As Launch’s fist met the body of the android she was fighting, an explosion of kinetic energy was unleashed, sending a shockwave around the area. It was so surprising to Launch that she actually froze for a moment, unsure how to wrap her head around what had happened. Was this some kind of defense mechanism of her opponent, to self-destruct when touched? But that wouldn’t make any sense since he hadn’t actually blown up. It was best described as some kind of exchange of static electricity, but on a way bigger scale.
In her moment of indecision, the robot took full advantage, and began fighting back. His massive fists clobbered her chest and face with a speed and vigor that suggested he was not trying to put her down in one hit, but rather wear her down into compliance. He was still trying to get her to concede the fight - but if this mammoth’s goal wasn’t to kill her, what on Earth was the point of his hunting her down in the middle of the night to stop her from enjoying a fun evening with her friends? Why beat her senseless?
Another flash went through her mind - a reminder that he probably worked for those Red Ribbon Assholes. She couldn’t think of what goal they could have in simply ruining her day and forcing her to go to a hospital, but the men in their ranks seemed petty enough for something moronic like that. Not that she really had time to be debating the merits of her getting assaulted by a man while out with her friends.
Funny enough, even though she was continuing to take damage, it almost seemed to matter less to her in that moment than it had before; it was as though Launch’s initial reaction to the assault had been less about how much pain and tolerance she could actually take and more about the shock of what was happening to her. This didn’t click in the moment for her - and perhaps it never would - but the people watching from the road noticed. Her mood had shifted from one of a helpless damsel making a last ditch effort to survive... to almost that of a bloodied boxer, injured, but not even close to down for the count yet.
Suddenly, the android’s body language shifted, and the quick jabs and body blows ended; its entire body began rotating, and the woman noticed his leg lift up menacingly - something much more dangerous was on its way. As the android’s shadow loomed over her and he twirled with a deadly, inhuman grace, all Launch could do in defense was press her arms tightly to her chest, keeping her fists just under her chin. With her elbows tucked at her sides and her arms forming a vertically-protective barrier over her midsection, she was ready for when the android’s leg made contact with her.
The human felt herself skid backwards a few inches, and her arms throbbed from the pain of the metallic thigh slamming into her, but she was okay. Her ribs weren’t broken and she was still upright. Through squinted eyes from briefly wincing, she noticed that - just as elegantly - the android flipped midair so that he landed on the leg he’d just hit her with, and began to rotate in the opposite direction.
If anything, this incoming kick was going to have more inertia guiding it, and the human worried about it making contact with her still sore arms. In a snap judgment, she herself twirled (though less gracefully, as her bare soles scraped on the asphalt) and in the nick of time, managed to have her back face the Red Ribbon Robot. Launch inhaled, filling her lungs with oxygen, and then held it in, knowing what was coming.
The kick rocked her, forcing her to take a step forward to rebalance herself. Launch’s jaw flew open and some air was beaten out of her body in a wheeze, but it didn’t put her down for any amount of time - since she had taken such a full breath before, even after the kick had made her wheeze slightly, she still had enough air that Launch wasn’t forced to try and catch her breath back. Instead, she was able to jump right into action fighting back in the moment that the android needed to plan another assault.
Now, both of her hands were glowing with that same shimmering green glow, though there was no time to worry about it. Perhaps it was her spirit energy aiding her, or perhaps her eyes were permanently damaged from the fight, or perhaps the robot was sucking the energy from her body and leaving her weaker and weaker with every punch. It was impossible to tell, and not worth a thought. All she could focus on was getting some more breathing room, and her previous punch sending the android scooting back had given her faith that any new attacks she made could be just as devastating as if she was using her ax.
Hunching her shoulders, Launch began to throw two powerful punches towards the robot’s abdomen, before jumping into the air; while midair, she was actually high enough to be eye level with her fighter and took full advantage. Her fists balled as tight as they could be, Launch sent two destructive punches one after another at his chin. In her mind’s eye, she imagined cracking through the plastic covering and being able to see the gears and bolts whizzing underneath. As Launch dropped back to the ground, she licked a drop of sweat from her lips and grinned to herself. Her entire body felt like a giant bruise, but she was having almost as much fun as the last time she’d been in a rage room and let loose. Actions:

In the heart of the chaotic battle, the world seemed to blur into a frantic maelstrom of motion and light. The combatants' speeds had transcended ordinary limits, rendering the flashing emergency lights a luminescent backdrop to their electrifying encounter. The cacophonous background noise of sirens and commotion was dulled, relegated to mere white noise as Android 16's focus zeroed in on his formidable human adversary.
