Pan was sitting on a mountaintop contemplating what her next move should be. She was in the middle of training with Master Roshi, but she could feel that her time with him was coming to a close. She was stronger in both her raw power and her techniques for having trained with him, but she felt, no she knew, there was much higher plateaus of power to be gained. But where?
While she considered these things, she looked out and noticed a humanoid shape nearby. She could feel power coming from it and wondered about it.
Well, I guess I better take a look, she thought to herself.

Right on schedule Yajirobe had been enjoying his routine afternoon nap. The mountain hermit enjoyed taking it upon a desolate mountain top which overlooked Satan City, far away enough from civilization to grant him peace and quiet, but close enough to travel there in case he needed to fetch anything. As he continued his slumber the sound of foot steps stirred him awake. His reaction was practiced and true, he hopped awake and grabbed his samurai sword, his hand hovering over the hilt.
"Who's there?!--" He bellowed, but was surprised to find that it was a little girl. He blinked, surprised to see someone, especially a child, stray this far from the city. She had to have climbed the mountain to reach the peak which was also quite a shock. A normal little girl had no chance of doing that.
"You're a long way from home little lady," The mountain hermit said, part observation and part warning. "You should go back to your parents. There are scary monsters in the mountain top, monsters like me," He boasted in an attempt to make himself come off as more threatening.
His aura seeping from his pores and he attempted to emit it towards the girl, generating a strong wind that would attempt to knock her flat on her back.

"I'm not scared of monsters, especially if they look like you," Pan said as she raised her hand. She wasn't sure exactly what she was doing and why, but she unleashed a blast of energy towards this man in front of her. She wasn't really aiming at him, more of a warning shot, just to show that she had enough power to take care of herself. She didn't need some ol' hairbag talking down to her.
"You convienced yet that I don't need mommy and daddy hanging around me?"
She smiled a childlike grin at her opponent and waited for his response.

The mountain hermit was shocked once more, taken aback by the child's strength. This only served to prove his initial theory correct. This definitely wasn't an ordinary kid. She managed to resist his warning shot and even managed to unleash a blast of energy of her own. Yajirobe stood firm and swept his meaty hand up to meet the beam, catching it within him palm and closing his hand into a fist to disperse the blast. His hand was lightly seared and red along his palm.
"You've got some guts kid, I like ya', but you've disturbed my nap," Yajirobe holstered his sheath along the waistband of his ceremonial yukata. He slapped his face with his hands to psych himself up, then he fell into a sumo stance.
"Let's tussle." He moved quick, quicker than a man his size probably should. If she was tough enough to climb the mountain then he figured that she would be tough enough to take a punch, and that was exactly what the mountain hermit did - his fist aimed at her ribcage, and he followed that up with a vicious hammer blow attempt atop of her head to knock her hard onto the ground.

Pan was surprised as she watched this seemingly vagabond catch her energy attack. Sure, she hadn't put much into it, but still, it was quite a surprise.
"Okay, ol' man, you got some moves,"Pan said as she dropped into a stance. She didn't think this was going to be a fight to the death, so she welcomed a good scrap.
The man rushed her and for some reason she kept expecting him to draw his weapon, but he didn't. Anticipating the need to respond to that left her open to the double attack that came into her ribs and head. Before she knew it she was on the ground.
She slowly picked herself up. "Well, ol' man, that was certainly a surprise."[/front]
She quickly tried to do a jump kick to his face. Using her ki to half fly half fall away from him, she rolled on the ground away from him and flipped back on her feet facing him. She unleashed a volley of ki towards him.

This kid can take a punch. Who is she? Yajirobe questioned. He could usually break a boulder with ease if he wanted to, and even though he did hold back quite a bit, he still had half-expected to make the girl eat dirt for longer. Instead she bounced back quick and even had the audacity to call him old.
"Old?!" He sputtered at her words.
She quickly hopped into the air to kick his face, and her kick landed squarely on his jaw. The mountain hermit stood firm but he admired her strength, for the force of her blow caused his head to snap to the side. The girl flew away from him and nimbly rolled across the terrain to hop back onto her feet and unleashed a volley of Ki energy.
Yajirobe drew his sheath with his blade still housed within it and spun it around to deflect rapidly to deflect the blasts harmlessly away from him. He then holstered his weapon once more and raised his fist, it began to glow red hot and burned with fire, which he then unleashed a torrent a flame at her from his hand in an attempt to engulf her fully within a tempest of fire.

