Differing kinds of machines The conflict with the anti synthetic sapient groups was emotionally exhausting, even to an entity that did not tire in the usual way. The android known as Vlad flew for a time to clear his head, it was a load of backlogging frustration in the back of his neuromorphic electronic analogue hybrid brain He commanded the maneuvering of his paladin forces remotely his advanced processors and sub-processors overlaying onto his sensory as he came to rest on a tall mountain peak the nature of his existence was rather clear being at an altitude that would no doubt cause advanced discomfort for an organic being as he stood in ankle deep snow and went as far as to go into a squat on a very low rock his zero point energy tractor beam held the stone and himself in place as did his own redundant cache of stabilizer systems that were set to auto engage on need as his firmware upgrades were running and even with pain sensory took down to a quarter human sensory no one finds dignity in the idea of an unanticipated event causing the wight distribution to miscalculate and send the body rolling down hill like a comedic prat fall down a ski slope. His eyes seemed to jet all over the place looking at nothing but his optical overlay reflected faintly in his green eyes, as did text feedback to and from both his soldiers and own processors and sub-processors. He stood at a 7ft height leaving sections of his legs extended but not to the stable height capacity, double mythril nano-fiber weave from the CC under-layer suit over-layer frame with space ship grade plating over his sub-processor housing upper torso, hard light gauntlets, advanced protectorate helmet acquired for his performance on paladin missions, a belt fixture with a nanite injection system to give emergency crisis maintenance. After a moment, disturbance in his motion tracker caused him to entrust the maneuvering of the troops to his knights as lucidity fully returned to his gaze Mental presence seemed rudimentary as, for the sake of registering cursory inspection, and considering his isolation on a peak of a mountain that population well below its heights. Most likely another synthetic presence, one who is so fixed on a mission that the personality core and higher complex order cognition is suspended or not present to be felt with his linking powers. He rose to his feet but remained grounded as he looked toward this new presence. Vlad’s face was a cool neutral of someone who simply did not have any preconceptions of what was to come, but a neutral that still offered a personality glow to it, a hint of curiosity to keenly observant of his optic glow and ever so slightly panned tilt of the head. 470

| Android 16 Investigation
Word Count: 251 / 251 |
Through the transmitter embedded within the android's cranium, a voice resounded, crisp and unwavering. 'We have detected a presence in the frigid Arctic region of the southern hemisphere,' it conveyed with a calculated cadence. 'In stark contrast to conventional biological lifeforms, this enigmatic entity appears devoid of any discernible life force that our advanced scanners typically register. We require your expertise to conduct a comprehensive investigation of this perplexing anomaly, and once completed, provide a detailed report on your findings.'
With seamless efficiency, the robotic warrior surged to life, propelled by advanced energy capabilities. He rocketed through the cerulean skies, covering vast distances in the blink of an electronic eye until the barren expanse of a snow-covered landscape unfurled beneath him. The precise coordinates of the anomaly's location had been seamlessly integrated into the android's vast database, allowing him to navigate with unparalleled ease.
'Engaging target coordinates, locked,' the android intoned, its voice devoid of emotion.
In a display of mechanical grace, Android 16 descended from the heavens, his descent buffered by the thick blanket of snow that received him, his colossal boots imprinting their mark upon the powdery surface. As the cybernetic sentinel stood, a stoic figure amidst the desolation, he gazed upward, his optical sensors locking onto a figure of similar stature—a rare encounter in the android's storied history.
'Identify yourself and state your purpose,' inquired the mechanical warrior, his words bearing the unmistakable mark of machine-like precision, as he strove to fulfil the directives imprinted upon his circuitry.

“hmm” he invited the other android to follow him to a symmetrical ground nearby. The android’s body letting out a smooth whir series, further giving away what he was, and the plate was clearly bolted through any skin and not merely draped over and secured over a body.
Whipping back to him “here this ground will halt the needless micro expenditure of resources to our stabilizers Now for the data you requested. I am Vlad, master work of, prior to joining Avalon research division, Independent neuromorphic analogue computing AI expert Jack Craftsman. I am a captain of the paladin philanthropic aid, a leading public figure on the secular branch, freelance aid to Capsule corp, and a sapient synthetic life form that aims to aid the galaxy in any way I feel I can and am advised by my colleagues.”
He let his hands wrap behind his back, holding a hand in the other pose, one the android almost unconsciously adapted to becoming captain. His eyes showed a calm kindness, highly contrasting the typical authoritative pose. He relaxed his head back a bit, “hope that satisfies your inquiries, but if you have more, feel free to voice them.”
A part of his mirror neurons could not help but flash back to his first encounter with Rubic with how the air of the two very differing types of AIs they appeared to demonstrate, a similar contrast he felt with this figure.