As their ferocious duel escalated, Launch's wild, unbridled state seemed to grant her newfound prowess. Her fists glowed with a potent, ki-infused energy, a stark testament to her relentless determination to prevail. Android 16 couldn't help but acknowledge the efficacy of her transformation; his initial success in their battle had been undeniable, but it was now evident that his previous attempts to incapacitate her permanently had fallen short. It was a valuable lesson for future confrontations, one he would not soon forget.
The mechanical guardian's proximity to his fierce opponent meant he had little time to devise a meaningful strategy to counter her impending strike. Instinctively, he pivoted his body in a desperate attempt to mitigate the damage. The resounding impact of her punch was still explosive, and smoke billowed from the point of contact, obscuring their clash. The relentless barrage of punches continued to find their mark, each blow sending Android 16 staggering backward. However, the small consolation lay in the fact that each strike's force propelled him away, depriving Launch of the opportunity to maximise the full power of her momentum.
Yet, as the android buckled down to one knee, clutching his battered torso, his gaze remained fierce, fixed upon the indomitable blonde warrior. This battle had transcended mere rivalry; it was a clash of wills, a testament to their unyielding spirits. The android rose to his feet, determination etched in every line of his mechanical frame. Without hesitation, he began to ascend into the air, floating effortlessly.
It was a critical observation he had made. Launch was undoubtedly a skilled fighter, but her lack of precise ki control was evident. Her actions, particularly her erratic reactions, betrayed an incongruence between her newfound abilities and what she perceived she was capable of. Android 16 recognized this as an opportunity. The tables had turned, and he was prepared to exploit this weakness to his advantage in a bid to regain the upper hand.
Rising higher into the sky, the wind rushing over his body and through his hair, Android 16 assessed the situation with a calculated calmness, witnessing the full extent of their destructive encounter under the light of the moon. It became evident to him that if Launch intended to continue her assault, she would need the ability to fly—a skill he wasn't certain she had mastered yet. This realisation opened up new possibilities for him, a strategic advantage he was prepared to exploit to gain control of the battle.
Utilising his augmented vision, the sentinel focused intently on his target. His mechanical eyes, far superior to any human's, zoomed in on the petite woman with precision. The increased distance posed no hindrance to his robotic gaze, and with impeccable accuracy, he locked onto her figure.
With the cold, calculating precision that defined his combat strategy, Android 16 initiated his plan. In rapid succession, twin beams of energy erupted from his cold, grey eyes. The beams of destruction serving as deliberate bait to draw her attention and provoke a reaction.
Android 16 granted Launch a fleeting moment to respond in order to best calculate where she would move to next, utilising his speed to maneuverer in the air for a better vantage point at striking her. His artificial eyes glowed with an intense, fiery crimson, and with unwavering focus, he unleashed a third beam of energy, the artificial skin surrounding his eyes crackling slightly under the intense heat. The streams of crimson energy streaked down toward her with deadly intent.

With every supercharged punch, Launch could feel the android sliding backwards against his will, and with every confident step forward to follow through with the next swing, she began to feel a rising confidence in herself once more. She still knew so little about this encounter that her natural arrogance was rocked to its core, and her ability to read the situation could only rise and fall on a moment to moment basis. However, currently, this was a moment that she could hold up as one of taking control, such that she actually felt flashes of herself take hold. And then Lime Green Jacket fell to one knee, clutching his cold, metallic heart. The tides had shifted.
Under her golden curls, Launch started to sneer, a look she typically reserved for whatever schmuck was about to get robbed by her so that she could afford the money for a new Capsule home. “Ye-- huh?!” The human had barely managed to begin the vicious insult she had planned before the robot stood upright, chin turned upwards, and began flying towards the sky. Launch blinked for a second, not seeing any vehicle or sign of smoke to indicate how he was shooting through the air, but didn’t think too much on it - of course there was some kind of mechanical flight option built into it.
