CHampion LV 2, FOrtune rune
Dreary, destitute, dilapitated beyond belief,
A world of ruins and remains of ancient times, a dead world where only silence and the bland smell of death remained. It was at such a place that one could find Halcyon. He hated this place, as it reminded him of his own flaws and despair, how he had once stood at the pinnacle of power and now had been relegated to play a role on the sidelines. His own death cycle had been quite strange, as it seemed that every time he managed to crawl back to the life of the living, his own power and presence seemed to have gotten weaker and weaker and to make matters worse, the body he was currently using was failing miserably, crumbling under his corrosive energy.
Settling himself on what looked like it had once been some sort of well, the demon let out an audible sigh, yet as he did so, he could hear the faint squeak of a little critter, scurrying about in the ruins. To somehow relieve himself of his boredom, Halcyon raised his finger and shot out a small black blast of energy at the origin of the sound, hearing a screech and a thud, followed yet again by silence. "Heh, how things have changed...from being the scourge of planets to being the scourge of...pests."

"Well that wasn't very kind of you," Maverick said. The silver-haired Kekko stepped out from behind the husk of what had once been a grand and solid building. For all one knew, this building had been the heart of a great and vibrant city. Perhaps even the very hub of this long lost civilization. Yet now it had been merely reduced to a crumbling concrete shell of lifeless rubbish by the unrelenting flow of time.
Maverick had come here in search of a mythical relic last seen centuries ago. He was about to call off the search and head back after a day of archeological exploration wasted when he picked up Halcyon's massive power level. It puzzled him to find another person here. Was he also in search of the relic? He had been secretly shadowing the stranger for several minutes. Maverick was a treasure hunter, true, but he was also a warrior and spending all day digging in the dust and debris just wasn't as alluring to him as it had been in his younger years. Maybe testing this fellow's power would prove to be a more entertaining venture. Plus, he might be able to discern the man's motives.
"What do you think would happen if you tried that little technique....on me?" he mused.

Halcyon silently raised his head, turning his gaze towards the silver-haired visitor who actually managed to surprise him in his moment of contemplation on his personal future and desires. For a moment, his lips curled into somewhat of a smirk, amused by the man's quip. "Any man desiring to know the answer to that question, has to be rather certain of their superiority, wouldn't you agree?"
Standing up, the demon arched his back slightly backwards, the sound of air popping out of his vertebrea and the subsequent sigh of relief coming from his lips showing that he'd been sitting at that spot for a bit too long to his body's own liking. Stretching out a hand at the silver-haired man, the demon smiled. He had not been asked to test out his own power in a while and in all fairness, with how decrepit and unstable his current vessel seemed to be, it couldn't hurt to see what his own limits were. "I shall take you up on that question, let's indeed see what would happen."
With his aura flaring up wildly, the black flames of his ki swirling around him, Halcyon suddenly fired off a single, small blast of energy towards Maverick, the starting sign of what could be an interesting match perhaps...

"I shall take you up on that question, let's indeed see what would happen," the man had responded.
Now that Maverick had this person's full attention, he could sense a powerful consciousness within him. It was unsettling, almost intimidating. The only way he could describe it to himself was evil. Something demonic at the very least. He hadn't felt it before, when Halcyon's attention was directed elsewhere, but now it was all too noticeable.
He knew this man was a killer. He could just feel it. Plus Maverick had a tendency of arrogantly underestimating people. He would have to tread lightly here so he did not himself become a part of the desolate ruins. Halcyon seemed all too eager to take him on. The man did not look like a treasure hunter, so what type of person passed his time in the remains of ancient civilizations like what now surrounded them?
Suddenly Halcyon shot a blast of ki from one of his fingers. The energy moved quickly, and Maverick met it with an open palm. He was able to grasp the energy without permitting it to explode. The light became brighter and brighter the longer he held it. Soon it would erupt despite his best efforts of containment so the Kekko gritted his teeth and pushed his hand forward, redirecting the blast back towards Halcyon himself.