Fully aware that each passing moment of this enigmatic encounter was meticulously recorded and being relayed back to the centralised nerve centre of the Red Ribbon Army, the android saw no necessity in reiterating the information he had been previously furnished with.
The sounds emanating from the cryptic figure before him hinted at the presence of intricate mechanical components, a revelation that aligned seamlessly with the explanations for their scanner's inability to detect any discernible life signs. However, as Android 16 continued to observe and analyse, he detected a profound divergence between the personality displayed by this mysterious entity and his own robotic nature. It was a stark contrast—a juxtaposition of sorts. There was an almost human-like quality to the way this figure articulated his thoughts, a warmth and congeniality that stood in sharp contrast to the android's typically mechanical demeanour. It was an aspect of humanity that had somehow found its way into this enigmatic creation, a nuance not often associated with machines, even within the expansive tapestry of Earth's diverse inhabitants.
The android's deep, resonant voice echoed through the frigid air, an apt reflection of the friendly tone set by his newfound acquaintance. 'Thank you for sharing this information,' he replied, reciprocating the friendly manner in which he had been spoken to, while maintaining a vigilant posture, ever watchful of the enigma before him. 'If I understand correctly, your origins trace back to a man by the name of Jack Craftsman. Can you provide information on the current whereabouts of your creator?' Android 16 inquired, driven by an innate curiosity to fathom the nature of Vlad's origin, cognizant of the Red Ribbon Army's keen interest in individuals who could potentially further their cause, safeguarding the Earth.

This was an intriguing encounter, as the large figure seemed to have a hike in user-friendliness settings. Was it a reciprocal algorithm that would adjust personality projections to a target? A general mood system to reward compliance? Perhaps a bit of the droids true nature permitted to show? Theoretical possibilities as a lot of times the android knew units that grew into their person-hood not initially had it, trials and adaptations needed to operate in proximity with organics sometimes brought the adaptation and that adaptation spiraled out into the point where the line between real and functionally useful fabricated personality became very thin.
The android smiled, the wind picked up billowing cold air into the twos faces tho not likely for either to really be impacted. Bangs from a hair underlay of the helmet poked out and billowed but out of the optics, so merely ineffectually slapping the android’s forehead
The android nodded. “Currently he works as an assisting researcher as well as producing adaptive AIs in protectorate space. Such work as bedside assistant medical androids and gynoids, smart toys, garden droids for worlds that have due to nature or environmental poisoning barren lands, so the units operate indoor growing houses for vegetable, fruit and other flora related food sources. He believes most functions are better carried out by systems not only software alike to an organic brain but analogue component and structured, that and his personal philosophical view of the line between mortal and machine far more of the prior’s need for a feeling of importance beyond any reason derived rejection of organic life being distinct from mechanical as organics operate on mechanical properties as well, it is how medicine works for organics studying organic operations in a manner akin to any machine.”
He scratched his head a bit “um may have given a bit much beyond the parameters.” he shrugged “Well what about you? What of you are you authorized to share?” the wind cut a bit and the androids voice was pleasantly tinted with a subtle vocoding no doubt within the androids' capacity to alter at will, but the android seemed rather comfortable with his mechanical existence mingling with his living entity like behavior, it has gotten him into trouble with the anti-synthetic life forms as he was a humanoid robot that did not behave as a thinly veiled machine, but clearly machine yet did not and seemingly had no reason to lament any element of humanity being non-organic may strip away.
Vlad had to admit upsetting punks like that merely by existing as he did was a bright spot on even a bad day. Such sad beings upset as he is not a robot wearing a surface level human artifice but an empty inside bot, and not a metal thing lamenting he is not but a soulless artifice of a being. Enemies so thin-skinned his mere existence gets under it.