After the initial shock of the moment, Launch slowly spun on her toes, eyes scanning the confused looks of everyone in the crowd. The air was devoid of any noise save for the lone police sirens. Dozens of faces stared at her, wide-eyed and confused. The police, even, lowered their guns in confusion - though they did not holster those weapons. Finally, Launch allowed the words to escape her cracked lips, barely above as whisper.
“Is it over?”
After a few seconds, someone called out to her from the sidewalk. “Hey!” Launch turned to face... whoever spoke. There were too many people for her to easily know who spoke. “Are you okay?” She glanced down at herself with scatterbrained vision: she looked like an absolute mess. After a moment of looking at the blood, grime, and ripped cloth that clung to her, the blonde looked back up, her emerald eyes providing no answers to the questions everyone had.
“I... hell yeah it is!” Her enthusiasm was infectious enough that a handful of people whooped in response to her announcement, though most people still remained quiet. That was fine with her; she wasn’t necessarily trying to have her Rocky moment - Launch just wanted to go soak her feet and sleep. She walked back over to where the fighting had initiated by the sidewalk and immediately spotted her purse.
Nobody approached her, and the people closest to her actually retreated a few steps as she zeroed in on her prize, before digging through her bag and pulling out a pair of simple, black flats - her planned way to end the night after her indulgences anyway. She slipped the shoes on quickly, her toes thanking her for not being forced to dig into gravel and asphalt anymore, and spun around.
She took a single step forward, before a twinkle of light hit her field of vision and two white-hot laser beams pierced her in her midsection, causing her to howl in pain. Stepping back instinctively, the human looked up into the sky, trying to see anything; despite the night sky being as clear as it had been for days, there was no sign of who - or what - had hit her. That said, it didn’t take a genius for her to realize that her contest for dominance against the android was far from complete; what had looked like a desperate retreat was instead a tactical withdrawal, leaving himself unable to be easily attacked.
Why was this happening?! Her blood actually briefly grew hot with the unfairness of it all. Couldn’t a girl just do what she wanted and not be bothered at the end of the night? Earth was supposed to be about freedom, not... whatever this was. She didn’t even have a way to fight back, standing in the road awkwardly like a target to her invisible foe. “Hey - think fast!”
Launch turned at the last second to see a capsule flying through the air; swiftly, she caught it, but didn’t click the button to release yet. “It’s a jetpack! I’m actually from out of town, so it’s a rental,” the voice explained. “Kick his metal behind for us!”
Launch grinned toothily, before chancing a glance back at the sky. She happened to look at exactly the right moment, because already - hardly ten seconds after the first assault - she saw another flash of light glinting against the moonlight. There wasn’t enough time for her to aim her blaster at the beam in defense, so all she did was raise her arms over her head to protect her and felt the heat and pressure when the plasma struck her, making her bend her knees slightly before straightening up again.
Glancing back at the crowd, she winked vaguely at where she thought the mysterious voice had been, and clicked the capsule, causing a gust of smoke and the jetpack (dinged up and dusty, but functional) to appear in midair. Launch gripped it, pulling the straps around her shoulders, before pushing the big, red button on the side. It made almost no noise as she shot through the air, rising higher and higher.
The human kept her head on a swivel, on the lookout for that green eyesore to let her know she was headed in the right direction. Quickly enough, she saw it, and tilted her body in the direction of her foe. Within moments, she was there, and her heart rate began rising again. She raised her fist, feeling the same tingle she did earlier, and seeing a similar emerald tint glowing around her hands; she would definitely need to investigate what was going on, but for now, she was simply glad for whatever spirit was giving her extra oomph in her punches.
Once close enough, Launch quickly tried three punches in a ‘left, right, left’ fashion. All three were aimed at the robot’s jaw for maximum effect. She was starting to enjoy the feeling of flying through the air like this - and making a note to steal a jetpack later in the week for just that reason - when the tech made a sound eerily similar to that of a cough, and suddenly she was looking at the robot’s chest.
