The light of a hundred candles illuminated the high-ceilinged chamber. Sitting cross legged alone in the darkness was the Cosmic Emperor, eyes shut as his mind released to the psychic realm.
When his eyes opened the darkness was gone, giving way to a a glittering golden beach that stretched as far as even his eyes could see. He placed his hands in his pockets and stare out at the artificial ocean sparkling with golden sunlight. As far as he could tell, he was completely alone. For now.

With a frown Burter leaned back in his chair. The glow of his computer screen terminal illuminated his otherwise dark barracks room. With a sigh he silently berated himself. Here he was, a stone-cold killer, entrusted with some of the most top secret and dangerous missions the Planet Trade Organization had to offer, and yet he was nervous after researching the mysterious woman named Lilly.
"I need to focus..." he muttered to himself. As backasswards as it was, a distraction was what he needed to get his mind right, and nothing served that purpose quite like some telepathic sparring. As he clutched his gem and closed his eyes he felt the pressure of reality lifting from his shoulders. When he opened his eyes again he was standing on a surreal beach. The golden sands shifted beneath his feet like powder and the far-too-blue-to-be-real water caught the sunlight like only the most gorgeous of gem stones could.
To his left stood a figure in a long trench coat, his hands stuffed in his pockets while he to observed the unnatural setting. "You ever wonder if maybe the places these gems create are real? Like maybe there is some planet out there where all these amazing places exist?" the Batabeurra said nonchalantly, glancing at the statuesque figure.

Chaos didn't have to wait long before another presence made itself known. The blue-skinned humanoid was tall and fit, tho not overly muscular, like an elite sprinter. The Cosmic Emperor greeted the newcomer with a casual half-bow before replying.
"Who can say for sure. Perhaps it is best they don't really exist. I've encountered a few unpleasant constructs in this place, things that could only exist in the darkest corners of the most perverse psyches in the cosmos. I suppose you could say perception is as important as reality, but if you're asking my opinion stranger, I believe everything here is pure psychic energy that exists in a plane parallel to the real people like us experience.
How rude of me, babbling without introducing myself. I am Chaos, Cosmic Emperor, slayer of divinity, ruler of the glorious Cosmic Empire. Who do I have the pleasure of meeting today?"

Burter nodded thoughtfully at the man's reply. He wasn't much for all the mystic mumbo-jumbo of that sort, but his explanation wasn't exactly any more grounded. He sighed, relegating the thought to the bin of questions he figured he'd never find the answers to. The Batabeurra refocused as his counterpart continued. He narrowed his eyes for a moment before breaking into a sly-grin.
"I bet that one gets all the chicks, amirite?" Burter said with a knowing nod. "Nah but for real, that's a pretty impressive title line. I'll say this for sure - you definitely look the part. I'm not really familiar with the Cosmic Empire, though. Am I missing out on something big here? I do get behind the curve from time-to-time."

Chaos' expression flashed amusement, but any hint of it ran from his face when Burter admitted his ignorance of the Cosmic Empire. His eyes narrowed razor thin on the man, softening only slightly when he spoke.
"Something big', is a blasphemous understatement. Such ignorance would usually make you an enemy or a complete fool. However, " he said with a heavy sigh. "It is likely not the case with you. For all the majesty and might associated with the Empire, it still pales in comparison to the heights it had once known. Rather than blame your ignorance I blame myself."
His eyes sunk as he stare blankly across the reflective landscape. Remembering he was in unknown company he corrected his forlorn expression and turned his gaze to Burter.
"If you don't mind indulging me, where are you from anyway?"

Burter blinked, his mind momentarily getting carried away to his home planet of Na'vad. "I'm from no place. I live and breath in the name of the Planet Trade Organization these days, but that just pays the bills man. Never really been a fan of the way the brass runs things. I'm more of a lone wolf, looking for a pack of real niggas. Aint shit like knowing someone's got your back in a tight spot, long as you stand by them when you get the chance."
The Na'vadian looked the Emperor up and down. "I'll bet you got a pack of boys, huh? Yall probably some real dogs too, aint ya?"

Chaos' gaze was faraway as he listened. Being alone, no home, searching for likeminded individuals. Forging bonds so tight that any would be lay their life on the line for their comrades-- oh he understood that all too well, even with a splash of Ebonics. The difference between them, besides height and hue, was that Chaos found what he was looking for. Returning his attention to the PTO soldier he only nodded.
"You could say that. The Planet Trade Organization, huh? I take it there is a short supply of 'real niggas' in that group," he said with a chuckle.

Burter sucked his teeth. "You know something, Mr. Emperor, you never told a lie. Bunch of pussycats looking out for their perfect records and their little careers. Only a couple of them I could really speak good of, but they feel the same as I do," he replied with a shrug. His eyebrows raised then. "Ya know, I don't think I ever gave you my name. They call me Burter, Burter the Blue Hurricane. Don't ask why, cuz I couldn't tell ya, but I've got a good feeling about you. When could I hear more about this Cosmic Empire?"

A sly grin pulled his pale lips. He shut his eyes and nodded warmly.
"Blue Hurricane," he repeated, "I like that."
The PTO were notoriously rigorous in their training of their soldiers, generally starting from only a few years old until adulthood. This Burter fellow, and his intriguing nickname, was likely much more powerful and skilled than most soldiers he had remaining in the Cosmic Empire (though he loathe to admit it). When looking to rebuild his forces he could do much worse and Burter could prove to be a powerful ally if he could be completely swayed from his ties to the PTO. Or, he could be a valuable spy...
Possibilites ran through his mind until his eyes slowly opened, deciding to answer the question at hand.
"You can find out more any time you look to the heavens," he replied cryptically, voice luciferian smooth. He choose his words carefully. It felt that Burter was already on the verge of cutting ties with the PTO at the next best offer, but losing the chance to gain a powerful soldier would be tough to swallow.
He continued. "The history of my Empire is written throughout this galaxy, written in the stars, woven into the very fabric of the milky way's long, arduous tale. It isn't something you can be told-- it is something you have to experience. It's something you feel...perhaps, you feel it now," he said, silver tongue playing the words in velvety tones.
"If you want, you can learn everything about the Cosmic Empire. All you have to do is come with me," he said, red eyes glowing eerily.

Burter listened, nodding intently as the captivating Emperor spoke. He might have been more of a "touch-it-feel-it-its-real" kinda guy, but even he was sucked in like a kid with a good bedtime story. If what Chaos said was true, then he was truly the head of something grand. So was Lord Frost... but then again, how many times had he gotten to have a personal conversation with Lord Frost?
Zero...
"I like the cut of your jib, Mr. Emperor," the Na'Vadian replied. He was cocky, as always, but there was genuine interest in his red eyes. "I think I should be gettin on now. You've got my attention, no doubt. I really hope we run into each other again, this time in the real world. Maybe I can show you some of my moves? You can let a homie know then if he's cut out for the Cosmic Empire crew."
With a fang-toothed grin the Brute winked and vanished with a 'pop'.
