Well, the grey shell was just so that he didn't stand out too much. Not until he took this true form that was what he really looked like. Or so he told himself. "Sorry about that," Nelgae said, referring to his molt. "It's a way to hide more of my power."
Not much of a lie, but it wasn't ever full truth with him. He didn't think much of this form until others had commented on it. To Nelgae, it was just a part of who he was. "I admit your strength and speed are beyond my expectations."
Of course those were surface level. Before one started combat, it was always about apperances and what one could sense. Riki was strong, stronger than any human or mortal being he'd personally met. "Should we continue, or do you have other questions?" He likely hadn't sussed out her full strength, but he had an idea of it. He hoped.
“You have a built in disguise! That’s super cool!” Riki said becoming more and more impressed by Nelgae. “What else can you do?”
What else? He didn't want to reveal his full strength, that was reserved for true combat. But he could show her a little more. If the grey form was a shell, then the golden form was but his solid body.
That seemed to melt off, plates of golden shell fell off as the bug took on a black shadow form with blue that just highlighted rib, leg muscles abs arm muscles. His eyes changed from a crimson glow to a soft blue.
A shadow of death, but that was hardly something the girl would know. Most likely. "How is this?" He still retained the same voice, but he did give off more power. He rarely used this, so it was good to stretch the form a bit.
Riki’s eyes lit up like a child at Christmas. Nelgae’s transformations were pretty epic, from Super Saiyan bug to Shadow Monster, Riki who had no noticeable transformation herself except power tiers was quite envious.
“Awesome,” she let out. “No wonder you were the champion! You could be a super hero or a guy out of a comic book who always wins!”
She didn’t actually seem to register she might have beat him at this point because awesomeness didn’t have to equal power.
Compliments, praise, a flattery weren't things that moved the big anymore. Centuries of it left those words as ones he'd heard hundreds, or even thousands, of times. But it anyways left a little less sting of he lost.
He decided not to tell her that he only recently attained the shadow form, along with his current strongest form. Even without a grin, it seemed that the bug released a chuckle.
"I have to reference to comic books, but perhaps I am more akin to something from horror for most Earthlings. I have visited your planet." Of course, he mostly stayed out of the news by staying away from towns and cities. He was sure he saw himself on a tabloid once or twice, but no one took it seriously. He thought, anyway. "Have you ever read a tabloid?" Now he was curious if she had seen it.
“Really? Well, they’re a lot more scared after all the war and stuff,” Riki answered, somewhat apologetic for her people. When she was a kid, people like Nelgae wouldn’t have gotten a second look. Well, in his first disguised form. The golden one definitely made you look and then shield your eyes, and the shadow one definitely seemed more devious like a thief in the night! But outside of a quick scare if he showed no malice Earthlings tended to sigh and go with it, or they used to. After being murdered and attacked by the strange so often they lost that open acceptance.
“Wait, you were in a tabloid? Isn’t that only for famous people? Well, you are the champion!”
Tabloids about the Arlian Champion were one thing, but perhas he should have asked about those stupid tabloids that talked about nonsense. Well, aliens were real and all that - Nelgae was an alien after all - so he wondered if they weren't just alternative media at this point. Probably a moot thought.
"That makes sense," the bug replied to her first comment. "War and intense violence can change a planets' collective psyche." He'd seen that up close, though more from fear of what the Klaxxi themselves did and could do. "I think I saw myself as a shadow in one tabloid. I think the headline questioned nine foot tall bug men."
It didn't mention the champion because they never got a good look, and it was years after his reign, "I have been retired over twenty years." That would likely explain why he had faded from most media. A twenty year old story wouln't sell papers, not with the short attention span of most target audiences.
“It sucks,” Riki said bluntly. Even if it made sense, she didn’t like it. For someone very quick to make judgements about people she deemed as criminals or villains, she refused to judge anyone based on just their race or appearance. Even if she only needed flimsy evidence, you wouldn’t see her accusing anyone just because they looked strange. To Riki, the stranger the cooler.
“Oh, I’ve been in those. They’re mean,” she answered him. She wasn’t a public figure so her face was blotted out but they said ton of mean things about her destroying cities and stuff.