Another cough, and she was looking at his shoes.
A third cough, and it died, with Launch falling through the air at a speed that actually made her a bit nervous. Who gives somebody a jetpack with no fuel in it? she thought to herself, too annoyed to even feel fear as she fell hundreds of feet. It felt like a few seconds, but it also felt like an eternity, but eventually, Launch hit the ground again. Despite the height from which she fell, she was relatively unharmed, doing a duck-and-roll to keep her knees from giving out.
Unsure what else to do with the pack, she shrugged it off her shoulders and let it fall to the ground in the middle of the street. It was the problem of renter-girl now, not Launch. She, in all honesty, did not trust herself to take her eyes out of the sky, preparing for the next assault to come from her murderous robot friend. Actions:

The unexpected twist in the battle left Android 16 momentarily stunned. The last thing he had anticipated was for Launch to receive aid from the very public he had sworn to protect. In his mechanised logic, she was a villain, a figure who thrived on the misfortune of others, but now, bystanders had unexpectedly sided with her. It raised the unsettling question of whether these people were aware of her criminal tendencies or if they shared similarly shadowy inclinations.
The Colonel's voice seeped with frustration as he muttered, "A jetpack? Who the hell gave her a jetpack?" He watched the unfolding scene with increasing exasperation. What was initially meant to be a swift and decisive encounter was now dragging on, defying their initial calculations. Android 16, a formidable mechanical warrior, designed to defend Earth from grave threats, found himself grappling with the seemingly insurmountable task of subduing a seemingly innocuous young woman.
Colonel Crimson's frustration spilled over as he vented, "Get it together, 16, you're embarrassing us." The Colonel's expectations for their creation was nothing short of exceptional, and the current situation was far from meeting those standards.
Before Android 16 could heed the Colonel's vexed admonishment and regain his focus, he was forced to defend against the lithe woman's relentless assault. Her fists hammered into his midsection, the powerful blows causing vibrations to reverberate through his metallic frame. He found solace in the protective armour that enveloped him but had to swiftly raise his arms to block the third strike.
Meanwhile, Launch's jetpack began to betray her. It sputtered and coughed, then abruptly cut out altogether. She began her descent toward the ground, her aerial advantage disappearing in an instant. This was the android's opportunity to seize the upper hand.
Shaking off the vicious assault he had just endured, Android 16 rushed toward the plummeting Launch with remarkable speed. His colossal hands clasped together, swinging down at Launch like a jackhammer. He aimed to hasten her descent and send her crashing toward the already battered street below.
Colonel Crimson, now with a hint of grim satisfaction in his voice, issued new orders. "Use the public," he commanded with a sinister grin. "Let's turn them against her."
Initiating Voice Amplification Protocol...
With unerring efficiency, Android 16's mechanical voice, amplified to carry over great distances, rang out with an undeniable authority. "I understand what you must think," he began, addressing the bewildered crowd. "A large man attacking a young woman in the street. But I can assure you, this is not unprovoked. The blonde woman you see before you is a criminal. She has robbed many people and establishments and is a wanted individual. If you do not believe me, seek confirmation from law enforcement."
In the midst of his announcement, there was a subtle shift in the air, a ripple of uncertainty coursed through the gathering crowd as they exchanged murmurs and sidelong glances. Their gaze shifted from the imposing mechanical warrior to the seemingly innocent blonde woman. The once-clear lines of the battle had blurred into a murky, morally ambiguous grey, and the android's calculated manoeuvre had successfully sowed the seeds of doubt among the onlookers.
The public's reactions to Android 16's revelation were a mixture of shock, disbelief, and dawning realisation. Some onlookers stared in wide-eyed astonishment, caught between their initial support for Launch and the damning accusations now levelled against her. Others, their expressions twisted with disappointment, began to understand that their supposed "hero" was nothing more than a shadowy figure with a criminal past.
However, the most dramatic shift came from the police officers who had arrived at the scene. They rapidly pieced together the identity of the woman before them, confirming her status as a wanted criminal with their superiors. Without hesitation, they withdrew their firearms, aiming them squarely at the now exposed blonde target.
