Leading from hereJoseph let out a heavy huff as Yua's kick forced air from his lungs and sent him stumbling back. He didn't get too far however as she quickly snatched his collar and threw him to the ground. In honesty, he felt embarrassed to be handled in such a way. It made him feel more like a child than he already did. Joseph put both his hands around Yua's wrist and try to pry the Android's hand off to no avail. It seemed at his current level of power he was still behind the Android at least in terms of physical strength. He continued pulling as he responded to what she said. "Shows what you know about my every day life. There's rarely a week where I don't have to fight some super powered bad guy. Have you ever fought an intergalactic warlord that conquered 10 worlds, destroyed 5, and made a black hole?" Joseph continued pulling to no avail. His technique in trying to escape was questionable, trying to pry the wrist away in a way that went against leverage and would have taken considerable greater strength than the one holding him. Yua had a considerable favor in terms of physical strength, he was wishing he managed to transform even more. He had another solution however. He placed his hands towards the side of his head. "Solar flare!" A brilliant flash of light erupted in the boy attempts to overload whatever optics the Android had and distract her, he kicked at kicked at her torso and rolled away. Afterwards he tried to transform again. "Ahhhhh!" The boys aura flared around him and quickly flickered out without its hue or his fair turning gold. He looked at himself, disappointed that he didn't ignite the form. "Aww man." Joseph pushed passed the moment of disappointment and stepped towards Yua hoping he could capitalize on his early solar flare, he shot a straight righthand at her face hoping to knock away the Paladin Android if not cause a temporary shut down or reboot. Whatever was the equivalent of an Android getting knocked out. WC: 351

Yua looked at him, not with pity, but with a more neutral look. He might be about as old she she was, if they counted her from the time that the android wasn't just a computer. But she had lived through things that Joseph never would have imagined. Trying to question what she knew or not was a foolish thing in the first place. She glared down at the child as she responded, "That's the first thing you think to ask?" Perhaps he'd never went through what Yua had, something that the android didn't wish on anyone. "Have you ever been discarded because you were an obsolete piece of junk? Have you ever had to ask why continue to exist? Have you ever had to give up your reason for living? In all sense of the these words, Joseph, I hope you never have to experience the experiences that I've had. Have you ever wondered what would happen if one really good spark ran through your body?"
She let him go. He would never know the terror that existed within an android that became self aware. If one really powerful or strange electric shock ran through her body, Yua wasn't dead in the sense of an organic. She repeated as he howled out the blinding attack's name, "I hope you never have to experience the experiences that I've had." They made people stronger, some said. But she was an android without purpose or guidance. Without primary function. His attacks didn't lead to a movement from her. His kicks landed against dust as she had moved from them. A psychic trick as she skidded a little away.
She sensed his attempt at the elevated state, before Yua shook her head. Her eyes weren't really needed, as she placed one hand towards Joseph's punch and caught it with poised practice. "I don't need vision," she stated calmly. "My ZERO system and my android sensors are among the top tech in our world. And yet..." It could all be useless. "I won't pretend that we don't have individual experiences. But don't think that I haven't fought against creatures and monsters that rival and surpass those that you have. We both fought during Azazel's war against our universe. We both fought against horrors of our own. But don't use that as a crutch."
Even if she was harsh with him, she was trying to impart knowledge in him. It was better to use these things to learn. She would not have chosen this life for him. She'd rather he attended school and been a normal organic child. But she wouldn't just let him trudge through life blindly. Not if he asked her to help. "Do you want my guidance, Joseph? Or are my words a waste?" It wasn't a plea, it wasn't patronizing. It was just a question. Did he want her help, or would he swat her hand away? She wasn't sure, but it was worth the ask as she let his hand go. If he wanted to gain a better understanding of how to reach the elevated state, Yua could help. But only if he asked her to.

