It had been nearly three years since Kamatayan had arrived on Namek. It all started with the lust for power, as much often did for Saiyans. He had come to Namek to seek the blessings of the Guru in his search for the Dragonballs. Kamatayan had confidence in receiving the blessing of the Guru and had essentially begun his search informally before even touching down on the planet. Yet here he was, all this time later and never having laid a hand on one of the seven. How had it come to this?
During the great war that had engulfed the universe just over three years ago Kamatayan had acquired an ancient space ship. It was hardly a ready made, almost off the production line model. Nor was it an old ship steeped in history and legends. It was instead something he had been able to assemble enough remnants of ancient technology and know-how to build. So grand in its nature it was very much like a planet freed from its orbit and able to go where the commander of such a vessel chose.
For the first time Kamatayan had been elevated beyond his position of being able to influence the universe around him on a personal level, through one on one direct interactions to having the power at the touch of his fingertips to change the political landscape. Furthermore, he had been engaging in this when it took his mood, such as on his journey to Namek when he gave the order to obliterate the forces of the PTO. There was no doubting that Kamatayan had acted with anything less than the greater good in mind. The outcome was indeed to the immediate benefit of the innocent people of Namek. However, while it wasn't an inherent act of evil Kamatayan was becoming increasingly detached from the reality of the decisions he was making.