"Freeze! You're under arrest!" their voices boomed in unison, a stern command ringing through the air. The officers sought whatever cover they could find, their vigilant eyes trained on the woman who had once been their enigmatic saviour. Cautious not to get too close, they maintained a safe distance, well-aware of the incredible display of power that had unfolded before them.
With the police assuming control of the situation, Android 16 seized the opportunity afforded by the shift in the atmosphere. Maintaining his aerial vantage point, he initiated his attack. Opening his mechanical maw wide, he felt the energy churn and surge within him, building up to a crescendo. With great intensity, a beam of searing energy erupted from his mouth, aimed squarely at his target.
Yet, he wasn't finished. The moment the first portion of the energy beam ceased, Android 16 summoned his formidable energy once more. With unwavering focus, he unleashed a secondary onslaught, a relentless continuation of the same beam of energy.

“I understand what you must think.”
The ground shook from the force of the voice booming across the city block, and dozens of heads turned upward in confusion. The android had amplified his voice to that of a wrathful god speaking to his unruly populace - and in a lot of ways, that seemed to be exactly the vibe he was going for in what words came next.
“I can assure you, this is not unprovoked.”
What a complete goofy, lying to everybody like this, Launch thought to herself, rolling her eyes.
“...a criminal...”
The blond’s heart began pounding, and her eyes immediately flitted away from the skies to look at the crowd of people around her. The moment the word had been said, her gaze focused on the armed coppers, and she watched in horror as they began focusing on her, speaking into their radios... and recognizing her. Her eyes darted back and forth between the rows of police, and it took every ounce of her self control to not raise her blaster in defense.
So this android had been some kind of.. Robo-police, and was hunting her. That made sense at least. Maybe it had recognized her face in some algorithm, or maybe somebody she thought was her friend had tipped people off to her location. That still didn’t explain him being a Red Ribbon android, though. Was the Army working with the government, now? Or contracting out to them? It didn’t really add up in the moment, but she could feel that she was getting closer to the actual truth of the matter.
Whatever the specifics of the situation didn’t matter; she had lost the faith of the crowd. While she was starting to gain confidence in her ability to retire the hunk of aluminum she had been beating up on, there was no way for her to also fight an entire block of people and walk away unscathed. She didn’t even want to; Launch really enjoyed drinking at this spot, and didn’t want to give up Whiskey Road just yet.
Not to mention whatever these new powers manifesting in her was. For her whole life, Launch had depended on rough-and-tumble street smarts and an arsenal of weapons to get her way when tough talk wouldn’t work, but if she could start shooting laser beams out of her hands and feet like those martial artists that trained with Roshi and them, life would be a lot easier for her. She might even learn to fly one day - that would really tickle her sides. Getting arrested would put a damper on her quickly changing body.
The android hadn’t spoken for a while. Launch’s eyes narrowed and she glanced back up at the sky suspiciously. She couldn’t see anything, but she felt an uneasiness in the pit of her gut that let her know the android had clearly made that announcement for more than just a show; he was planning a big finish.
“Freeze! You’re under arrest!”
Despite the fear she heard at those words, Launch didn’t move her gaze from the sky. She had no intention of getting locked up if she could help it, and the key to getting out of her situation wasn’t in dealing with the police, but dealing with the dark angel above her. If she could get the robot to stop his incessant assault to detain her, she still felt confident that she could slip into the shadows and escape capture. Launch had been evading arrest for nearly a decade now; this was just a uniquely difficult night.
She felt an intense pressure from above, and saw the light as a beam of energy fell from the heavens. She was starting to accept these new magical abilities she possessed unquestioned, and squeezed her neck muscles until she felt that familiar tingling feeling she’d felt in her hands earlier in the night. Opening her jaws, a massive blob of green plasma filled her vision as an energy blast came from her mouth, flying upward at the flash of light. A deep explosion blocked out a portion of the night sky when the two blasts met, and sparks flew in all directions, a mixture of emerald green and stark white.
