Alice looked over at the books that lined the shelves. Was Yan really sure about this? The kitsune wasn't exactly the scholar that he probably really wanted for this, but that wasn't the real issue. It was that there was so much lore behind what he wanted. To take a mental break, the kitsune lulled herself into the psychic realm, before she attempted to call out for Yan to meet her in the usual spot.

There were only two people he really enjoyed the astral realm with. Tomoko called him here on many a whim these days but it was always somewhat hollow, like he was missing the action somewhere. For those two, it was the same but he had reluctantly accepted for them to need some space and independence from him. If he could linger over Hayami and Barkley’s shoulders, he probably would, but experience taught him better. Instead the realm was a constantly open channel should they ever need him for anything, no matter how small, and he answered it with none of the hesitation he gave many others.
He had a feeling he knew the reason for this specific call, and leaned back a little in the comfortable chair this place always held for him.
“How’s it going?” he asked with an innocent smile, as if he hadn’t given her such an overbearing assignment.

Alice looked over as Yan appeared and asked his question. Either he really wanted to get under her skin, or he really wanted to bug her. Either way, the Celestial released a low sigh and waved her hand a bit. The book shelf she desired miraged over and then a second came over and they both stopped on either side of her.
"Oh, pretty good," Alice replied in a sickeningly sweet tone, "There's so much I've already found. And more to look at." While she could absorb contents of books to read and have them here, the only other multi-shelf display for a single subject was her memories. Most other legends and the like had maybe their own shelf, but this research subject...
"Was there any particular one fox you wanted to know about?" This was a hopeful question, but the answer was probably obvious. Why did he have to send Alice? That was more unspoken, but perhaps it was best that she did it herself and not someone less trustworthy.

Yan’s smile grew, losing its innocence quickly, at her reply. He watched as the shelves moved towards them then looked back to her, the smile fading into something more genuine and less snide.
“Think of it as a change in pace,” he offered, gentler. Hayami had been running around as a Shadowguard dog, throwing herself into dangerous missions including ones he had not sanctioned like hunting sown a former Shadowguard commander. It wasn’t that he feared for Hayami’s life against Tomoko, though the kitsune had passed the point of childhood to be spared by the soft hearted demon.
Instead it was...well, complicated and a little closer to home than he liked. It was almost as if another commander was baiting him using Hayami, and unfortunately for the kitsune that meant Yan needed to keep a closer leash on this particular stray, lest that commander toss her to more dangerous wolves—at least until he sorted the whos and whys.
The actual subject matter was important as well.
“Besides, you’re quite good at sorting through research,” he said, referencing the books and books of data she had found and gone through on specific gods and the likes for her own powers and development. She would find what he was looking for.

Well, that was one particular question unanswered. Yan probably wanted to know about all of them, after all. Was the reincarnated kitsune just one? Was she all of them? Or was she a demon reborn as a deity? All of it was far more than fascinating on it's own, but she felt like there was more tension than usual.
"Yan, are you mad at me?" It wasn't asked in a way like she would have asked a year or two ago. Like when she had been forced to stay on that planet, where was wanted to be safe. This was more like a subordinate asking her superior officer. She wasn't supposed to act as a Stray, but how she going to say no to another commander? Could she have?

"Eh?" Yan let out his head tilting slightly to the side at her question before understanding took hold of him. "Oh," he let out, then easily shook his head. "Why would I be mad?"
From what he heard, Hayami had done everything she should have on that mission, and he had no problems with her following commands so long as she didn't force herself beyond her conscience. He wasn't mad at her in any fashion, if anything he was a little proud because he personally had dealt with both Riya and Tomoko in the past and usually ended up being the one blown up.
Any discomfort he had was within the Shadowguard itself. It was sad to say that it was not an organization he could put his faith in despite his position. There was always someone itching to take it from him or to knock him down a peg. There were too many people who would take leverage and flip him over. Using Hayami to do so was never out of the question.

Alice tilted her head in an animalistic way, before she shrugged, "I thought you might be mad that I allowed someone else to use me. Luckily, I was able to hide my real abilities." Sure, she used some psychic powers, but that was hardly a secret anymore. She'd used her trained skills from Damaskia, so there was little risk that anyone really knew who she was. Or rather, that was the hope.
"I should say, though...Tomoko seemed to spare myself and Fayte from any harm. At least from her larger-scale attack at the end. Perhaps Fayte was only spared because I was near Them, but I'm kinda surprised that she remembered me." The kitsune pushed the shelves away before she formed the obligatory table and chairs, then made some tea and a little cake or cracker, whichever Yan wanted to have with the tea.
She smiled lightly then, and said softly, "It's on old Grace comfort tea, so I hope you can relax just a bit. After all, it must be stressful trying to cover my tracks, Yan."

“Sometimes you have to be used a little,” Yan said with a smile. It’d probably of caused them both a lot more trouble if she refused. Hayami did well to recognize it, and better still to handle the situation as she had. Trusting Fayte was a bit...Well, Juturna had already spilled the beans to Daji that Fayte was apparently Yan’s only friend so there was that. Complete trust would be too much, but he doubted that was what she gave them on the mission.
“She didn’t kill anyone before the large scale attack either,” Yan offered Hayami as food for thought. Tomoko had a reputation and a demeanor that showed up in the end, but she was turning over a new leaf. She had gone out of her way to protect not kill, until Bulma triggered her properly.
“She has a soft spot for kids too,” he added with a teasing grin. In seriousness, he meant it in reference to the last time Hayami and Tomoko met when the girl was quite young. It was before Daji if he remembered correctly? He couldn’t remember if he spoke to Tomoko about Hayami since, but he was not surprised she remembered Hikari’s chaos seed incarnate.
He was thinking on this when Hayami continued and he half choked on a snort. Watching Hayami was child’s play in comparison to his early work for the Shadowguard. At that point he was tasked in cleaning up Tomoko’s tracks.
“Trust me, I’ve dealt with far messier people, Tomoko included," he said keeping a small smirk and sitting in nostalgia for a moment.

Well, being used wasn't eactly something that the Celestial wanted, but there wasn't a choice there. Or maybe Yan had just trained her well enough. That wouldn't exactly sit well with the kitsune, but for now it was for her own good. Damaskia was not exactly a forgiving place, after all. Of course, Alice spoke up, "Muu, you know I'm not a kid anymore."
And that had to get Alice thinking if Fayte ever had to be cleaned up on. Questions for later.
