Rebel Child “I’m Kari, maybe you can show me a few more moves later. Just don’t let my dad know." -Kari
Those were the words that started a change for the pink-haired woman that she desperately wanted. Throughout her life, however short that was, she only had one person to act as her teacher. His style of fighting wasn’t what she wanted in life. He was too much a brute and didn’t concentrate on his next move nor whatever his opponent would do. Kari didn’t want to be a fighter like that. She wanted her movements to have a meaning behind them. After she watched the blue-haired woman fight, she had made up her mind about it. Still, she didn’t want her father to know about her motives, so she tried her best to hide that from him. As the time went by, she also got to know Bulma a little more and learned that she was connected with her family. She was still a little curious what was going on between the Avatar of War and that woman. The pair traveled from the planet that she had grown to call her home. As much as she didn’t want to leave, she knew that she needed to branch out her life so to speak. Experience new places rather than sticking to one area. To her, Avalon was only good to strengthen your fighting and while she liked that, maybe she might have liked to do something else instead. Regardless of that, she wanted to challenge the blue-haired woman to a fight. Since she didn’t know the area that well, she thought that the best place for that would have been inside of Walid’s newly upgraded spacecraft. As she walked into it, she rubbed her hands against the walls. It had more padding on them than she remembered. That would definitely help if someone were to go flying and smash into it. The pink-haired woman then noticed a rack of some kind that seemed to have weapons hooked onto it. “Why am I not surprised,” she commented on how it gave the room a ‘gladiator’ type feel. She then grabbed a small knife from it and remembered the first day that she trained with Walid. He told her that she needed to choose a weapon, but she still didn’t know that if she actually picked that out. He was coming at her with a flurry of attacks and she grabbed the weapon out of pure impulse. Either way, she had trained with it so picked it out from the bunch. “Alright,” she said as she stood across the room from the blue-haired woman, “I’m ready now.”Since she was the one who wanted to learn, it made more sense for her to wait and seek guidance. The pink-haired woman didn’t do that, instead she rushed towards her opponent head on like Walid would have done. It might have seemed like she didn’t have a plan, but she did. As soon as she zeroed in on her, she held the dagger in her left hand upside down and spun around. Once she made a complete turn, she’d use the momentum to strike at her opponent. Immediately after that, she swiped again in the opposite direction and then followed it with hopefully a sucker punch to Bulma’s face with her right fist. Kari would have probably felt bad, but she knew that she was fighting someone who was clearly trained. To finish off her assault, she swiped again with her dagger in the opposite direction. She hoped if anything to at least show that she could offer something to work with. Even if she was a bad fighter, even if she couldn’t win. Her goal was to at least show something. The request from Kari to train her was...Well, surprising wasn’t the right word. Walid had a very aggressive style that did not suit everyone. It made sense the girl would branch out, and Bulma was probably easier for her to ask then the Paladins Kari still seemed to have a little difficulty with. Not for the first time, Bulma wondered where Aria was. She didn’t expect the very selfish woman to jump into mom duties, but fighting was her specialty. She had learned from a person who was very important to her. If there was only one thing she wanted to teach her children, Bulma thought that would be it. Yan had given her a few updates, and explained to her his view on things now that he had a better read on the emotional gynoid. She didn’t think he was wrong, but she wasn’t sure how to feel about it either. At the end of the day, she was still not giving her children even the chance to mean something to her. Bulma supposed it was likely that Kari would bore Aria, especially if the energetic girl tried to get the android to mother her. A part of Bulma felt like Aria would only really accept her children once they accepted her not as their mother. Her coding went so very wrong somewhere along the way, or maybe it was in her very soul. But Kari choosing Bulma to teach her was still a small bit unexpected. The girl seemed to like her, clinging a bit to the motherly feeling that seemed to roll off of Bulma without her meaning it to. There was also the fact that Kari had seen her in action and might have appreciated what she saw, but Bulma was never much of a teacher. Perhaps that’s where the feeling came from. She just didn’t see herself in the position to teach anything. Her own training had likely been like Walid’s style, only even harsher. She learned within battle with lives on the line unless a skill was honed and perfected or used exactly right at the time needed. Her failures were punished with pain and suffering. Even Vegeta’s attempt to train her was still throwing her to the wolves. She did not want to mimic that style in anyway, so how would she teach? They met up in the training center Juturna had upgraded. Most of the equipment was pushed out of the way to give them a small battle field. Kari moved to pick up a dagger and Bulma remembered her time in the war and in hell where the small weapon was preferable. She could fight her in a knivesmanship fashion, but Kari still seemed unsure in the weapon, so