Hello ADBZ! As new members join the site and our numbers grow, I thought it would be a good idea to open up the staff applications again. This doesn't mean we're necessarily looking for staff, but that when that time does come, we will reach out to you first if you are a match. Additionally, as some staff become inactive, we may lean on you as an alternate/backup position, so don't be discouraged if a spot you are interested in is not currently open! Please do note, however, that applications are only accepted for "entry level" spots. That is- spots are open only for RP Guides and Monitors.
Please see a list of staff positions below. For the sake of the RP Guide positions, I've also listed some of the major organizations at the bottom of this post. I have not listed if they are currently open or not due to the explanation at the beginning of my post. Some spots may be further recognized, giving the custom title "Senior." Such as "Sr Column Monitor." You may also apply for a RP Guide position for an organization that is not listed below- those are only examples.
Roleplay Guide:
A Roleplay Guide is responsible for content creation to represent the organization's goal as dictated by the main site. They directly report to the Director of Lore. They may elect to host Guided Roleplays to engage with members of the community by advertising it on the Challenges and Recruiting board. These roleplays can be about anything, but should build something up relating to the organization you're affiliated with. It should explore the world, the flora and fauna, the politics and society, the culture and religion, etc. Your job is to build and expand upon your organization's lore with other people. The RP Guide is responsible for narrative flow, creating the scenario and setting in which the roleplay takes place, maintaining the pace and providing dynamic feedback to the players. Rules and rewards must be followed, though these can be done as many times as desired and permission is not needed. RP Guides are essential to maintaining site lore by providing content.
Column Monitor:
A Column Monitor is responsible for managing their assigned column. They directly report to the Director of Claims. They should approve updates weekly, communicate announcements, and lock updates that are approved. They should also enforce rules and escalate concerns accordingly. Column Monitors are essential to maintaining site operations by performing day-to-day staff actions.
Maintenance Monitor:
A Maintenance Monitor is responsible for the upkeep of the site. They directly report to the Director of Staff. They are responsible for compiling the Top 25 monthly, composing the “On the Bubble” thread which details members who are inactive monthly, and assisting with data collection upon request (such as putting together a list of quests on Earth, etc.) Maintenance Monitors are essential to maintaining site balance by providing important data.
Director of Claims:
A Director of Claims manages site operations. They are directly reported to by the Monitors and they moderate OOC threads. Responsibilities include assisting monitor questions and concerns, processing RP claims, delegating tasks to the monitors, and enforcing rules as dictated by the site. They assist in moderating custom techniques and items by providing helpful insight and ensuring the techniques/items fit OOC. (The desire to create a custom stems from an effect the player wants. Be it negating damage, dealing damage, inflicting a Critical Effect, etc. The effects cannot break rules or guidelines.)
Director of Lore:
A Director of Lore manages site lore. They are directly reported to by the RP Guides and they moderate IC threads. Responsibilities include assisting RP Guide questions and concerns, event management, delegating tasks to the RP Guides, and enforcing lore as dictated by the site. They assist in moderating custom techniques and items by providing helpful insight and ensuring the techniques/items fit IC. (Communicating function via the name and description. Having a good name/description eases battles. If a player's opponent can apply outside knowledge to implicitly understand how to deal with a technique, the battle's complexity goes down.)
Director of Staff:
A Director of Staff manages site health. They are directly reported to by the Moderators and they moderate site and discord functions. Responsibilities include ensuring data integrity, maintaining data cleanup, delegating tasks to the Moderators, and enforcing balance as dictated by the site. They are also responsible for managing staff. They are responsible for moderating custom techniques and items and ensuring the techniques/items fit balance. (Prioritizes function over flavor. This isn't to say function is more important than flavor, but that function is less flexible than flavor. In the functionality of game balance, there is a single best answer. For flavor, there are many answers. Thus, when the two butt heads, the more flexible item needs to give in to the less flexible. In this case, the flavor needs to be written to cushion the function and not vice versa. The effects must fit into the site's system of balance.)
Saiyan Empire:
The Saiyans were originally from another planet, but after a disaster, they flew to Planet Plant. They were nomadic and scattered into clans until the first King Vegeta united their banner, conquering the native Tuffles and renaming the planet to Vegeta. Commanding the stolen technology of the tuffles, they took to the stars to gather resources from other planets. Throughout time, the Saiyans became a force to be reckoned with. They were viewed as mercenaries for hire. Requiring more resources to sustain their battle-hungry population, they took over Valhalla and a few other planets to trade with other groups of people. They are ruled by their King and have a feudal society based on military rank. In everything they do, they seek to test and surpass their limits, often leaving death and destruction in their wake.
Avalon Protectorate:
The Protectorate is a republic with each world ruling itself. Upon seeing the atrocities committed by the Saiyan Empire and the rising power levels of the universe, the docile Avalanians steeled their resolve and swore to protect the weak. They act as mentors and protectors to the people of Earth, Namek, and Kanassa as well as many other worlds. Each planet is allowed a seat on the Protectorate's senate. This desire to protect the freedom of the universe came at a great cost- their technology is so advanced that it's highly coveted by many worlds, yet the development of this technology has destroyed the environment. What once was lush green is now a cold desert. Still, the Paladins of Avalon hope to use this technology to protect the freedom of the universe.
Damaskian Shadowguard:
Over 200 years ago, a group of Avalanians had a different answer to the rising threat of the Saiyans. They believed in Manifest Destiny; that the expansion of the Avalanians was both justified and inevitable. Their beliefs were seen as the delusions of warmongering tyrants, and they were forcibly expelled from Avalon. After trying to settle on countless worlds, they eventually found Damaskia. It was not a pretty planet, but it's trove of minerals made it their home. They have dark hair with silver eyes, breeding the white hair of Avalon out of their population entirely. They are seen as imperialistic and industrial, with their capital City being thousands of miles wide and their skyscrapers reaching the heavens. It is the safest planet in the universe, with police constantly monitoring the streets. That is... if you are a native. Damaskians are incredibly xenophobic. They are ruled by their Emperor as well as various cabinets of advisors. They still have their eyes set on their original goal of expansion.
Planetary Trade Organization:
The PTO has always been a top player in the universe due to the power of the Changelings. They are apex predators of the universe with the highest naturally-occurring power levels. The ability to transform and survive in space are a testament to this reverence. Besides the Changelings, there is an assortment of alien races that make up the PTO. They conquer planets to bolster their trade empire and auction them off to the highest bidder, keeping the best planets for themselves. While the assorted aliens are considered weak, they are equipped with technological accessories such as scouters, healing tanks, blasters, and space ships. The technology and numbers make up for their lack of power. They are ruled by Lord Frost, the Changeling that united the clans, as well as the Frost Clan. Despite their strength, their goal has always been profit and control.
Keliouxian Scholars:
Originally, the Keliouxians were much like the Changelings. They were obsessed with decadence and riches. Upon seeing their home world's annihilation, they took it as a sign to change their ways. They settled on the world of Kayren, the capital world of the ancient civilization of the Lost. It was destroyed thousands of years ago by meteor storms. Given a new chance, they surrounded themselves with knowledge to master the world around them, refusing to see this new home world destroyed. They terraformed it until life flourished. They are ruled by a council of Elders chosen not by might or blood, but by knowledge. Their leader is the Grandmaster Adel. Adel has recently opened the Keliouxian Empire onto the stage of the universe through trade and with the support of their biggest ally, the Avalon Protectorate. Their goal is to perfect their terraforming technology and restore the glory of the Lost civilization.
As a final note, I wanted to give an example of what interaction between staff may look like to give a better idea of what to expect.
Director of Staff: They may reach out to the Director of Lore, mentioning that we need an event either in general or for a certain aspect.
Director of Lore: They would reach out accordingly to the RP Guides and work with them.
RP Guide: They would work with the Director of Lore and suggest ideas.
Director of Lore: They would ensure the ideas reflect the goals of the organization, giving approval to run an Official Event.
RP Guide: They would work with the Director of Lore on custom rewards for the Official Event.
Director of Lore: They would approve, reject, or develop the original ideas brought forth by the RP Guide, or suggest their own.
Director of Staff: They would give the final approval for custom rewards.
This request may have been in the reverse order as well, originally coming from the RP Guides' desire to run an official event. Note: RP Guides do not need permission to run Guided Roleplays. Only official events.
As you may have noticed, the staff team is like branches of a tree. There are two sides- OOC and IC. The Director of Lore and the RP Guides operate on the IC side of things, while the monitors and Director of Claims operate on the OOC side of things. It's a lot of back and forth, so teamwork and respect is a must and is the most important part of the job!