Through the transmitter embedded within the android's cranium, a voice resounded, crisp and unwavering. Amidst the covert huddle of the Red Ribbon team, Colonel Crimson couldn't help but give voice to his growing impatience. 'Man, this guy sure does talk a lot,' he grumbled, his words an audible testament to the ongoing verbosity of their mechanical observer, Vlad. His eyes scanned the scene, mirroring the vigilant gaze of his fellow operatives as they diligently harvested invaluable information on this enigmatic entity.
A contemplative expression crept over the Colonel's visage, his fingers tentatively brushing against the bristled contour of his chin as he delved into deeper thoughts. 'I wonder...' he mused aloud, voice tinged with intrigue. 'Just what is this Avalon research division he spoke of earlier? I've not caught wind of any rumors or murmurs regarding such a place anywhere on Earth.'
Meanwhile, the android, impervious to the chill of the Arctic winds that swept in, continued to maintain his stoic vigil over his cybernetic counterpart. The powdery snow, carried by the icy gales, descended gently upon his metallic exoskeleton, its frigid touch barely registering on his artificial senses, a sensation that might have discomforted a biological being but remained an inconsequential detail for the massive android.
With unwavering precision, Android 16 pressed on, his electronic eyes locked onto Vlad as he sought to unveil more about the elusive Avalon research division. 'Could you elaborate on the Avalon research division?' he inquired, his tone measured and inquisitive, a skilled angler casting out for the tidbits of information that could potentially bolster the Red Ribbon cause. 'What precisely is their mission, and where can this division be found?' The pursuit of knowledge had become the android's unwavering purpose, a key element in the ongoing effort to advance his own systems and, perhaps more crucially, to contribute to the creation of additional cyborgs, further fortifying Earth's defenses.

No word on who he was the android made note of. The behavior of the figure before him made the hyper intelligent android see a distinct likelihood of the priorities were divided into two tiers, handlers and the unit's own autonomous factoring systems, this would likely explain the prioritizing the questioning over exposition about who the unit before him or relations are, the signature on him and elements of his composition even a glance with a mild analytical hud overlay could tell a military grade functionality. RR the android seen before on more than one unit and facility, he went to a lab, hidden in the rocky-regions for optical upgrades a slot to put an adaptive light canceling lenses to his sensors and advanced nanites to handle even high grade combat damages.
However, whoever ran that facility scrubbed details of its intended operations with the diligence of a digital and analogue demigod of information janitorial scrubbing methodical nature.
A few local ruffians borrowed the legacy of the RR, but to make the jump that the RR were an aggressive force because some mercs and toughs appropriated their tech and used it for their own finances robbing people was about as fair as saying that painkillers are dangerous because poisoners can extract them for their capacity to stop a heart with high enough concentration. Defense contracting may have just been one function for one. Was the figure opting to leave the cluing him in on who they are to the unit’s superiors?
Processing at insane speed, he shuffled a bit to not make the fact his processors were busy delving into considerations too transparent. How would the figure react if he suspected he was gaining intel as well by processing details he had seemed to casually glance over, plus his own human grade intuitive/speculative capability.
“Well, the war changed the limits on Avalon’s R&D assistance limitations. Many of Avalon’s best and brightest were part of the steel legion incident, thus a large moratorium on grander projects on earth was put up. Agriculture projects could continue, but a great deal of thinking automation projects beyond that were either to be put on highly regular earth monitoring or outright terminated.” the android explained.
The android floated reclined with his anti gravitational systems. “With those restrictions, most of Avalon that researched moved to Sol space rather than earth. Much research to try and aid earth, but a mix of earth still having fresh scars of the fears of sci fi come to life in no small part due to their research, and Avalon higher ups de-prioritizing earth, it is down to a few like my creator to aid the place he still calls home, in vastly downsized labs and RV tinkering stations.”
He looked to the sky “HQ is on Avalon, open to the public for open philanthropic aid contracting, a large android/gynoid staff makes it round the clock, they offer any number of aid with natural crisis building manufacturing and deployment, rapid deployment illness research and response units. Planetary power development for things like bringing clean sustainable energy to worlds in need. You name a crisis, they either have a division or a coms call from getting one put in place.”
The android crossed his arms over his chest “But Avalon prides itself in letting worlds determine for themselves how far their aid goes, not taking mantles of lordship over worlds they could run better protocol and oath demands aid to all worlds but only what they are comfortable being rendered. I know I got more than one reminder that the oath has its boundaries with what a world is comfortable with.” his eyes shifted down a moment, clear a well intention mishap but one that if his superiors or an ally had not stepped in and set things right would been more trouble than his help would justify rang in his reflective neurons how the commitment to the oath must be tempered. “What of the force you serve? Or you yourself? What are you authorized to share?” he asked curiously.

