The morning showers came and went, leaving behind a cool mist that blanketed the village below the Shroud's boughs. Dew covered the treetops and the grass, puddles littering the damp streets as the sound of birds welcomed the new day. One by one, people began to appear from their homes to start their morning routine. This included one miqo'te by the name of Celestielle Lothaire, a fair skinned maiden with a head of beautiful white hair. Adorned in her weekend attire, a spring dress with ribbon shoes, she left her home nestled at the edge of Bentbranch Meadows. She was greeted by all whom she passed, a peaceful smile wearing on her pretty face.
As she headed towards the Matron's Leth, she was stopped by a tall Elvin woman and a miqo'te lass. "What brings you here, Celestielle? Finally home from your Conjurer's training?" Roseline called as the owner of the name trotted her way up to boardwalk's stairs. "I am!" she beamed proudly. The other miqo'te, Osha, appeared confused from behind her mask as she eyed Celestielle up and down with wonder. "You're dressed nice. What's the occasion?" Celestielle beamed, peering down at the floorboards as she now stood in front of them. "W-well, today is Father's birthday." Roseline smiled behind her mask, "Then you're going pick those flowers again."
With a ginger nod, Celestielle pulled her wicker basket close. Osha chuckled, placing her hands on her hips. "I see you also brought your conjurer's weapon." she motioned at the stick she also held. "Keep that close to you too. We don't want any accidents." Celestielle nodded quickly, "Of course, I'll be careful! I always am." Before she took a step forward to leave, Roseline held a caring hand to her. "Celestielle, do be mindful up there. I heard the stropers have been straying from the swamps." With widened eyes, the white haired miqo'te blinked with bewilderment. "That's...odd. I'll be sure to keep an eye out then." Sharing a collective nod, the three parted ways.
Leading up to Sorrel Haven, Celestielle had to walk up on a large fallen log, followed by a small fort called Dunstan's Spire. A wood wailer known as Theodore gave the girl an all-knowing wave, having witnessed from above his fellow wood wailers explaining the situation to Celestielle. "Be safe." he said curtly. Canting her head to him politely, she continued on her way into the woods. Every year since she was able to do so, Celestielle always gathered the local flowers in Sorrel Haven for her father's birthday. Her father was not her birth father however. Celestielle did not know her real family, and was taken in by a generous man by the name of Arismont Lothaire.
Celestielle cared for her adopted father dearly. The appreciation she felt for him was great, and she wanted to do everything in her power to remind him every year of the kindness he gave her. Even against his wishes, she still searched for those flowers, wanting so much to prove her dedication and to thank him for their many years of happiness. This year was different however. "N-no flowers...?" Celestielle's eyebrows furrowed as she searched around her usual spot for the flora. "They're not here..." she frowned, holding her crook and basket close. "Where could they have gone? Has someone come and picked them all?"
In the distance were two floating lights. Catching a glimpse from the corner of her eye, Celestielle looked on, her mouth falling agape as she witnessed what she thought were ghosts. The apparitions in question were white, the top of their heads a red hue and in their possession, the flowers! Celestielle's heart raced, wondering if she should run or hide. Dodging behind a tree, she got closer, clenching her stave tightly as she moved closer and closer. "Is that all of them, kupo?" came a squeaky voice. "Yep! Every single one!" came another. Celestielle leaned out from behind the tree, taking a closer look at the ghosts in question.
What she thought were ghosts, however, were in fact creatures known as Moogles. She had never seen one before, let alone two. She suddenly smiled in awe of the creatures she saw, now believing they were not of the void. Her grip loosened around her crook as she set her wicker basket down. "I wonder why they are taking all the flowers...?" she asked herself softly aloud. "Maybe I can ask them for a few?" Without realizing it, a shadow suddenly loomed over her from behind. The Moogles finally noticed the staring Miqo'te and something else... They shrieked in fear, dropping the flowers behind them as they fled, flying as fast as their tiny wings could carry them. "Huh? They ran away... They must have saw me." Celestielle pouted, feeling defeated.
