Dear Akira, Thank you. I wish that was all that I had to say but I have more things within my heart to say. Akira created a world for me to escape in. Like many of you I rushed home to catch DBZ on Cartoon Network. Goku was forever taking a shit on Namek and leveling up to beat Frieza.. and I loved every moment.
A lot of you know me OOC and have for years. As a child I was sweet (I know - hard to believe) and I had a lot of childhood trauma that I had to deal with. Writing as Mirai Juuhachigou was a coping skill for me during those times. DBZ allowed me to meet so many of my lifetime friends and keep myself insane. My creative writing has served me in college and in life.
So thank you Akira for shaping me and being my space safe place for so long. Rest in Peace. ;-;In Akira's honor we will be having a watch party Saturday 3/9/2024 starting at noon pacific. I encourage you to join us when you have time. We will be streaming Dragonball all day. Feel free to dress up as your favorite Dragonball/Z/S character (fuck ya if you have cosplay!) or in your favorite Dragonball/Z/S shirt. Feel free to reply to this thread if you would like to leave a note about the impact he had on your life. Akira Toriyama, Creator of Dragon Ball and Manga Pioneer, Dies at 68

Akira,
Dragonball has had a profound impact on my life. I'm not even sure how aware I was of that fact until today. I owe a lot to you, possibly so much so that I'm not even sure I can put it into words that will do it justice.
I was introduced to Dragonball Z by an old friend when I was around 9/10. I was hooked from the word go, but it was more than that. It was around that time that I experienced a fair amount of childhood trauma, as well as my parents splitting up and going through a divorce. The world of Dragonball was there for me throughout that period, helping to mould me into the man I am when my parents failed to do so. Through the characters and their experiences, it taught me the importance of never giving up, even when the odds felt insurmountable. It taught me that even coming from a "low class" background, I could still rise above it and make something of myself. It taught me that kindness is the way forward, but that you shouldn't be afraid to stand up and fight for what you believe in.
These lessons shaped me. I fell in love with fitness and training because of Dragonball. The career I hold today is because of Dragonball.
And now I'm in the process of showing my kids and my step-kids all of the wonderful experiences and lessons I gained from watching Dragonball, and getting to see it through their eyes all over again.
I truly hope you realise the effect you had on so many lives, and will continue to do so for years to come.
From the bottom of my heart - thank you. We'll all miss you.

Dear Akira,
I grew up as a 4-5y old with Dragonball on the local Walloon kids hour television and later on, I experienced my formative years as a teen discovering dragonball Z in both manga form and on television. Many years I have been a fan of the story and the world around this marvelous work, to such a point that I have expanded into other of your works, such as professor Slump and Dragon Quest.
It's a sad day to see you pass the boundaries of the current life into the next, but with all certainty I can say: thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Dear Akira,
I love DBZ as much as anybody as a kid and remember well my cousins and I rushing down my grandma's dirt road from the bus to her house to throw it on. To say it was an obsession would be putting it lightly. Much bigger than the video games and shows though, I met so many of my best friends thanks to DBZ; people I'll be friends with forever, who I only met because one day I googled DBZ RPG and didn't realize immediately that ADBZ couldn't be downloaded.
Thanks big homie.

While I started writing as a coping mechanism for poverty and ongoing trauma, I don't believe I'd have stuck with it if it hadn't been for Dragon Ball. Because Dragon Ball exists, this site exists. Because this site has existed for over two decades now, I found it, found a community of writers, and have continually returned to the craft, incrementally improving day over day, year over year. None of that happens without Toriyama's creative force permeating the world the way it has.
I'm forever grateful to Dragon Ball, its fanbase, and its creator.