Halcyon's smile did not fade when the stranger had managed to deflect the blast of energy back at him. Reaching out with his hand, the demon managed to block his own blast, smothering it by simply closing his hand into a fist before opening it again and revealing that the palm of his hand had been lightly singed, all the while smoke swirled through the air.
"As expected, you're certainly more powerful than the pests I had to content myself with up til now," A slightly sinister chuckle escaped the demon's lips, as he tilted his head slightly to the left, his eyes widening and showing keen interest, before his entire body seemed to shimmer. The demon suddenly removed the distance between the two in a single instant, his smile having turned into a wicked grin as he threw his right hand into a swift jab towards the Kekko's gut. "Shall we continue?"
It really wouldn't matter if the jab was prevented or not, as with that same wicked grin plastered on his face, the demon's eyes started to glow, at which point two thin beams of black energy were fired off from Halcyon's eyes, aimed square at Maverick's own face.

After smothering his own energy blast, Halcyon closed the distance between them quickly and through a right hand toward Maverick's stomach. It was fast, but slower than Maverick had expected. He redirected the attack away from him with a palm strike to the demon's wrist.
"Too sl-" Maverick began. Suddenly Halcyon's eyes lit up and two thin energy beams shot out from his pupils towards Maverick's own face. The distance being what it was, there was no way to evade this one. It was all Maverick could do to simply turn his head so at least it didn't connect squarely in his face. The beams burned into the side of Maverick's head. The sudden, piercing pain felt like two daggers had been plunged into his scalp. If one were to observe the attack, they would see two singed black spots in his otherwise pristine silver hair.
He grimaced, but did not falter. It wasn't the first pain he had ever felt, nor the worst. He countered with an uppercut aimed at Halcyon's jaw which he hoped to then follow up with a series of left and right hands, alternating high and low, in a boxing-esque like combination of physical attacks.

Though the slight sting on his wrist attested to the Kekko's quick thinking, the demon still felt quite pleased that his surprise attack utilizing the eyebeam technique did end up having some effect. Alas this moment of feeling elated at being the superior fighter was quickly dashed when he could feel his entire head and back arch backwards when Maverick's fist crashed against his lower jaw with enough force to lift him almost off of the ground, leaving little to no time to react to an incoming flurry of left and right hand hooks, jabs and straights that pushed him firmly on the back foot.
It was not all that bad though, having someone to truly test this flawed new vessel against, especially if this someone was not at all a weak specimen of a race which usually seemed to be comprised primarily out of whining scholars and bumbling elders. So rather than actually defend properly, Halcyon allowed himself to get pummeled, feeling every blow and every angled jab and punch hit him, reverberating through muscle, sinew and bone, but also allowing him to analyze his opponent's pattern, the way the Kekko utilized his physique and thus allowing the demon to firmly understand the best way to counter and create meassures against this style.
After having received a multitude of blows, the demon suddenly reacted by clenching his fists, raising his right arm upwards and aside in a mere fraction of a second to redirect an incoming blow, followed by a hard straight with his left fist. However, rather than aiming at Maverick's face, Halcyon seemed to find it more prudent to aim at the area between the collarbone and shoulder of the Kekko's righthand side, aiming to hit right where the muscles connected in order to momentarily incapacitate the right arm. This calculated effort would then be followed by the demon making a swift quarter turn with his upper body in order to utilize his own right fist to perform a heavy uppercut aimed at the Kekko's chin, with the sole intent of slowing down his opponent and to hamper the treasure hunters' balance and focus.

Halcyon's punch hit Maverick in the bulky muscle under his arm, between the shoulder and collarbone He gritted his teeth and shrugged off the throbbing pain that the blow brought, counter attacking with a punch of his own which Halcyon deflected and promptly responded with an uppercut. The upward punch staggered Maverick momentarily halting his flurry of attacks. Halcyon moved toward him seemingly ready to follow up his attack with another but Maverick had already regained his composure. He sent another right straight toward the demon's eye, his fist electrified with sparking energy.
The two warriors fiercely grappled like this for several moments, trading blows and defenses back and forth. Neither seemed to be gaining the upper hand as they moved around the ruins locked in the grapple, sometimes going straight through dilapidated concrete walls without either even seeming to notice. Gray dust filled the air around their fierce battle.
Finally, Maverick pushed aside one of Halcyon's attacks and then disengaged by disappearing with a speed teleport moments before Halcyon's fist would have connected with him. He reappeared about twenty yards away, precariously balanced on the top of a pointed ruin.
"I think that is enough for today," he said. "I am sure, however, that we will be seeing more of one another in the future."
He nodded, then disappeared for the final time.
