Another hard one. While the Materia System was easier to grasp, it required a lot of grinding to really unlock its potential. The story was a lot easier to follow and be invested in, and the characters were unique (for the most part).
The Draw System wasn't very intuitive (if easier to grind), the timed-hits mechanic was spotty at times, and the plot seemed... hard to follow, I suppose. I wasn't very invested in the characters, though some parts of the soundtrack were balling.
I'll essentially have to give my vote to FFVII, even though I feel that segment of Final Fantasy games has been overdone to death.

7 was my first real rpg and my intro into the series. there is nothing in that game i havent done. essentially if it had achievements, i got them all. 8 isnt far behind it either. of all the characters, Squall is the most like me (especially back then). Triple Triad remains my favorite mini game.

I prefered FF8, first of all because it was the first one I actually played and secondly because of the card-minigame which was like right at the start of when I was venturing out into pokemon tcg and MTG xD