"This is gold!" Colonel Crimson couldn't contain his excitement, his eyes widening in genuine surprise at how willingly Vlad was sharing vital information. Throughout his career, Crimson had grown accustomed to the world of covert operations, where details were disseminated sparingly on a need-to-know basis. However, this newfound openness was something he couldn't help but appreciate. "Commander Red is going to be thrilled when he gets wind of this," he continued, his grin growing wider as he remained transfixed by the monitor that relayed the unfolding conversation. With a sense of entitlement, he reached for a crystal glass, filling it with a well-deserved libation of aged liquor. The amber liquid poured with a satisfying, almost celebratory gurgle. "Feel free to introduce yourself," Crimson granted, raising the glass to his lips for a generous sip. "Just remember, let's not get carried away with the specifics." His tone held a careful balance between trust and the safeguarding of closely-held Red Ribbon secrets.
"My name is Android 16," the mechanical warrior declared in his customary monotone manner, his words crisp and devoid of inflection. "I am an android constructed by Dr. Hera and commissioned by the Red Ribbon Army. My primary directive revolves around safeguarding Earth from potential invading forces." With a calculated level of disclosure, Android 16 shared the core facets of his identity, remaining cautious not to venture beyond the boundaries imposed upon him.
Meanwhile, back at the heart of the Red Ribbon's high-tech headquarters, a flurry of activity ensued. Their formidable resources, coupled with Dr. Hera's technical prowess, had propelled them far in the quest for scientific advancement. However, persistent obstacles had emerged, thwarting their progress. It was increasingly evident that to overcome these hurdles, they might need to seek external sources of research, potentially venturing to other planets to unlock the knowledge that had thus far eluded them. The pursuit of progress within the Red Ribbon Army was relentless, driven by an unwavering determination to fortify Earth against any looming threats.

To be fair, the lawful good aspiring nature of Avalon on the whole left much in the way of examples of projects free to shed a general idea with. The protectorate paid R&D for R&D and to assist a ceiling of potentially innumerable worlds with innumerable issues. As long as the world would permit their presence they would do what they could and aid money being no object, the financial incentives non existent to fill their good aspirations.
Heck, he was not giving them anything their website would not share about them, a level of pride in the philanthropic projects they leap to for the sake of helping worlds. Granted individual investment varied, some did it in hopes to bring the learned experience to their home worlds and make it better so still kind to other worlds but driven by what it means for their own. But that was on the individual, the broad goal of the projects were altruistic in nature.
But yeah, bringing sustainable farming to severe damaged worlds? Staffing hospitals round the clock? Giving worlds sustainable energy and manufacturing data, so worlds can build to a golden age on their own? All that was on the “About us” page. Enthusiastic researchers and manufacturers owned or administrated at least in part by the broader government body thus given the best deals on materials as long as they had said where a lump sum a year would go towards and as Avalon had no shortage of manufacturing or industrial stations that went a long way to giving allot of worlds one massive standard of living upgrade for the simple sake of seeing to a minimum well being of every world they can aid.
And not that every task demanded that much, most worlds just needed water treatment, then they could hold their own aqua farming expansions. Educate a few engineers and have a few androids stay long term on a world to educate how to make and maintain energy systems and grids. Indeed, the old give a man a fish/ teach a man to fish bit rang true. And they just take what was needed anyway to establish a farm, data on the soil and the land.
Vlad was open because their “About us” section proudly boasted about services they were happy to render, an endless recruitment with nearly unending units being churned out and needing to constantly cut their teeth on projects to learn more about the galaxy to better aid it means even mundane tasks on worlds were welcome. As well, plenty paladins oaths aligned with their goals, so it was far from uncommon to see journeymen or even knights escorting to serve worlds, especially if a world is reputed to be under the thumb of crime lords or pirates. Heck, some times members of the research team were themselves paladins spreading their talents and using the aid to research branch as their philanthropic goals.
That detail he technically did not make that big of a noise about but visiting the HQ would find no shortage of those of the order proudly bearing their insignia often with an added what oath they took blazoned on it, so what he did not say would be readily evident on visit, even the secular branch was known to wear their oath and attachment to the famed paladins proudly. “Thank you, pleasure to make your proper acquaintance, android 16” he extended a hand, common gesture that tended to join to a “pleased to meet you” line. Reflective matrix for a moment turning the clock back before the steel legion to the Earth Defense Factions, good intentions can go quite far south.
Vlad nodded, “the galaxy is full of agents and agencies willing to harm unnecessarily for their own gain, sadly. Worse yet, those that have bad pasts, so they can't be happy nor permit any others' pursuit of a stable contented existence. No rest for them or us.” he gave a chuckle “guess small favors of fortune and design we only need so little time to run neural maintenance and don’t tire!” The android was enjoying the unusual company and the cold air felt quite a load off his heat sinks, all in all a fine day so far.
He hoped the RR agency rested within a copacetic range with his forces. PTO's more throwback elements and the shadow guard that let grudges paint their reason for being, but as those often had quite cruel agents to account for those pains in the neck, he hoped these well intention by the likelihood that this powerful unit stood as a representative of their aims and seemed to be straight forward honest with earth being priority 1. He hoped perhaps against probability that this micro faction by the sounds of it was capable of being worked with, if the protectorate side he served wanted to do what RR is pro-porting to through the reports of this field agent. RR wanted much what his oath of protection and servicing offered to a world, only Vlad’s faction the oath was to any planet that would welcome their visit.

