"I took on a large debt. A debt someone I care about has incurred, and I am going to pay it off."
Her eyes diverted from Yan and looked off toward her left some. "I'm going down a path least traveled."

Yan’s face moved to one of confusion, his head tilting in almost question. She’d know why of course. She just said she cared about someone. More than that, she cared enough about them to endure hardship. That wasn’t Tomoko at all.
His brow furrowed in the end, concern welling up. ”Kaiya’s alright?” he asked masking any urgency but not bothering to hide he was troubled at the thought of her troubled. It wasn’t a far reach. It was the last connection Tomoko had kept hold of, and Yan had not been in contact with the girl since then either. If it was Kaiya in trouble...
He had to ask, though he hoped full heartily it was someone further back in Tomoko’s past, or even someone new, rather than her little sister.

"Kaiya is fine. I made sure of that. You do not have to worry about her. Silly, Yan.
How often did she use his name? She noticed that is what she called him and she looked his way again. "You are the only person in this era and this world who knows. Probably the only other person who will understand, the same way that I do. "
She took the mask off and its faded away into flakes of shadows. He could see her face fully now. She then took the cloak off and showed him the dark armor she wore underneath. Upon her chest was a dragon's crest..a familiar dragon crest.

”I tend not to,” he admitted about worrying for Kaiya though his concern had melted away with those few words. He didn’t worry about Kaiya. He probably should have more but... ”She’s proven time and again she can handle herself.” Her role in the Reaping was a fine show of that. No matter what happened the seemingly fragile girl buckled down, stood her ground, and prospered.
”But that’s not always enough~” he added half heartedly to excuse his jump to worry. Everyone needed a hand sometimes. It happened often enough that the cards were just stacked too high against you to climb alone without immense difficulty.
When she showed the emblem however his frown returned though it was much less pressing. It was more skeptical this time, not upset but not quite happy.
”Your darling nephew?” he asked, with a playful tone the council would not forgive him in taking towards their emperor. ”Or someone older?” The second suggestion sounded innocent, and yet anyone older in Tomoko’s strange and sordid past carried certain implications that were far from pure.

"Older." She took in a heavy sigh. "There is a secret Order within the... broken Protectorate. The Pendragon Order. Considering how Clark has demonstrated Pendragon...that sounds so tacky doesn't it?"
YanYesterday at 12:07 AM
”Well, it was the Pendragon Shadowguard originally,” Yan noted with a hum. It wasn’t exactly coded. Even the current Clark had specifically coded words and titles for more private matters, but he supposed the real name of this order and what most actually referred to it in most settings was different. There was pride to the Pendragon name, one they obviously carried strongly.
It was quite tacky.
”What exactly does this mean for you?” he found himself asking, and he wasn’t quite clear on his motives for it. It wasn’t quite concern like he had over Kaiya. It wasn’t that Tomoko could handle herself, if anything Yan had less faith in her than Kaiya, but there was always a kind of certainty that Tomoko would at least survive, and that’s all he ever needed from her. Perhaps it was plain curiosity, or maybe invested interest, already seeing a game in motion. The Protectorate, the Paladins, Ganr, Order...He already knew another player going in that direction.

"I was snuffed out. I went into hiding, or... well I just said fuck it. The fighting, the random war efforts, destruction... Chaos. I put Chaos away. I went off to cool my head and learn about what my own life meant to me." She had a soften expression on her face. "I told myself that the debts I created didn't matter, I'd just file bankruptcy or something. But then, a ghost came to me and begged me for help. I--I couldn't let that debt go. I didn't know that my first husband's soul was locked to a bastard because of a debt he owned them."
She was talking about Brannon, no doubt. What he had gotten himself into was still unknown, but Yan would know at-least that out of all the people in the universe or in her own time line, she adored Brannon just about as much as she adored Kaiya or Kaito. "Yan, I showed you just one portion of my past through our broken Majin bond. I showed you my darkness. I come to you, the only person that knows that part of my story, to tell you that I am fighting a debt that my light incurred. No matter what happens, and this is so weird for me to say this shit but, I consider you...my only friend."
Her eyes sharpened as if she completely switched her softened, out-of-character face to...something more in-character. She wasn't dull, her stale emotionless lips twisted into a madden grin. "Despite what they have me do in this Order of theirs, as I pay chunk after chunk of Brannon's debt away, rather we be enemies, or if we have similar goals in mind, your interest far outweighs theirs. Means that in short, I'll fuck with everything but Commander Cass and they can kiss my ass if they think that can make me.... Its what I told em."
She giggled. "They didn't like it but accepted it. Some reason they need me a little more than I need them. But honestly, I haven't changed to much, which kind of sucks. I thought I'd be at-least a little more calmer and wiser. But then I realize, I am pretty damn wise. I just can't bring myself to care. I'm still a bit pissed off at Brannon for not even telling me all those years ago. It makes sense though now, why me and him ended up together. I ain't exactly a prize or something....
I'm more of a curse.

Yan smiled slightly, almost teasingly, as Tomoko explained her midlife crisis. That’s how it sounded didn’t it? Giving up everything, taking such a step back, reevaluating her life...It wasn’t a condescending smile though. He’s definitely had his share of crisises. It happened, and in a long life it happened more. More often they ended as hers apparently had too. Someone important butted in either for you or for themselves.
His head did tilt however when Tomoko managed to get out the words to call him her friend. The term often plagued him. It was difficult for him to accept friendship as he knew it would be betrayed eventually, but he had softened in recent days, or had simply stopped caring as much. He’d been pushed to certain limits, forced into certain relationships, and now he could claim friendship...though he still clung to his label as a bad person, which meant his betrayal should not come as a surprise. If they betrayed him...well, they could still be friends more likely than not.
It was a weird notion with Tomoko, as she herself pointed out, but it didn’t seem a wrong, especially as she continued, attaching certain promised to it. His affection for that smile hammered it in deeper.
”I dunno love, jumping in to take over his debt, saving his ass, you’re closer to an angel than a curse, even if your ways about it are far from holy,” he said keeping a smile. He had no doubt that the only way someone like Tomoko could return anything was for it to be dirty and yet, she was without a doubt his savior, even if it was only from he stupidity.