As the sparks faded, she noticed that yet another identical blast was bearing down, and a repeat of the first explosion took place a moment later. Shooting energy lasers from her throat wasn’t fun for her, despite the excitement of learning a new skill in the moment - it gave the human a scratchy feeling along her esophageal muscles and made her feel like she needed a glass of water to wash down the remnants of plasma that may have gotten left behind.
Deciding to leave that be, she quickly raised her right arm, where her blaster had been still attached, and shot two standard neon-blue energy balls up exactly following the same path of trajectory as everything else that was raining down on her. She simply didn’t have good enough vision to see the android from that far apart, but she had to trust that if she shot at him in the same spot he was attacking her, it would do... something.
“You have five more seconds before we open fire!”
Oh right. She’d almost forgotten about them.
Launch bit her lip, not having much time to react. Instinctively, she decided to go for her typical move - aggression before anything else, to dominate the situation. She pointed the blaster directly at the row of policemen aiming at her. “Can’t a girl just have a quiet night out?” she asked sarcastically. The officers stiffened; they had standard-issue weapons, but these lasers the robot and the blonde were firing at each other appeared to pack significantly more punch.
“Drop your pistols and back up - slow! No funny business...” She was keeping her eyes locked on the officers, but her ears were aimed at the sky, and she was still waiting for that quickly-becoming-familiar feeling of energy attacks approaching. Things were spiraling, but Launch wasn’t going to admit she was too in over her head until forced to. Actions:

“It worked!” The Colonel's triumphant exclamation reverberated through the control centre as he savoured the satisfaction of having potentially turned the tide of the battle once more. A smug grin played across his lips as he took another sip of his liquor, reclining comfortably in his chair.
"That gives me an idea," he continued, his sharp mind racing with possibilities. He turned his attention to one of his subordinates, an engineer who had played a pivotal role in installing new features in the android.
"You mentioned programming some personality adjustments, didn't you?" the Colonel inquired, leaning forward with intrigue. His curiosity was piqued, and he saw an opportunity to leverage Android 16's unique abilities in a more crowd-pleasing manner.
The engineer nodded in affirmation. "Yes, sir," he confirmed. "I installed what I called a 'hero mode' into 16. I thought it might come in handy in certain situations, especially given his tendency to be a bit blunt."
Colonel Crimson's eyes lit up with a renewed sense of purpose as he turned his attention back to the screen, his gaze laser-focused on the unfolding battle. "Android 16, activate your hero mode," he commanded with a sense of anticipation. "Let's fully embrace this 'saviour of the people' persona. We need to rally the people behind us."
The mechanical warrior acknowledged the command with a subtle nod, his internal systems swiftly processing the switch.
Activating Hero Mode...
In the blink of an eye, Android 16 underwent a remarkable transformation. His demeanour shifted dramatically, shedding the cold and calculating exterior of a machine for something that wouldn't have been out of place in a comic book. His eyes blazed with newfound warmth, and a broad, benevolent smile spread across his face.
"Fear not, citizens!" Android 16 proclaimed, his voice no longer monotone but infused with confidence and a booming resonance. "Hope has arrived! Because I am here!"
“What in the-” Colonel Crimson watched on, not quite believing what he was seeing, turning his attention from the screen, back to the engineer.
“What?...I got the idea from an anime show I watch,” He said nonchalantly, shrugging his shoulders, clearly pleased with his work.
“This had better work…”
The contrast was striking—the mechanical guardian had transitioned from an imposing figure of destruction to a symbol of peace and protection. For a moment, parts of the crowd didn’t know what to make of the sudden change, a little confused by the cyborg’s bizarre transformation, although there were some that clearly welcomed the change, imbued with a sense of hope as they began cheering for their newfound hero.
The transformed Android 16 demonstrated his newfound confidence and prowess as he faced the incoming energy attack. With precise and measured movements, he swiped at the ball of energy, deflecting it skilfully away from the bustling crowd below. The blast harmlessly dissipated high in the sky, sparing the innocent bystanders from harm. He tried to raise his arms defensively, ready to contend with the second blast that followed, but wasn't quick enough before the explosion struck him, creating a burst of energy that rippled around him, but the android remained steadfast.