Bulma decided to test it against something a little less deadly. She spun her stave around in a quiet rhythm, moving from side to side as she waited. When Kari finally announced herself as ready, Bulma smiled but expected what came next. Neither of Kari’s parents would give up first strike in a serious battle. Even Aria would want to rush in and test her skill before attempting to learn more technique. Kari spun around, attempting to get past Bulma’s guard and instead was met with a hard thwack against the joint of her arm that would force the strike off course and send a sharp and numbing sensation down the girl’s limb. The Zaunite recovered quick enough, attempting to swing backwards, and this time the stave came up from below, slamming towards the girl's elbow to send another shock wave of numbing pain up through it as it jerked the girl’s weapon out of its fluid motion. Kari still battled on, attempting a punch but this only resulted in Bulma moving one step quicker to send the flat point of the stave right into Kari’s gut with enough force to send her backwards before she could even try and swing again. ”I wouldn’t consider myself a defensive fighter,” Bulma explained, the stave returning to its methodical swing. ”But it’s rare someone touches me so early in a fight unless I allow it. This isn’t defense so much as tactics.”She moved in, her hand gripping around the pole before she jabbed it forward towards the shoulder of Kari’s dominant hand and the one holding the knife. She did so while keeping out of Kari's range of attack with the smaller weapon, snapping her own back before slamming it down towards the girl’s arm again. ”Every strike and movement has an aim.”The air shifted slightly around them as the black claw like appendage formed as her left arm.

Rebel Child As she went in to strike the blue-haired woman, she was met with her staff as it slammed against her arm. It felt like one of those smacks that a wise old teacher would give to his students in those old movies that the girl had seen. Once again she tried to attack, but it resulted in a similar fashion. Her arms were already starting to ache and it had only started. Kari wanted to be ticked off, even angry, but she wasn’t. Rather than that, she was a little impressed actually. She hadn’t really seen someone maneuver well when it came to defenses, defending wasn’t really what the Avatar of War liked to do. That all came to a crushing holt as the pole dug into her gut. The world around her felt as if it'd rushed by at light speed as she hunched over in pain and slid back from where she was. “I’ll touch you by the end of this,” she said with a smirk, fading back in. Those words, however, felt pretty empty as Bulma came in to strike, but she didn’t want to give in so easily. Kari took a deep breath and then tossed her weapon to her other hand to try and cross paths with the staff in an attempt to push it away from her. She underestimated the woman’s strength a little as it still managed to get through. Thankfully she was able to redirect it to the edge of her shoulder. She then repeated that same method once more. It might have looked like she was improving, but just doing that much took a lot of breath from her. The pink-haired woman didn’t know how many more times she’d be able to do that again. Kari was then speechless as she watched a dark figure overtook the blue-haired woman’s arm. What was that? She wanted to ask, but the time for that had to wait, she was determined to strike. “Every moment has an aim,” she repeated as she rushed forward once more and held her arm back as if she was preparing to launch a blow. Rather than that, she aimed her left fist towards Bulma. She then concentrated her power into it to fire it completely off from her arm to shoot at her opponent. Her arm remained intact, but what she’d actually done was project her fist as if it had come completely free from her. It was a surprise attack that she’d been thinking of trying on Walid, but where was he even? Once she was done with that, Kari kicked off the ground with her energy and then crawled up into a ball. She was preparing to launch herself like a cannonball for the blue-haired woman and pushed from where she was using her ki like a missile attempting to cause destruction. “I’m going to hit you at least once!” she proclaimed. Bulma smiled softly as Kari’s words, that motherly vibe slipping off her once more. Rather than Walid’s violent assaults, her strikes did seem instructive even if they were a bit brutal. Kari moved swiftly though, likely empowered through Walid’s training whether she’d want to admit it or not and Bulma grinned. ”Good,” she said as she flexed the fingers of her black hand. ”Push back and then counter attack while you have momentum.”She moved into a guarded position as Kari rushed but when the hand shot forward she did not strike it down with her weapon. Instead, she lowered it enough and pivoted so she could catch the fist in her hand, letting Kari touch her without any qualms. The girl rushed forward again however and this time Bulma wasn’t as kind. She waited until Kari’s path was set and then moved swiftly to the side so the girl crashed into the reinforced floor. Her hand moved on the stave to its bottom and she quickly jammed the flat end towards Kari’s side, finding exactly where she had already hit. ”It’s not about touching alone,” she said. ”Especially against a stronger opponent, it’s where and how you touch.”She swung the stave around giving Kari the time to get back to her feet only to step in low and send the rod up under the girl’s chin with further aim to disable her. She didn’t wait after either, pulling the weapon back and once more striking her with the halt, this time towards the bridge of her nose.