Yua's question along with its serious tone took the organic child aback. He couldn't discern what was the issue with that question, it was an oddly specific inquiry and one he didn't think would offend her in any way. Yua followed with more questions that encompassed the plights a self aware Android could face and saying she hoped that he'd never be faced with such experiences. It made him think of EP-3. EP-3 was often smiling and chipper but there were times when she was upset by the struggles and mistreatment of Androids. He remembered filling out information for her when he took her to a mechanic. One question seemed to touch on a touchy part of her passed. The question about whether she had ever been made to needed to reboot due to being hit. The thought of anyone causing something like that to her intentionally made him want to punch someone.
In regards to what would happen if a good spark went though his body, Joseph figured it would hurt. It would probably hurt a lot but he was sure his mind and sense of identity wouldn't be brought to ruin.
Yua went on saying that she wasn't denying they both experienced trials, but that she had faced just as bad if not greater threats and to not use his the threats he faced as a crutch, as she evaded his kick before intercepting his punch, though Joseph didn't say what he said to try to win the furious race to the bottom. He just wanted it to be clear he regularly faced formidable threats.
The Android released his hand and asked if he wanted her guidance. This added to the list of surprising questions. Guidance from her of all people wasn't something he considered seeking. That's what his parents were for along with his superiors such as his teachers and masters. In all honesty, the reason for Yua's concern for him eluded the half-Saiyan. On a surface level he saw her a dubious Android thst followed him around, though genuine consideration showed to be there.
She always tried to engage with him whenever they happened to be near each other and protect him from threats. Yua acted as a guardian to him in a way. The boy couldn't fully understand why someone with so many of their own problems would concern themselves with him, especially when he seldom thought about giving her the time of day.
He stood quietly and mused on her question. He didn’t like asking for or receiving favors from people who didn't owe him anything and he was tentative to seek guidance from someone who wasn't a superior to him. Teachers and Masters are people devoted a great deal of time to their fields, they earned titles that certified them as authorities above people who didn't have their credentials. If he needed help from someone who's status didn't exceed his own what did that make him? But then again she cared and he couldn't dismiss the possibility she had something to offer. "Sure," he said tentatively.

If Joseph knew about the Paladins, he might have rethought that Yua was without merits in teaching and leading. Certainly, she had followed him around, but so far he had yet to demonstrate that he had the full control someone with his power really needed if they didn't go off the deep end. Joseph, in every sense of the word, was still a child. That she would not deny, nor take that against him in his thoughts and beliefs. Still, she had thought that he'd be a little more interested then a tentative answer. Well, at least he didn't outright reject her.
The android pointed at him and gave a small smile, "You don't need to tell me about the opponents that you've faced, nor the gravity of their importance. Strong foes or weak can defeat you. So first I'll help you to control your abilities so that defeat and regret are less likely." It wasn't like the kid couldn't protect his friends from street level threats, but the problems could come about if he lost a friend. Rage and sadness were a way for his Saiyan biology to kick in and force that emotion to become the catalyst for transformation. That wasn't the issue, the issue was the control of it.
"Saiyans, pure blood and their offspring that can attain the elevated states, have special cells. These are what allow you to become the 'Super Saiyan'. I think you already know that the catalyst is emotions. Raw, scrapped free of reason, emotion. The easiest to do this with is rage and sadness," she explained before she weaved in the air with her control over the realm. "But what about love? Not just the love of your parents, but a love so pure that it is your desire to protect them?" Emotions were something that Yua herself still struggled with understanding in her self aware state. "Try to use positive emotions to attain the state of Super Saiyan."
This was something that she was sure Joseph could do. It had not been long ago that she'd admonished and scolded him for his loss of control. He had almost killed in a rush to take command, or to defend, she was sure. So this was the next best attempt.

Yua's smile helped to ease the boy's worry about upsetting her earlier. What she said about how weak foes as well as strong ones could defeat him. That was something Joseph was all too aware. Broly was only half as powerful as he was the first time the rogue Saiyan had defeated him, and Puar had beat him in a tournament when he had stepped into the ring as a Super Saiyan. The thought of having help to make defeat and regret less likely was a rather appealing offer.
The Android went on to share some information that he was somewhat familiar with when explaining how Saiyan's achieve their fabled heightened states. "Yeah, they're called S cells. Professor Rose told me about them." S cells were a relatively recent finding in terms of discoveries about Saiyan biology as far as Joseph knew. The boy reflected on what he heard and read about them. He remembered reading that they were present in most if not all pure-blooded Saiyans and the count of these cells varied. There was mention of those of Saiyan heritage who have a gentle spirit tended to have more S cells and the count could be increased through Training.
There was actually a time that he could only go into the false Super Saiyan form and he was worried that he could only ever achieve that form due to being half-Saiyan. His dad assured that wasn't how it worked however, the potential to reach Super Saiyan was in essence all or nothing. If you had the potential to ascend to any form of Super Saiyan than any level Super Saiyan could be achieved.
Yua went on to talk about the emotional aspect of reaching the state making the lesson so far, feel more like an overview of things he already learned but they had just started. The Android went on from talking about anger and sadness to talk about love and a pure desire to protect. "You sound like Brianne," Joseph said. As he folded his arms and thought for a moment. He remembered he had actually spoken to Brianne about how Super Saiyan was triggered through anger and her saying that it was a slippery slope. Given the magical girl's abilities being so closely linked to emotion he took her feedback seriously.
If he had to rely on drawing from an emotion to transform, love would have been his last guess, he almost took the form sully fueled by his blinding hatred for Broly, and it was an eruption of rage that allowed him to take the form. He almost felt like the Android woman was just throwing a suggestion out, but he closed his eyes and focused, his energy manifested and flowed through his body thinking of the positive feelings he had towards his loved ones.
