Nelgae VS Juch
Juch — Yesterday at 10:43 AM
In a dimly lit room, the air heavy with a swirling haze of smoke, Juch paced restlessly back and forth, his footsteps echoing softly against the wooden floorboards as the flickering light of a solitary lamp cast eerie shadows on the peeling wallpaper.
This entire situation was…off.
He had to think about this carefully.
The red glow at the tip of the cigarette illuminated the unreadable expression on his face; outside raindrops splattered against the windows. And slowly, the rhythm of his pacing began to slow down.
WIth another heavy drag, the android added another gravestone to the growing pile in the ashtray before reaching out and dialing on a new burner phone.
It was time to give Nier and Nelgae another call.
Rei — Yesterday at 10:51 AM
Their last meeting had ended up with a ruined mood, and a Juch that had turned out sour. Not at him, nor Nier, at the very least. Nelgae had taken care of the next package, as the smoking remains of the base were left behind as a ruin. He sighed, though, as the Klaxxi had been forced to take on his King Slayer form, the truest of his strength. The Klaxxi looked over at Nier, as he had left her to either stand up or lay down.
They hadn't used all of their bugs, but Nier was mostly out of them as she laid on the ground, clearly not in as good of a shape as the monster before her. He had his arms folded as the crimson glow left the bug man, though he was still a multicolored mess from all the gore that was on him. He had his meal, but the area that they had been in was thuroughly trashed. It was a clear message, and it was not likely that there'd be anyone to protest. Not yet.
It was then that Nier got a call. She blinked, and then pulled up the call on the PTO Scouter that Nelgae gave her to wear. "Uh, hi! This is Mr. J?" She clearly was out of breath, and it wasn't like Nel paid attention at the moment as he had started to digest their uh. Packages that would be forever missing, as it were.
Juch — Yesterday at 11:04 AM
"...it is," Juch spoke.
The clear click of a lighter could be heard as he lit up a new cigarette. Nier had picked up, but she sounded like she either just woke up or had been at the tail end of a sprint. It gave the android a bit of pause, “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
He continued to walk again, this time moving closer to the heavily shuttered windows. With another exhale, he took a peek through the cracks towards the outside. The only movement he could see are the raindrops on the growing puddles on the ground. Satisfied, he moved away.
“I wanted to check up on how you and Nelgae are doing. It had been some time since our last meeting, but it’s been weighing heavily on my mind.”
Rei — Yesterday at 11:13 AM
Nier smiled as she replied, "Hello Mr. J." Of course, she didn't know why he called, so she didn't needlessly chatter. Not like her master would have droned on and on. "Your not interrupting us at all." Hopefully that didn't come off as strange. He might have thought that they were doing the nasty, if Nel ever seemed interested in that sort of thing.
When he asked about the job, Nier giggled as she said, "Ah, that's why I'm tired. We just finished with uh. Seeing that no one sees the packages again." There was a tone of calmness to her, but she was still a little on edge. Their fight had been rather heavy, as one might expect from just a two man team. "Master Nel found a lot of snacks as we moved through."
It was only then that the bug man reazlized that Nier spoke to their contact. Juch was certaily one that kept close tabs on his allies and enemies, thought the former Champion. He wondered which Juch thought them as. After all, he might have thought that it was Nelgae had betrayed him for zeni! An elaborate act, one could say. But he hoped such was not the case. "Ask J how he's doing," The bug man instructed.
"Uhh. Master Nel is asking how you are," she added with a little confusion.
Juch — Yesterday at 11:45 AM
Ah, so they were on the job.
That was fast. Nelgae certainly worked effectively - tracking down someone with only a vague physical description and a general guess at the planet that they were on…well, honestly, Juch had expected that it would have been a good while longer.
It was a surprise, but most certainly a pleasant one.
His tone also remained light - the euphemisms were certainly a nice veil against the harsh morbidity that they were discussing, but it seemed that when it came getting their hands dirty, Juch and Nier did share a commonality to how they treated a job.
It also explained why her tone had a bit of weight to it compared to the chipper attitude that she had displayed before, “Both you and Nelgae are on the field? Impressive, Nier. You are one of many talents.”