With his enhanced vision, Android 16 noted that Launch was momentarily distracted by the police officers who had levelled their firearms at her. He seized this opportune moment to descend with unwavering determination. His broad, heroic smile still adorned his face as he hurtled toward her, his descent hastened by the brilliant white aura that enveloped his frame. He utilised his metal head as a weapon, poised to strike.
The crowd watched in awe and anticipation as Android 16, their newfound champion, swooped down upon the beleaguered blonde fighter. His approach was swift and precise, his movements reminiscent of a true superhero. With unwavering resolve, he initiated a rapid sequence of punches, a left-right jab followed by a powerful cross, all aimed squarely at Launch's jaw.
Unwilling to relent, the cyborg swiftly pivoted, his metal leg cutting through the air with razor-like precision, targeting her midsection. The crowd, swept up in the excitement of the moment, erupted into cheers, their voices rising in support of the heroic android.

He was falling out of the sky - without even looking, she could tell - but barely had time to react. In fact, she didn’t even have the time to look up and see exactly how he was approaching her, instead just chancing what she thought was the most likely defense for herself/ She took both her arms and crossed them over her head in protection, and the blonde knew she made the right choice when she felt a painful crunch from the metallic skull crushing her fleshy human arms. Launch winced in pain, but was much more concerned about feeling the ground rise up to meet her ankles - she had been pushed several inches into the road.
A cloud of dust rose up as a result of the impact, swirling around the human’s legs and coiling up her body. She spared a glance down... and immediately regretted it. There was no dangerous sight to behold, or vicious injury to her person that made her sick; Launch honestly would have preferred something as straightforward as that. Instead, with horror, she felt her far-too-sensitive nose twitch.
She didn’t have much interaction with Other Launch, but for them to work together as at least a semi-functioning adult, they had written a series of letters to each other a few years back; Launch had been incredibly sick, which had been a convenient way for them to have the time to sit back and take stock of how they wanted to live life. The full discussion had involved lots of questions about all sorts of long term goals, but the important reason for Launch’s fear was in their general agreement to do their best to avoid switching while in public and/or compromising positions.
As people cheered, the android closed in for a physical assault with Launch still trapped in the street, her flats half-molded into the asphalt. This could safely be labeled a compromising position. Her head leaned back and eyes closed at the same time as the android’s two punches approached her jawline.
“..CHOO!”
A miniature explosion went off, between the force of the punch and the aftereffects of the sneeze; Launch flew back through the air, so fast that the shift in hair color was impossible to spot until after she’d crashed into the ground. Groaning to herself, Launch stood up, her teal eyes full of a mixture of hurt and confusion. Her entire body language had changed; no longer stood the confident warrior and career criminal, and in its place was a tipsy college student, trying to figure out what had happened to the guy she had been chatting with.
Or why she was covered in bruises and bloodstains.
Or why her dress was in absolute tatters and rows of people were staring at her.
There was a lot for her to quickly try to figure out, really - but there was no time. Before even the first question could leave Launch’s lips, some towering redhead - perhaps 7 feet tall - kicked her in the gut with enough force for her to wheeze out every last drop of air she had left in her system. Tears welled up in Launch’s eyes, and when the leg moved away from her, she felt an unstoppable urge to eject everything she’d eaten over the last few days.
For some reason, nothing came up.
As Launch dry-heaved into the road, snottily crying and feeling like a giant boo-boo, the crowd of people, who were moments before cheering on the destruction of the human in the streets, were now quieting down. Where had the blonde woman gone? How had she been replaced with this sweet girl without them noticing? What kind of fresh trickery was this? And, with a slowly growing rumbling through the people... why hadn’t their hero noticed that he was now harming an innocent civilian?
The police at least weren’t immediately fooled by this. They had heard stories of Launch’s ability to transform. They weren’t in any better position to handle her, though; as the human looked nothing like the wanted posters, it was impossible to charge her with any crimes she’d committed while in her blonde state. Nervously, they waited, hoping that perhaps the android could have a solution that wouldn’t incriminate an innocent - or allow the blonde to get away with it again.
Into the silence, Launch still wailed in between her gags, unable to do anything but wallow in her pain and silently curse Blonde Launch for whatever had happened since the ‘switch’. Actions:
