Even with the barrage of attacks from his staff, the Steel Queen barely moved, and she did not fall to the crushing force of his assault. Not only withstanding it but demanding more from the boy. It reminded him of his spars with Hayami and Beerus, simply brushing off his best offensive efforts and pressing for a greater showing of power. However, unlike those spars, they were outside the astral realm where he'd wake up in his bed. And Aria showed to be far less amiable and merciful than those too. She shot another thin beam at his shoulder, feeling the drop from his earlier burst of vigor she was too tired to move to evade or brace himself against it. Joseph grunted and stumbled back as it pierced and drilled a hole into his shoulder.
Aria continued speaking, telling him that he wasn’t fighting to win but fighting to survive and expressing the waning of her patience, telling him the longer this goes on, the less of an option survival will be for him before making a final demand for his surrender and weaponizing the ground they stood on yet again, he tried to jump away from the masses of rubble but could not jump quickly or high enough to escape it. The rocks pressed against him from all sides of his aching body and forced him back down to the ground, struggling and pressing against them to no avail. It became dark and hard to breathe.
After her telekinetic hold on them was released, he finally managed to push the rocks away from himself, only to have his shoulder brutalized again when he emerged from the rubble. The hole she drilled in his shoulder got deeper. The child stumbled forward, holding his wounded shoulder, hunched forward as his body was succumbing to pain and lethargy. He looked at the ground and coughed up a puddle of blood before looking towards the steel queen, reflecting on her demand to give up.
He didn’t care for the phrase nor the concept that it defined. The boy especially abhorred that he was considering doing so. It pained him, and it felt disparaging when faced with enemies such as Recoome or Broly. He was never given that option. He wouldn’t be alive now if they could’ve helped it. She made it clear she would end him, and if she changed her mind about that, he was sure that being in her hands wouldn’t be much better. He was convinced that she could think of things worse than death. He stood quiet and thought for a moment. He hated the thought of conceding, but he also loved living.
He took a breath as the ends of his bangs descended, and his hair slowly turned from brilliant gold back to black, and his pupils changed from their green to light brown. Joseph turned and walked away without words to leave the Steel Queen and the battlefield.
