It was bigger than he imagined. Jared stood at the center of the stadium he'd been wanting to check out. The architecture was marvelous by his standards. It reminded him of some ancient ruins he saw pictures of in his father's scrapbook. But this was brand new and could easily be noticed that it was well cared for. For the time being it was set up for gladiator matches it seemed. The arena terrain was entirely flat and felt like the soil itself. A battle here would get messy fairly quick. Jared couldn't help but smirk as he imagined himself in an epic showdown with some Goliath-type beast. In his mind he came out on top with the stadium a roar with applause and cheers for him. At the moment however it was vacant.
Jared, are you planning something with this? went Freed.
He seemed entirely confused about being in this particular location without warning. Jared looked to his right to see the spirit floating there, looking about. The boy gave an exasperated sigh and shook his head.
"Sometimes I think when you were a live person, you spent your life under a rock. Don't you ever think to explore something just 'cuz?"
I just figured it didn't hurt to ask. You know...just cuz' he replied then shrugged.
Jared growled at Freed's apparent sass back at him. I really gotta get this guy back to his body or something. Wait...
At that, particular moment he remembered an encounter with Aurkus who said, "His body? I burnt that a long time ago," That's when he grimaced and looked at Freed with a peripheral view.
Aurkus destroyed his body after sealing his spirit away. He wanted to be sure he'd never get it back. I forgot that. Jared looked away with a look of sadness, He's just a wandering spirit now and officially dead.
Jared? Freed went, having noticed the boy had spaced out.
"Huh?" He replied back looking to see the spirit's concerned expression.
I'm waiting for an answer. Do you have a plan behind being here?
I'll have to try and keep this in mind from now on. Maybe be nicer to him...!
He passed this thought on to fold his arms and huff. "Not that it's really any of your business, I wanted to see if the stadium arena would accommodate," he replied.
So much for that... he thought.
Freed simply raised an eyebrow, one that showed he easily required more information to follow. Jared once again sighed and said, "Riding duel practice,"
The spirit's eyes widened in his apparent surprise. Jared put on an excited grin, "Come on you remember what Ayumi said. They're getting popular on Damaskia. So I wanna go and try."
Ok that's fair. Only problem is the only bike you have to practice on is in your own head, Freed said pointing at his own head. Not quite the same as real life.
Jared shrugged, "Problems exist to be solved. So we'll just get back to the house and start building,"
He started walking away to find the exit. He was completely unaware of the person in the stadium seats. The figure, a rather shady looking man, stroked his chin and glared.
"That boy again. Who was he talking to?"
Jared and Freed exited the stadium. On foot they walked back toward the house. The general public seemed to not have a care in the world as they hustled about on their daily lives. Watching them made Jared realize he'd yet to try integrating into the local society. He'd mostly tried to keep his own powers hidden. This place had an element of magic and there was some dislike toward those who wielded it. The last thing he needed was to be discovered as a deity half-breed. So for now he did his best to appear normal, whatever that was defined as here.
It was just past the midpoint of the day. It would almost be time for lunch. But Jared's appetite hadn't surfaced yet. He was focused on getting to work on his newest project. He'd been able to build a gravity control on his own. He even made the duel disk system he built into his battle armor. A motor-powered bike for dueling shouldn't be a problem at all. Jared got back to the house. In the yard was a shed. He undid the lock on the door and opened it. Gardening tools and other unnamed bits and pieces spilled out of there when he did. Freed frowned upon the mess.
"Guess I need to clean up a little," Jared chuckled.
Freed simply rolled his eyes. Some time later, Jared managed to re-organize the shed with a little help from telekinesis. Here, using his powers was fairly safe with the concrete wall he built up around his yard.
"Now that that mess is all cleaned up time to look at my parts inventory a bit,"
Jared looked among several shelves toward the back of the shed. He seemed intense in his thoughts as the spirit looked on starting to get impatient.
Well? went Freed.
Jared scratched his head a little bit then turned around to the spirit. He grinned from ear to ear which looked promising until he said, "I don't have a single thing here that'll help me build one!"
The moment he said that, Freed fell on his back. Jared then stroked his chin a little bit, "So I guess we're just gonna have to go find something. Look sharp. We're gonna go scavenger hunting!"
Do you even have any ideas on what to look for? went Freed.
"Nope, but D-Wheels are just modified motorcycles for the sport! How hard can it be to find two wheels, a chassis, and a motor?"
One hour later...
A frustrated Jared was tugging at his hair, "I can't find this stuff anywhere! Gah this planet! It's like we're in a period of time that hasn't invented this stuff yet!"
Why not just go to Damaskia then? If this sort of thing is popular there, we simply just go there and get the parts! Or maybe just buy a D-Wheel since you don't have any idea how to build it, went Freed.
"Eh, if we go there Ayumi will sense me immediately and find me. Then that'll become something too," Then he growled and looked angrily at the spirit, "What do you mean I have no idea! I don't NEED to! I'm pretty good at picking things up on the fly, remember?"
Freed shook his head. Jared continued to pace back and forth before an idea came to him, "I got it!"
Somehow, I'm concerned, went Freed.
Jared started running off. Instead of building it, I'll find some magic wielder around here. Maybe they can materialize the one I use in the astral plain.
Freed simply followed him sighing a bit before going to catch up to him. Once again they failed to notice the shady figure that was watching them.
For a moment I was thinking he was thinking out loud. But he's clearly talking to someone. He's definitely not normal. I want to know more about who he is and who he's talking to, thought the unknown man as he started off to follow Jared.