Rebel Child She was in shock… her attack didn’t manage to hurt nor damage her opponent, but it had accomplished its aim. The pink-haired woman didn’t bother with trying to come out on top or anything like that. All she wanted was to touch the blue-haired woman. Her moment of excitement came to a crashing halt as she collided with the hard ground. Her body laid there for a moment, stretched out like a bug that had been squashed. She knew that it was too good to be true for her to succeed again so soon. Unfortunately she didn’t have much time to console her shortcomings as Bulma went on the offense. There was little time for her to move, but she reached out her arm in an attempt to slap the strike away from her. The thing that she didn’t account for was the brunt damage she received from trying as the staff slammed into her arm. Still, she gritted her teeth back to roll back onto her feet. As soon as her footage returned, her head went flying backwards as an impact against her chin was made. She didn’t know what was going on other than a fight, nor did she know what would happen next. Because of that, she curled up her arms around her body and face to act as a turtle. “Endure…” she mumbled as a faint glow of light shimmered through the cracks, “Endure and wait.”
A strike was made and collided with her arms, but at least her body was safe. She still was hurt, but felt like it would have been worse had she not defended against it. That, however, was all that she was able to endure as her arms gave out and fell. Her guard did manage to do one thing, it allowed her to hide her next assault. While she was hiding her face, a glow of energy was being prepared. A blast of ki lept from her the second it was dropped to fly at Bulma. “And now,” she started to pant and then lunged forward to cut the distance between them. Kari swung her fist forward as if she was about to land a blow, but continued with the motion until her hand touched the ground. That was when she brought her leg around to try and bring her foot down at the top of the blue-haired woman’s head like a hammer. While hopefully she was distracted with that… her free hand still had her weapon. “Every move has an aim,” she said as she used her dagger to make a swipe at the blue-haired woman’s side. There was nothing wrong with turtling. It wasn’t the best of defensive stances and yet Bulma knew even Yan to do it. You couldn’t get a quick offensive going from it again, but when the attacks were truly overwhelming the ability to guard your vitals was vital. She wasn’t sure this array of attacks was worth turtling to, but she couldn’t fault it entirely, especially when Kari did the best thing you could do from a turtle stance: an energy attack that needed little physical movement. Bulma’s palm rose to face the blast, catching it in her palm. It scorched it, smoke rising from burnt flesh as the blow back shook down her arm. She probably could have taken a better defensive stance to it herself but she did not wish Kari’s efforts to seem entirely in vain. Even if her power was exceptionally low, it could touch her. It could harm her. If she played it smart she could create an impact. The girl feinted, and Bulma could see the movement that would follow. It was still a little wild, and Bulma side stepped just enough so the kick dug into her shoulder blade versus the most dangerous area of her skull. She took another side step as she moved, pushed down by the weight of the attack and the blade grazed her side too swift to send her much pain until she moved against it. ”Better, now work on your guard,” she said, pivoting her weight to send her staff towards Kari’s side. She moved slower now, giving the girl the chance to watch and react. Pulling the stave back in she jabbed it back out towards Kari’s stomach. She kept her aim for the body in her third strike before following an aggressive pattern to strike towards her head now that the guard had potentially lowered.

