Zack was right, as unfortunate as it was. The world viewed them as nothing more than monsters, and even if people close to them could see the people behind the masks, they were right. These creatures were monsters that consumed people. Even if it wasn't for sport, but for survival, people didn't really understand that at the end of the day. So they went on, and Zack stated he was happy to have met people that accepted them. Happy to have a friend that he could simply pal around and drink with. Eizen.. he felt the same, if he was honest with himself.
"I know what you mean." He took another sip of his drink. "Do you know how long it's been since I've had a friend outside of the Van Eltia? It has to have been at least forty years." He was showing off his age a bit, but these demons would surely understand the concept of his aging, right? "I am just glad I made friends with such an amazing man." he smiled over at Zack. "It's been awful lonely over here, after all. I don't have that many people who care to hold conversation aside from Rufus."

Eizen admitted to knowing what he meant, considering... not many people were around for him to pal around with, aside from those of the Van Eltia. It had been about forty years for the Malak, causing Zack to chuckle. "Yeah, I get it too. For us, I suppose it's more a trust issue after all of the other people that attempted to get close." Despite those words, his smile never fell. He took another swig of his drink as he leaned against the wooden counter.
"Looking after the family, I think the only person I really hold conversation with is my sister.." He mused a bit, cupping his chin with the palm of his hand. After a moment of silence, the demon's hand cupped at his mouth, coughing into it softly as his head turned to the side. He was looking away now and when his hand removed from his mouth, he let it drag along his pant leg, out of sight and mind.

Zack had explained that, in his case, it had more to do with trust issues than anything. Eizen could see the reasoning for that, taking another drink as he mentioned he only really spoke to his sister nowadays. The Malak was about to respond until the demon began to cough up into his mouth, only to slide his hand down to what seemed like his pants. Eizen's eyes narrowed at the sight of it, and he sure as hell wasn't just going to let that go. "What did you just do?" He could see Zack's look toward him-- as if he were a deer caught in headlights.
That was how the Malak knew something was up. He began to stand up from the table, gazing down at Zack with a firm look. It felt like all of his own fatherly instincts were rushing to the forefront as he made a simple request: "Show me your pant leg." He wanted to see what just happened.

Eizen's voice broke out, asking what just happened and to show his pant leg. Golden irises widened as he looked off to the side, feeling his shoulders tensing slightly. Is this what it felt like to talk to Zack!? Another fatherly presence in his life wasn't something he was exactly used to. The demon's head slowly lifted, gazing up towards the Malak who had moved beside him. A bit of blood had oozed out past the corner of his lips, so once his hand lifted, the entirety of his palm was covered by that same red substance. I'm alright." It was a lie and he knew it, but he was used to it by now and could easily push himself forward.
But he knew those words weren't enough for Eizen like they could easily brush his own family off. This man was a lot like Zack, so holding him at bay was only going to last for so long. With a gentle sigh, his brows bent inwardly, those golden irises closing halfway. "Fine, I've.. been getting worse." He admitted, his hand extended outward a bit, but still held somewhat close to his own chest. "We're slowly earning the money, but.. the percentage of success keeps going lower as time passes." And that was a scary thing.

Eizen knew something was up, surely, but he wasn't expecting what he saw. "Dear god.." The blood that was flowing from his mouth onto his palm-- that wasn't exactly the picture of 'alright'. It wasn't something he was just going to ignore. "You're lying to me, Zack. Talk to me." Rufus had done the same thing in the past with his own illnesses, though this obvious stood a bit higher on the totem pole that the common cold. Zack admitted that he had been getting worse and that money was the issue over anything else. "You're joking, Zack." He sighed out, pulling up a seat beside the demon as he began to take his palm.
"Mate, I'm a pirate. I just finished pulling the best heist of my life yesterday. So what makes you think, for even a second, that I wouldn't shell out the cash?" He was a wealthy man and went through a lot to get his money. How expensive could these medical bills be? Admittedly, he had no clue what the man did for a living, but it couldn't have been anything too high profile at risk of getting himself hurt. "I'll help take care of you. Just name the fuckin' price. I'm not about to lose my only friend to some stupid disease because I decided to pinch my pennies." It only showed how genuine Eizen was about his feelings. He cared about Zack deeply, so there was no chance in Hell he'd let him die while he could have helped it.

Zack slowly looked up at Eizen as he pulled up his seat closer to the demon's person. The Malak stated that he was a pirate and had the money to help, to just name the price. Golden irises widened a bit, his hand slowly lifting to rub the blood away from his mouth. It dragged across his pale skin, staining it with a crimson mark up along his cheek. He sighed a bit, letting his eyes lower a bit as his hand laid back down against his knee. "I wasn't able to get a proper education, because our parents died when Sora and I were still children... We had to get jobs immediately to sustain the rest of our family. So, the jobs we got... they aren't high end or pay a lot. So.. I've been working two jobs since I was a teenager."
He shook his head a bit, blonde strands fluttering about his face. "We have bills, I have to put clothing on my family's back.. I couldn't save up enough over the years. And I couldn't just.. ask someone for the money, it doesn't feel right." But he heard the genuine concern and want to help in Eizen's voice and he knew that this man must have been some sort of exception to the rule. "..This illness is dangerous and rare. It's killing me as the days go by. And if I took the operation now.. even that could kill me." Golden hues lifted towards sapphire then, his brows knitted together a bit.
"I guess.. that scares me. Being taken away sooner than I want to be, all because an operation fails. But I suppose.. it's better than slowly dying and taking the chance."