Juch shifted the phone from one ear to the other, “I’m doing alright; at this moment, I’m currently in one of my safe houses - thinking. I was curious about Nelgae’s connections to the smaller insects; last time, I recall it was thanks to them that informed us of the threat of the bomb, right in the nick of time.”
Rei — Yesterday at 11:58 AM
Nel tilted his antennae before he thought about what to say in response. Though Nier had the Scouter, this was jhust the standard issued one. He had his own back on their ship, but the bugs that she harbored allowed him to near most of it. For that, it seemed that they had a fair bit of range in what they could say. They weren't all that intelligent, but the mass of messages usually got the point across. His arms folded as he had to think of a reply to that, but Nier came up with it first.
"Which ones? Lord Nel commands many different ones. You can think of him like a King among the small ones." She wondered if he meant the ones that drained ki, or the ones in particular that had informed them about the bomb. "Ah, the ones that had the bomb detection. If I recall, those were special, but they were all killed in the last... Master Nel is training another generation, but they are a frail race."
The Klaxxi warrior nodded. Yes, this was the way to explain it. She then replied to his earlier comment, "Master Nel says that me going with him this time was for training. I still only have the basics down, and he said that I should master the basics before I try anything too complicated." She nodded her head, though Juch wouldn't see that part. "Did you want some of the same kind of friends?" She referred to them as friends, and not bugs. That should be a clue. She never referred to the bugs as bugs. Little ones, them, and friends. She was indeed a different kind of person.
Juch — Yesterday at 3:33 PM
"How very interesting," another wreath of smoke began to circle around Juch's head. He crossed his arms, his fingers drumming against his arm as he took in the information; a brief flash of amusement crossed his features at Nier's word choice, and he elected to follow her example.
It made sense that the various ‘friends’ had specialized in their own talents. The ones that drained ki from the initial onslaught were different than the bomb detecting ones, “I imagine the time it takes to train a new generation also depends on which kind of friend we’re talking about.”
A sacrifice especially to protect Nier; the android briefly wondered whether that incident had any basis for the girl to partake in the mission as well. In the past, it seemed that Nelgae went for those packages by himself, but this time it seemed different.
“You do have to walk before you can run,” Juch agreed, “Otherwise, you’ll be putting yourself and those you care about in unneeded danger.”
“I don’t necessarily need those kinds of friends, but friends that can conduct surveillance operations would be ones I’m interested in,” the android continued, “It mainly has to do with the incident at the pub. The more I analyze the situation, the more I’m convinced that it isn’t as straightforward as it seems.”
Rei — Yesterday at 9:03 PM
Nier judged that as fair, she couldn't really get it through her head as to why the place was targeted, or who that G’hokrkel guy was. When she had asked her master, he simply told her that he was not aware of the underground world at all, beyond those connected to the ring twenty five years ago. G’hokrkel was not one of those people, or if he was, he never sent men to interact with him specifically.
"You've made a good point. It does take several generations to get them tweaked to the proper level for what Master Nel likes. Or so he's shown me," Nier started to get her more cheery side back as she sat back up and looked around them. "Oh, and the compound with the packages is also inoperable. Just in case, though, I believe master left some demolition bugs behind to finish a dismantling."
She then tiled her head and replied once more, "Another good point. Sometimes master puts it too bluntly for me to understand a reason." She grinned over at Nelgae, who just tilted his head before he picked her up and placed him on the shoulder that was not used for Wriggle. "Whao! Ha ha, I don't think master has ever put me on his shoulder. You said you wanted surveillance friends? I believe we have a lot of those friends. It's how we found the target so fast." She had a dark grin about that as a few friends like that swarmed around them.
The buzzing stopped as they landed near the ship, as it was but a moment of the buzzing cocofany of the insects. Nelgae borrowed the scouter back as he spoke to Juch now, "Sorry to butt in, but I'm hearing that you need a custom order?" It was a little joke, but he was entirely serious. He decided to add on, so that it was clear that he was, indeed, serious, "What kind of surveillance did you need? I can specialize if you do need them customized, or I can give you the general version. They just need to imprint on you, in a sense. So I'll throw in some pharamones for that as well.
