Joseph had been on his way from a session of training under Kami, the guardian of Earth. He decided to pay a visit Goku jr. at his new home in some remote village. He had thought Goku jr. would end up being housed by Master Roshi or living with him in his small town, or the woods. The young Earthling was happy that his best friend could experience paternal care and be a part of a community either way.
The boy could appreciate the cohesive socialist style of function that the village could have, it was a contrast to what he was use to growing up in capitalist societies like the United State and near the major cities. He walked passed a group of men and women pushing out carts of gold. The folks of the village sending to have predilections for living simple quiet lives, they put in their hours of work diligently have the pay to take care of the needs and modest desires and spent the rest of their time with their family, friends, and other trades and hobbies they possessed.
Joseph walked through in search of his friend tracking his energy signature waving back to various unfamiliar pedestrians that were took notice of him and were cordial enough to wave to him. He wondered what Goku happened to be doing at this time.

Things were quiet in the village, as always. Goku had finished all of the chores that his adopted mother wanted him to do - which consisted of helping her garden and head towards the village market place to buy what would be their dinner. She often cooked chicken stew, which was his favorite. She made sure to put a lot of chicken in his stew especially, which he appreciated greatly. Afterward he was free to play and do whatever he wanted, but for the time being he wanted to stay inside and read a little fiction.
Getting the grasp of what people called "Galactic Basic", or "Galactic Standard" language, was hard for him. Everything he knew was through listening to people talk whenever he visited the city, he didn't know that people wrote down what they spoke out loud.
His adopted mother continued to teach him and drill him with reading and spelling, and eventually he got the hang of it. She said that he could read at a "Junior High School" level, which was good in such a short amount of time. It was important for him to have more than a basic grasp of the language since most people from different planets also spoke it, especially in what was called the "Avalon Protectorate". However, Goku didn't learn much more about that subject. His adopted mother said that she would expand on it another time.
As he sat in his room and continued to read a fictional tale of a legendary Paladin named Pyal, his adopted mother entered his room.
"Goku," She started to speak, "There is a boy in the village, I believe that he's looking for you."
"Joseph!" Goku exclaimed as he jumped out of his bed and rushed out of the door, flinging his book to the side.
His adopted mother smiled warmly.
Guess I'll clean up after him this time.
Goku flung open the front door and ran to greet Joseph, who happened to have been approaching his house.
"Hey!" The boy nearly tackled him into a hug. After a moment he ended his embrace and smiled happily, his tail wagging energetically like an excited puppy.
"Are you here to play?!" Goku asked him.

Joseph was almost with in reach of the door before it flung over and he was assault with the embrace of his friend, he had to catch himself before he fell back. The Earthling child would have hugged back but he did not have a predilection for such contact. He needed time to warm up to that, though warming up to it was process that took a good deal of time and went case by case with various people had come to know.
This did not distract form his appreciation for having a friend so happy to see him. Joseph had few he was sure could be counted as friends. The young half-Saiyan wondered what consolidated the fellowship between them. If Joseph had to think of an instance it would be probably during the fight with Broly.
That lost was one of his most dismal experiences, but despite that he could appreciate some things about it strangely. Getting stronger, showing Joseph the best of Goku and vice versa. "Sure," Joseph said in response to Goku jr's question. "What would you like to do?"

When Joseph asked them what game they would play Goku paused for a moment to think. Then suddenly an idea popped into his head and he gave Joseph a wide, yet mischievous smile.
"I have an idea! Follow me!" He exclaimed excitedly.
He would take off into a sprint while motioning for Joseph to follow him towards the stables where the village horses were. There were six of them in total, and Goku was partly in charge of helping feed and clean them whenever the adults could not. He opened the barn door and let out one horse who Goku slowly reigned outside.
"Good girl," He patted the horse softly as he then jumped on it.
"Grab a horse and let's race!" He smiled at Joseph as he lead the horse that he was riding outside to await for Joseph to follow him closely behind so that thee could begin the race.
Obviously it would be a bad idea if they got caught, but for Goku it was a chance that he was willing to take in order to have some fun with his best friend.

Joseph stood and waited for Goku for as he the later thought of something for the two of them to do during Joseph's visit. It wasn't a challenge for Joseph to realize that Goku thought of something when he gave a wide smile and then dashing off with alacrity. Joseph ran behind him to follow him to his destination before they had at the horse staples.
Joseph eyes roved around at the different horses and watched as Goku taking a horse out. The boy had heard his friend to tell him to get another horse for an exhibition of speed. "Ok," Joseph said. The boy had never gone horseback riding before, though there were occasional instances of curiosity about the prospect. He saw no reason to protest, although if he thought to ask if this was allowed it would be a different story.
The boy walked around looking at the five remaining horses pondering which one would be the best selection for a race. The child was shrewd, but he wasn't an equestrian or a care taker for the species so he was long for insight as to what would constitute an optimal choice among the five.
Joseph had eventually selected a horse with a coat of yellow and white fur. He pulled the horse from the staple and brought it out next to Goku. The then climbed up the horse and sat upon the saddle on its back. The boy wondered how this would go, he had seen it a number of times on television and saw the occasional horse mounting policeman on the streets. It didn't look for them.

Goku smiled at Joseph after he made his selection. Even he didn't know how fast each and every horse was, so he wasn't sure himself how the race would pan out.
"Okay!" Goku positioned himself on the saddle as snugly as he could so that he would be at least somewhat comfortable. He learned to ride horses by one of the adult stablemen since there were times that he would have to visit the city on horseback, though Goku himself preferred to walk or run since it was much faster for him to do so.
"On your mark," He leaned forward and grabbed the reigns.
"Get set," He prepared to to tap the horse with his shoes but then he suddenly paused.
"Wait," He turned to Joseph and gave him an inquisitive look.
"I forgot to ask but do you even know how to ride a horse?" Goku asked him. He felt a little rude and inconsiderate that he didn't think to ask first. Assuming that Joseph would be able to wouldn't be right. And winning under the circumstances that he was the only experienced horseback rider wouldn't be fun, satisfying, or fair at all.
"How about you ride on my horse with me!" He suggested to him.

Joseph adjusted himself to a position he deemed to be the most comfortable and secure as possible. He looked to Goku than looked ahead. The boy wondered as what would be the finish line for the race, there wasn't time to ask Goku was already beginning to start and Joseph mirrored Goku's motion of leaning in and grabbing the reigns.
Goku called wait having Joseph look towards him and meet his inquisitive gaze. Joseph took a moment to think about Goku's question even though he already thought of an reasonably obvious answer. "Well, I've never done it," he stated, maneuvering around yes and no, with no being the most probable. Then Goku asked if he'd like to ride with him on his horse. "Yeah, we can do that."
Joseph dismounted and put the horse back into the section of the stable where he originally withdrew it and closed it and secured it properly. After that was done Joseph mounted the horse behind his friend. The Earthling figured this would be better than trying his hand at racing on horseback without ever have rode a horse, plus this gave him a chance to learn how.