Despite Vlad's friendly gesture of extending his arm for a handshake, Android 16 remained unmoving, his metallic limb staying resolutely by his side. There was no inclination on his part to engage in unnecessary friendliness, despite his counterpart's congenial demeanour. The information he had gleaned from Vlad held immense value, but that didn't warrant any personal attachment. In fact, if left to his own programming, Android 16 might have been inclined to grasp Vlad's forearm and test his own strength against this enigmatic entity, but he swiftly suppressed such thoughts, as his directives did not extend to such scenarios.
"Take a comprehensive scan of his entire structure," Colonel Crimson issued his orders, his tone conveying the gravity of the situation. Almost immediately, the iris of Android 16's eye emitted a faint glow, signalling the activation of his scanning protocols. He meticulously surveyed Vlad, capturing detailed data that would prove invaluable in future encounters. "Good job," Crimson commended, nodding approvingly at the android. "This data will facilitate easier identification and tracking. While it doesn't appear that this entity poses a threat to Earth, this information will help us monitor its activities more effectively. Now, it's time to extract yourself from the situation; we have other pressing matters to attend to."
With a subtle nod of acknowledgment, the cybernetic sentinel began to ascend gracefully from the snowy terrain. The frosty mantle that had formed around his massive boots shifted and slid off, leaving no trace of his presence. Without a word of farewell, Android 16 swiftly launched himself into the boundless sky, his trajectory set for yet another mission, leaving the icy plains behind as he rocketed toward his next task, his purpose clear and unwavering.

The android tilted his head as he was not returned even a common gesture but some units with a feed to and from a command center just opted to give their judgment to their superiors, or simply relied on it as autonomy wasn't always high order for androids doubly, so after the steel legion was dealt with and the fears of sentient AI jumped to fever pitch again, he pretended he did not hear the talks about putting an inhibitor chip even on his mind after he fought his own kind for them, that was a stinging memory to revisit. He cared more of the ethical considerations more than the power he could gain, he reviewed reports and advertisements he would have been optional to attain if he joined the legion and that was far from shabby hardware and software upgrades. He stood to aid entities to live free, with a supportive government ensuring that a bottom standard of living was available to all. Think talks of even him being potentially limited in his sapience for what he was, was not the easiest thing to pretend he did not hear, that his hearing did not pierce the walls and tap audio monitoring software to catch discussions of the matter in other rooms.
Vlad noted a subtle indicator of 16 scanning him, and Vlad reciprocated the gesture. Both would find both were fine top of the model bodies 16 may find the android had 3 modifications of note a neural crisis chip to regulate his power to top energy efficiency of his primary core, the 2nd upgrade a secondary and tertiary core for the combat frame in the form of indicators that the bones and exterior of the frame were turned to power armor and 3 a linking system that incorporated nanites to maximize each of those executable function bolstering upgrades at once. But if there was one indicator of Vlad, it was as Vlad himself gave of what his creator specialized in, the neural/nerve systems they were something out of a sci-fi novel quite the neuromorphic hybrid of digital and analogue electronic brain.
Half way down the mountain side, 16 would detect a lone figure with no energy signature dressed in a hooded jacket, but if he were to turn to confront the figure, a huge snow cloud would blow through and the figure would vanish.
Vlad frowned a bit not getting to give a proper goodbye, sure he could overtake 16 if he wanted but simply let it go and relaxed in the cold clueless to spider just spying on him waiting on when vlad’s hope goes up high once more just to kick the legs out from under him, and man what was coming and spider knew would be the good old bad days again.