Rebel Child She was able to touch her again… the pink-haired girl didn’t know how to react. She didn’t think she was going to be able to do something like that again so soon. It was even making her happy. Unfortunately for her, that would have led to her downfall as well. In her moment of excitement, she wasn’t able to react in time to the blue-haired woman’s strikes quick enough. First her side and then her stomach, it was enough to jolt her mind back to the fight. “Guard…” she mumbled to herself and decided to use a different approach then before. Instead of acting as a turtle, she decided to use her own weapon in an attempt to help her out. She used it to not exactly collide with the staff, but redirect it away from her. Sadly, her strength just wasn’t enough to go unscathed. First she moved high, resulting in her shoulder getting hit and then low, causing her thigh to take damage next. Once it was all said and done, she huffed and huffed. Sweat started to drip from her forehead as she was unsure how much longer that strategy would work. She badly wanted to do something impressive, something that Bulma would compliment her on. That turned into anger, releasing steam around her that she was unaware of herself. The pink-haired woman looked around confused, but had an idea to use it to her advantage. Kari used it to cover up her movements, disappearing into it. She then jumped high until the air and curled up into a ball. A beam of light could be seen under her body as she tried to slam into the ground at her opponent. “Polo,” she said, as if they were playing a game of marco polo, "Here I am!" Kari’s guard could definitely use more work. The girl was still too easily distracted and occupied. In a real fight it would get her killed, but maybe that was part of the problem. This wasn’t a real fight. Her instincts weren’t being sharpened. It was merely instructive. Maybe Bulma needed to turn it up a notch to see if Kari would react better. It was how both her parents operated, so one could assume... Steam filled the training room and Bulma swung her staff in a quick motion to blow it away before the girl used her temporarily invisibility to get closer. She left the fog to the air however and Bulma dove into a roll to once more avoid the full force of the girl’s body. After seeing it once she knew Kari had not yet mastered it to be able to recover as quickly as she needed to, and Bulma took advantage of that. She didn’t dive far, placing her on the ground almost beside the mechanical Zaunite and her demon like hand stretched out right to the girl’s face. She didn’t strike however, stopping just short when instead a screaching noise ripped through the small space between them like the scream of a thousand lost souls ripping and tearing at her very brain. It was meant to debilitate her further, which gave Bulma ample time to recover and step away. ”It’s true that in some situations, the best defense is an offense. There are always attacks to push an enemy back, but other times you need to know how to negate damage,” she instructed. ”There some attacks you cannot afford to take.”As if to provide example of this Bulma rushed forward. Despite her normal speed in this attack she slowed herself down, once more giving Kari the time to prepare and act, but she took an extra step in that sped up however to not make it too easy and then jammed her stave towards the girl in swift consecutive strikes to vital points for both damage and ki control. If she did not block well it would spell all sorts of extra trouble. Bulma spun the staff upwards, gathering its icy power before she swung it back down like a bat. Instead of just a physical strike however a brilliant beam of freezing cold ki exploded outwards in an attempt to trap Kari where she stood. It was another attack she should not take to the face.

