A man suddenly became aware of the feeling of cool air on his face and the crunch of snow beneath his boots. He bristled at the sudden sounds of rusting leaves and prickly pines, alert in case of any danger. Why was he so alert? He called out, uncertainty creeping into his voice. "Hello?"
NobleTrinity — 08/02/2023 10:51 PM
A blonde-haired boy watched from the pines above with all the silence and motion of a statue, his power suppressed, his breath nearly nonexistent due to the snow in his mouth. His eyes narrowed as a silver-haired dressed in Scholar's robes stepped out from a tree in front of the man, his voice light but his posture on guard; "Hello, Stranger. What brings you to this neck of the woods?"
Tienizard — 08/02/2023 10:56 PM
Another man appeared suddenly, stepping out of woods in response. "I..." he started, realizing he didn't know the answer. A tuft of snow fell from his own silvered hair as he processed the look of the stranger. "I don't know, actually, but this place feels familiar. Where are we?"
NobleTrinity — 08/02/2023 11:00 PM
The man raised his hands and gave a light smile as he answered that question as snow fell from his sleeves; "Well, this is the woods, but I'm sure you didn't mean that exactly." He cocked his head as he studied the man, then added more dryly: "This is the Astral Realm, a different dimension that currently has both of our consciousnesses inside of it. Basically, we're both dreaming."
Tienizard — 08/02/2023 11:07 PM
The stranger gave off a sense of calm and understanding as he explained. "Dreaming?" That one word set off a cascade of memories as Garou - that was his own name, after all - nodded, his thick brows furling into a scowl. All fundamental, core memories, and none explaining what this Astral Realm was, but it was a start. "Very well then. You may call me Garou. Who would you be, and why are you sharing this dream with me?"
NobleTrinity — 08/02/2023 11:10 PM
The Scholar crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow as the lightbulb seemed to click on for the man before him, and he chuckled, his silver tail revealing itself to swish back and forth in his quiet mirth. "Well then, Garou, surely you haven't forgotten me. We've met a few times, after all--oh." The man paused as a thought struck him, and he nodded to himself; "It makes sense that you don't. I look like me while we are here and not my counterpart. Regardless, I'm Soul, and as for what I was doing...well, I daresay the stealth training with Zyren seems to be working just fine."
Tienizard — 08/02/2023 11:18 PM
Soul? Zyren? These were names that Garou didn't quite recognize, but his instincts kicked back in when the silver-haired man mentioned stealth training. "Counterpart? I'm glad your training is going well but... why would you have to sneak around?" As he asked the question, he could feel the answer in his own body. Synapses began to wake themselves up as old muscles made their place known, deliberately constructed for the sake of punching and kicking and fighting and killing. Frosty eyes darted around, finally settling back on Soul, wondering what he was hiding under those unassuming robes. "Are you a fighter too, then?"
NobleTrinity — 08/02/2023 11:25 PM
Soul pursed his lips as he watched the man's body tense, subtle changes in the way he held himself making themselves known to his eyes, as well as Zyren's up above. It was so similar to how an animal, no, how Zyren acted that it nearly caught him off guard.
However, he merely let his deep-blue hues meet Garou's own; "Not more so as to why we have to, but as a 'just in case.' All three of us are fighters, Garou. Did you...hit your head?" He asked suddenly as a thought struck him, "Or did your Gem malfunction?"
Tienizard — 08/02/2023 11:37 PM
Garou and Soul's eyes were locked, words hanging in the air for just a moment longer than natural. "I... don't know." Something stirred in the man's chest as he awoke to more of his senses. The ambient heat between two bodies insulted by frosty air. The smells around them, not just their own but of a third too - perhaps belonging to the counterpart. The sound of his heart beating, faster and faster every moment as uncertainties filled Garou's mind.
"I don't know what's going on," he muttered, racked with anxiety. Garou's fist shot out to the side with a feral look in his eye, slamming into a nearby tree.
NobleTrinity — Yesterday at 12:14 AM
Zyren swayed with the pine that shook from the impact, the tree creaking mightily as the wood splintered from the strike but didn't fall, the Saiyan himself refusing to make a sound as his clung to the wood with an iron grip. Snow fell in a cascade as the branches dislodged their rough burdens, and Soul chuckled again. "Amnesia of some sort then? Oh boy, do I know that struggle or don't I?" His gaze hardened, however, as he felt the man's strength rise with his apparent emotions.
"Either way, Garou, you need to take it slow. What do you remember? Lets start there. Oh, and Zy, get down from the tree. Im sure he'd appreciate not being cornered."
No physical reply answered him except for the slight tip-tap and barely inaudible crunch of compressing snow several feet to Garou's right as Zyren landed.
Tienizard — Yesterday at 12:31 AM
Another reset hit Garou's demeanor as shock took the place of anxiety. He didn't even pull the splinters of wood from his fist as it clicked that he crushed that tree without meaning to. What else could he do?
"Yeah... Take it slow..." As if to emphasize the suggestion, Garou exhaled slowly but forcefully producing to a low whistle. He paced slightly in the snow veering to the left, subconsciously aware of the sounds coming from his other side.
"I know my name," he said, thinking hard. "I come from a planet called Zora, but I don't think it's there anymore. And I guess I learned to fight there." Garou blinked, hoping to catch a glimmer of a memory in the split second his eyes were closed. "Did you have amnesia too?"
NobleTrinity — Yesterday at 12:35 AM
Soul took in the man's pace and leaned back against the tree as Zyren did the same on the other side, both seeming to cock their heads at random times or even glance at one another; yet not a word passed their lips. Soul shrugged at the planet's name; "I've never heard of Zora, but I'll say you're right on that. As for me and my amnesia? Oh boy, it was bad. Still is, actually." His tone went from an earnest lightness to a strained one, yet he shrugged; "Mine is...very different and a special form of it as well. I've yet to hear of someone that has...been in my circumstance to cause it."
Tienizard — Yesterday at 11:54 AM
The snow continued to crunch underfoot as Garou meandered, keeping the silver- and golden-haired men at least in his periphery. They seemed to communicate nonverbally. Soul's voice betrayed his earnestness, even some discomfort, but there was too much going on for the Zoran to trust what was going on. Those thoughts were almost as disquieting as the fact that they were his first thoughts on the matter.
"You've had problems with your memory too, then? Have you recovered them at all, or just..." he trailed off, racking his brain for more concrete information about who or what he was.
NobleTrinity — Yesterday at 12:01 PM
Soul shook his head, "No, I know I haven't recovered them all. I may be lucky to say I've recovered twenty percent? Fifteen? Who knows?" He grew quiet after a few moments, then shrugged; "I remember parts of my life, sporadic ones, and the end--" The Saiyan paused again before continuing as if nothing had happened; "Regardless, my powers are tied to my missing memories as well. The easiest way I can recommend you trying to get yours back is giving it time, as well as reading about events or trying to meet people. Those sometimes help jog memories in amnesiacs."
Tienizard — Yesterday at 12:11 PM
"I see," Garou nodded, silencing the internal voice of doubt. The implications that Soul made were worrying, but they were communicating now somehow so whatever end there was couldn't have been permanent.
"I hope your memories continue to return. I don't know where I'll wake up once we leave this 'Astral Realm'. Maybe it will all come flooding back. Or maybe I'll have to take it back like you're doing now." Garou rolled his shoulders back, taking a straight posture and looking directly at the men across from him. "I think I'll go get started on that. Thank you."
Within moments, Garou's eyes opened in the real world as he left Soul and Zyren behind to face the mysteries of a life left behind.
