his misery, fulfilling her desires, Jormand fed on her will. Soon both would just come to a stop, both being full off each other’s emotions and empty of what was drained.
Byta would have no more will to take his misery...and he would be too miserable to want to take her will. But they could not stop taking from each other because they both gave of such strong and succulent emotions of those types. The things Byta did to install intense misery at the sight of this form made sure of it.