Rebel Child It would seem that her assault ended up coming short again, but she decided not to get angry over it like her father would have. She wanted to be different, that was the whole reason she asked the blue-haired woman to fight right? She then watched as a hand reached out to her, but it stopped. What was her opponent up to? Before the pink-haired woman knew it, a loud screech erupted. “Ahhhhh,” she said as she placed her fingers into her ears in an attempt to muffle out the sounds and stepped back until she bumped into something. Kari turned around to see what it was… it was the weapon rack from earlier. She could hear Bulma’s movements behind her and reacted with her reflexes by grabbing a sword that was hanging from it. She then held it in place of where the spear’s strikes came and realized how useful the blade was against her dagger, it was larger. It helped provide more room to cover from a deadly blow, but the power behind was still too great for her. It caused her to slide back, crashing into the rack. When there was a break, she stopped to catch her breath, but realized she couldn’t as a wave of ice was flung towards her. She didn’t like the look nor the feel from it. Before it had even reached her, she could feel cold all of a sudden. Kari thought that it might have been a long shot, but it was an idea she could try. She unsheathed the sword, crouching as she did so. With her blade held up high, the ice collided with it, slicing it in half so that it would fall on opposite sides of her. A freezing wind brushed by as it did, making her shiver. Ice… ice was interesting she thought. She’d been around her father for most of her life so fire was all that she was around. It made her want to learn even more from the blue-haired woman. “So… is that like a parlor trick?” she asked, unsure if that was the end of her depths. The pink-haired girl then broke off a couple shards of ice and tossed them at the blue-haired woman as if they were icy daggers. She then kicked off the ground to rush towards her with the blade in tow. She wasn’t used to the weight unfortunately, causing her balance to slip out from her. Rather than a calculative blow, she swung widely. It was very obvious that she wasn’t used to the weapon. ”Not at all,” Bulma answered with a smile. ”Is your dad’s fire breath a parlor trick?”Fire was so much easier for most. It was easy to get heated and let energy flow out hot and destructive. A cool head in battle was a challenge for most, and keeping such concentration as to freeze up that energy was also less common, but it existed. Bulma had help though, and as she spun her staff through the air the clear see through weapon misted over as the ice staff released its true chilling power. Kari flung the ice shards and Bulma sped up her spin, slamming them down in a swift motion before it rose again for diagonal block against the heavier weapon. She took a back step and once more drove the haft of her weapon towards the girl’s center. This time was different however. This time the strike sent a chill down Kari’s spine and threatened to ice over where it touched. Bulma didn’t stop either spinning the weapon around to strike at her neck, then her side, before offering another jab towards her joints. Thick ice stayed behind after each strike. ”Controlling various elements is not out of reach for a skilled martial artist. When you have experienced cold like no other, ice comes easily, she explained with a mysterious smile before swinging the staff back around as she dropped down, turning it into a sweep behind the girl’s knees before she launched it upwards to try and strike under the girl’s chin as she rose again. Even a close miss would send a wave of cold towards the engineered Zaunite and while it was the opposite of fire it held the same dangerous pressure. It wouldn’t destroy you, but it would leave you victim to far worse fates. The staff swung back as Bulma stepped forward this time lashing out towards Kari’s elbow, followed by her hands, constantly out to debilitate.

Was it just some parlor trick? When the pink-haired woman thought about her father using fire to fight, the more she thought how it seemed perfect based on his personality. He was hot headed and fought ferociously. The blue-haired woman was different, she seemed cool and collected just like ice. It made her wonder if she too should think about which direction she wanted to go, or maybe her mind was already made up after asking to be trained.
The assault was back on, but it managed to catch Kari off guard. Her thinking got the better of her and she couldn’t do anything to stop it. Over and over she was struck, each time left behind a layer of frost onto her body. It made her knees buckle as she fell to the ground. Everytime she breathed out, smoke came out. She was cold, but it didn’t seem to bother her as much.
If anything bothered her, it was the fact that she couldn’t go on. She still had a lot of work ahead of her before she could be a force to be reckoned with. The Avatar of War would have been ashamed, she thought if he knew that she had to give up. It was clear that if the fight went on then she would just embarrass herself. She needed to rest and recover, fighting nonstop wasn’t the way to go.
“I can’t go on,” she said, fighting back a sneeze and shivering.

Bulma almost felt a little bad as Kari was once more overwhelmed, worn down now from the battle thus far. She was almost completely covered in ice when the scientist was through, locking her into place and likely being very, very unpleasant. Bulma stepped forward, and gently touched Kari’s head. A warmth soothed out of it very different than Walid’s harsh flame but warm heat nonetheless. Her ki moved harmlessly through the engineered Zaunite, and the ice melted away as her wounds seemed to heal up a bit. At the end of it she’d be feeling a lot better at least, even if exhaustion could not be completely erased.
”You probably could have, but this is just training. The point isn’t to win, and I’m not interested in pushing you past your limits just yet. What’s important is that you learned,” Bulma explained with a smile. ”I’m not really the best of teachers, but you did better as the fight went on.”
She looked down to the sword that Kari had gripped so tightly and inspected it for a moment. ”Swordsmanship is a lot different than fighting with daggers, but it might suit you better if you’d prefer midrange. You should experiment until you find something you’re comfortable with.”
