VASH Last Tuesday at 4:13 PM
Continuation.
Vash listened to Yamato's tale, this time presented with greater detail. There was so much going on before that it had been difficult for Vash to truly learn more about the individual specifically, which is why he had reached out to Yamato in the first place. He purposefully made his question seem like it was all about Tarble, when in actuality it was to gauge how Yamato would respond.
At first glance, it appeared that Yamato was Tarble's second in command. While gifted in his own right, clearly evidenced by the display of power he had shown when the now full fledged members of the Oath had first gathered and the subsequent battle that had ensued, some may view Yamato as Tarble's sidekick. It was a sentiment that Vash knew all too well, and he himself considered it an insult. The parallels between Tarble and Yamato and Vash and Rem were uncanny.
"You may not realize it yet, Yamato," Vash replied at the conclusion of the story. "But, were a lot alike, you and I. I used to have what you and Tarble have now. Ive been in your shoes. Rem and I were on top of the world. There was nothing that could get in our way when we worked together." Vash let out a sigh, his eyes dropping their line of sight to his boots.
"We were brothers," he continued. "Well, as much as a drunken demon and an self obsessed Namekian could be anyway," vash chuckled and shook his head as his cerulean eyes closed. "But how strong do you feel your bond is? Are you certain he feels the same? I for one didn't think there was anything that could come between Rem and myself. But, when it can down to it, family didn't mean shit." Vash spit on the ground in disgust. "I keep his severed head as both a trophy and a reminder that you must always be careful of who you trust."
"I called you here to get a better idea of who you are, Yamato," the demon went on. "But, I think I already know the answer to that. You're me."
Vash had been talking all of this time, building up to ask a very specific question. He had seen Yamato's power first hand, and he knew that this question could very well get himself into trouble.
"How do you deal with being the sidekick?" He asked, eagerly waiting to see Yamato's reaction. One of the goals of the Oath, at least as it had been explained, was for the members to push one another. Vash may have been pushing buttons that could get his ass kicked, but he was going to push them.

Yamato merely waited for a moment, letting this story sink in and give reason for his loyalty to Tarble. And his response had been that he and Vash were actually a lot alike. Crimson irises widened slightly, but he didn't dare speak just yet. He felt intrigued with what needed to be said, so he did his best to just listen. This demon had also had someone close to him, a brother that stood tall beside him. He was once a dynamic duo with a person named Rem. Yamato decided to commit the name to memory, despite never meeting the guy and merely nodded as Vash continued on.
But that's when things began to shift and he was asked if he was certain that Tarble even felt the same as he did. Surprise graced the demon's features as he took a small step back. Being a wolf demon, his blood was running wild with canine-like features. And loyalty had been a big feature that he had. No matter how many times he was betrayed or thrown away, he always forgave and went running after whoever he felt deserved it. So when he was told that to his relationship with Rem... family didn't mean shit and that he kept the Namekian's head as a trophy... he felt his pupils beginning to dilate.
While most demons were cruel or would laugh and agree about keeping trophies of their victims, Vash would be one of the first few to realize that Yamato was the complete opposite. But no matter how much Yamato wanted to yell that they were not the same, he felt his voice leaving him, his irises jerking around the area as he continued to listen to those words that almost felt like venom to his ears. And then a final question was asked -- how did he feel being Tarble's sidekick?
He felt something snap in him.
"I'm no mere sidekick." Those sharp canines were bared in a snarl and his fists curled into tight fists at his side. "I could have died countless of times, but he always found a way to prevent it. He saved me from the curse that plagued my family and forced us into being demons in the first place. Even when we used to have to eat people to sustain life, Tarble was there to help us. Even though... his own damn wife was slaughtered in the same manner by a demon. He could have betrayed me or killed me whenever he damn well pleased, but he hasn't."
That anger slowly started to fall, if only to keep himself from being riled up. "I've been betrayed countless of times, but Tarble and the family I currently have? I trust them with my life, just like they trust me with theirs." He took a second to exhale a breath of air, those crimson irises taking a moment to close and then reopen once again. "Both Tarble and I lead the Oath together, we climb to the highest mountains together and wait for the other to land at the very top so that we reach it at the exact same second. I know Tarble and if he ever strayed from his path, I'd follow him to the pits of hell if necessary." They were bold claims and what almost appeared to be reckless faith.
But that fierce determination in his eyes wouldn't fade for even a split second as he spoke.

A sly smirk crept across Vash's face as he stood there, arms crossed, soaking in the storm of emotions flowing across Yamato. The demon felt that if you truly wanted to get to know someone, you had to strip away their sense of self awareness, their self control. He was able to do that to Yamato with a couple of sentences. Vash had seen a glimpse of Yamato's power first hand. He knew that provoking him may not be the smartest idea. But, watching his new alliance mate struggle to maintain his resiliency delighted him to no end.
Vash pulled out a cigarette from an inside pocket of his duster and, with a snap of his fingers, produced a small flame to light it. "Y'know, I envy you. I really do, Yammy. Can I call you Yammy?" A cloud of smoke exhaled from Vash's lungs as he got closer and draped an arm around Yamato's shoulders like they were old friends.
"You got a lot going for you, and you're not afraid to defend it. I can respect that," Vash went on as he tapped Yamato on the back twice. "I think were gonna be great friends, you and me. I'm glad we're havin' this little chat. You seem like someone I can rely on. And now I know you'll eat someone if we need to, so, bonus points there," Vash shot him a pair of finger guns, jokingly.

The demon watched as Vash pulled out a cigarette and lit it with ease and if Yamato was in the right mind, he would have joined him, but he was still coming down from that high. That was, until, it was announced that Yamato was envied. Crimson irises blinked open wide from surprise and confusion -- especially when a new nickname hit his ears. Yammy? He felt his head tilting and eyes lowering as if to test out the sound in his head again. It was weird, but, before he could really say if he liked it or not, Vash seemed keen on keeping it on the table anyway.
Just as smoke flew up from the other demon's lips from the exhale of his cancer stick, an arm was found around his shoulders shortly afterward. It was a motion that was only given by those that really knew him and were close friends, but at the same time, it didn't feel like a bad thing right now either. This was probably the first time that someone wanted to get to know or befriend him in a very long time after all. Vash stated that he had a lot going for him and he was willing to defend it no matter at what cost, it was something that could be respected. Yamato gave a small nod at this, he was quite passionate when it came to his family, they were the closest people to him and people that he couldn't risk losing.
And despite saying that he'd jump into hell with Tarble... that was only after trying to get Tarble's mind back on track. To try and keep the Saiyan level minded and keep him grounded at the end of the day. Because he knew it was something that the others would do for him as well. As it was pronounced that they'd be good friends at the end of the day, a small chuckle finally seeped from the demon's lips, his head lowering as those orange-red strands fluttered over his face in a swift motion. "You know, you might be right about that." Yamato appeared to be someone that Vash could rely on, especially if he could eat people if desperation came down to it.
At first, he felt his heart hitching in his chest, knowing fully well that he didn't need to eat people anymore now that the curse was lifted. But.. if it came down to it and it was the only option left... would he do it? With those finger guns made in his direction, Yamato let those thoughts roll to the back of his mind for the moment, soft laughter escaping him as he extended his fist over to punch into the other demon's shoulder in a playful act.
Yamato had to admit that it felt like he wouldn't really get to know these new people in the alliance. Despite not being the sidekick, everyone's attention was directed solely on Tarble. But now? It seemed like that was changing now that the formalities were all said and done. The Red King, the Demon King of Rex Cathedrae, his presence would be known soon enough.
