The setting Joseph had made his training in the astral plain was the interior of a martial arts dojo. The floors were wooden and looked to be recently polished, there were a number of mirrors on the walls and mates on the floors . The boy was currently honing his skills on a training dummy, it was a wooden log somewhat above his height with three arms sticking out simulating human strikes.
The boy stood striking the sides of the arms with his forearms and kicking towards the bottom of the training dummy. He struck at and around the arms at various angles, intercepting imaginary strikes. His arms moved around like a snake and his strikes were sudden burst of motion like a crane peaking to attack with its beak.

Krillin felt the familiar woosh of the astral realm flood his ears as he grasped the gem from his belt. He found himself inside a dojo, not unsimilar to the one he had trained in on yaidrat just a few months before. There he found a familiar face, giving a training dummy a good beating.
"If you want, I could take the place of your training partner there. I'm a little more durable, though the dummy is probably a better conversationalist," said the bald headed warrior.

The boy looked over his shoulder to the familiar sight of the Monk. "Oh hey, sure," Joseph said as he turned away from the wooden man to the Earthling that had just entered the realm. "How have you been?"

"Dead," said the monk without missing a beat. Though I've just made it back, thanks to the Grand Kai's good graces. Krillin checked above his head to make sure the halo was indeed gone.

Joseph's eyes widened in surprise at what Krillin had said. "Oh," Joseph uttered, his mind still letting that sink in to think of a response, before coming to a question. "How did it happen?"

"I attempted to save someone. Bit off a little more than I could chew," said the monk a bit of pain flashing across his face as he remembered too vividly that his attempt to protect the innocent had failed. "Don't fret, my strength grows faster every day, and one day I'll be able to protect those who need it."

Joseph saw the flash of pain that came on Krillin's face and could empathise with it. Joseph also knew that feeling all too well. He had failed to protect people on Grace and nearly caused the death of someone there because he lacked the constitution to be adequate to save anyone during that cataclysmic event.
Joseph thought about his failure to defeat Broly and thus the Mad Titan was free to kill a Paladin that had come to save him and Goku, Goku was brutalized by the grown up Saiyan. Joseph wanted to push himself to greater heights, to be able to oppose people like Broly or anyone that sought to cause destruction and pain to him or others on his watch, when the time came.
"I know what that's like," the half Saiyan replied, commenting on the first part of what Krillin said, he looked. "I'm sure you'll get there."

Recognizing his friends pain, Krillin nodded at the boys kind words, seeming much older than his years would let on," We both will."