Pan watched in amazement has the man drew his weapon and quickly used it to deflect her volley of ki.
"whoa, cool," Pan said in wonder. She rather liked this guy's style. Maybe when this was all over they could be friends. She didn't know what he liked to do other than fight, but he was at least and entertaining sparring partner.
She didn't get much time to think about that. As she was engulfed in flames. He had generated flames from somewhere, Pan didn't really get a chance to see, and now she was in danger of being turned into fried chicken. Somehow she was able to breath in deep enough to let out a kiai yell to dispuse the flames.
It was exhausting just to use her fundamental skills against this guy! Pan really need to honor her skills more if some random ol' man was giving her this much trouble! Or maybe this guy was a legendary warrior in disguise.
Whatever the case may be, Pan was gonna try one more time!
She rushed in attempting two quick attacks aiming at his face and ribs, and then stepping to the side she attempted a kick to his hip. She was excited because she nailed a perfect kick. At least Roshi would be pleased with her form!

The girl managed to disperse the flames by yelling, focusing her power through her shouts to dissipate the flames that he created. Once more Yajirobe found himself taken aback by the girl, and it was at this point that he resigned himself to having to take it up a notch. She had proven herself to be stronger than most people he had ever met, maybe even stronger than the vicious animals and monsters that roamed the mountains.
She rushed in and went at him with two lightning quick attacks, a combination assault aimed at his face and ribs. Yajirobe was confident in his strong and sturdy body so he stood firm and entrenched himself in the earth, standing strong. When she pivoted and aimed a kick for his hip the mountain hermit attempted to snag her by her ankle with his hand. He bore down on her leg and attempted to toss her to the side. He opened his mouth and a golden beam of energy was shot forth from it, large enough to engulf her completely.
"You've got a lot to learn pipsqueak," He said.

Pan could feel her blows hitting against the man's body. What was remarkable was she felt the pain, which meant he almost certainly didn't feel it. Her strength just couldn't measure up to this mountain man. How was she suppose to fight against someone like this!? She could keep unleashing a volley of energy at him, but she was already starting to feel the drain from that. If she kept it up, she would be more worn from her own attacks vs his! She would have to train her strength as well as her energy prowers if she was going to get into these kinds of fights. Energy attacks just used up too much of her stamina. Roshi had been a good teacher, but maybe it was time for her to move on and learn from others. Maybe there was someone out there that could teach her to manager her energy more efficiently. She could always train her strength, but she favored sitting back and blasting her opponents with energy attacks. Luckily, she got to see how inefficient that was when her life wasn't on the line.
The battlefield was not the place to contemplate this however, as the man reached out and grabbed her leg. Suddenly she was thrown into the side of a cliff, and on her slide down to the ground the man unleashed a huge aura of energy on her. The beam hit her like a truck. She could feel her body being burned and bruised against the power of the blast. She was sprawled out on the ground, struggling to move. She was grateful this didn't seem like a life and death fight, because she was certain this would be the end for her right here and now.
He was right, she certainly had a lot to learn.
She struggled to pick herself up. After what seemed like forever, but was really probably just a few seconds, she managed to sit up and use the side of the the cliff as a backrest.
"Geez, whoever you are, you sure are pretty tough. Especially for an ol' timer," Pan said with a playful grin. She did the best she could do, and that was all there was to it. Maybe they would get a chance to fight again someday, but if it ever got serious she hoped they would be on the same side.
"My name is Pan, who are you?" she asked.

The girl had guts, he had to give her that. The way she staggered back onto her feet displayed her grit as well as her courage. For the samurai's code of bushido, the girl exemplified the virtue of Yu, or courage. Yajirobe folded his arms across his chest, and although his expression was impassive, internally he couldn't help but be charmed by her.
"Watch it kid, I'm not an ol' timer, I'm probably old enough to be your big brother," He said, taking offense to her calling him old. Judging by her appearance the girl had to have been a pre-teen, maybe ten or eleven years old at most. He was definitely older than that, but he wasn't that much older than her.
The young fighter introduced herself as Pan and inquired the mountain man about his name.
"The name's Yajirobe. I'm a ronin that travels the world to hone my skills in solitude. I have been the guardian of many villages, so you probably might have heard of me," He declared. He tried to come off as virtuous as possible. He wanted to exemplify the tenets of Bushido, but the truth was his vices got in the way of his virtues, but the girl didn't need to know that. After all, for every journey one takes, a new beginning is offered. For this vagabond, perhaps this was the beginning for him to live a life of righteousness that he always sought.
"Who's been training you, kid? You can't have an ordinary master," Yajirobe asked her.
