Hayami VS Delyth

"Oh...yeah, I think that's it," Delyth gave a slow nod, as she tried to finish chewing the bite that she had in her mouth. So there were Earth spices in here, huh? "I haven't heard of paprika or mint either."
It was a little spicy, but also a little muted at the same time. It sent conflicting signals to the Damaskian's taste palate, and it seemed like she was still undecided by the time Hayami invited her to sit down. Cradling the bitten Oggie so that no crumbs would slip through her fingers--though, despite her efforts, a few rogue pieces managed to escape--and she sat down next to Hayami with a small smile.
She accepted the second Oggie, but Delyth seemed more appreciative for the water. She took a large gulp of it before smiling, "Thanks, I needed that," she said, before trying a bite of the sticky pie. It was definitely way softer, and the lack of heat didn't bother her much, "Mm, what kind of spices did you put in this one?"
"You...you made all of these? Wow, I don't know how to actually cook half of this stuff yet. Do you do this for fun?"
ReiYesterday at 12:25 PM
"Ah, they are used to enhance food's flavor. Paprika is a hot spice, while mint is used as a sort of refresher," Hayami explained, as she smiled at it looked like the crumbs blew off by themselves and off of the blanket. The Celestial smiled as the girl started to relax and then she offered, "In that one, the outside is sticky rice, while the interior has pepper, a bit of sugar and black soy sauce."
Hayami wondered if Delyth knew what soy sauce was, so she quickly explained, "Soy sauce is made from fermented soy beans. I'm not sure if ya'll are a vegetable farm or a meat, or dairy." She paused a moment and suggested, "If you do farm. I have just a few assumptions." She blushed a bit, embarrassed at her ignorance.
"Ah, yes, I did make them. Cooking is my hobby, you see. It helps keep me sane," Hayami explained. "It can take me hours to get it right. I try not to have too many of the same thing. I like to break through traditional molds every now and then. Is there anything you'd rather have?" She left the water near the Delyth, just in case she'd want more.

Delyth listened to Hayami, nodding as she continued to chew the pie wrapped in sticky rice. Hm, this one was drastically different than the other one, the more she tasted it. It was like a different ball game altogether. Even in terms of spices, the pepper had a different kick to it than the paprika, and there was a lot more umami thanks to the soy sauce.
"You can do a lot with fermenting stuff," Delyth nodded with a grin, "I don't know about soy beans, but this one's also neato. I haven't had this kind of flavor before. What sort of Earth foods do you make then? I don't think I know of what Earth's like."
"We have both livestock and gardens," she continued, "It's best to have one kind of system that supports another--like rotatin' crops. It's a lotta work, but yeah, I don't really think about much when I'm doing it. I guess that keeps me sane too!"
"No, no, this...uh, well, I'll finish these two Oggi's first," the Damaskian bit into the sticky rice one again, "Ma told me to always clean your plate--but thank you."
ReiYesterday at 7:38 PM
Hayami nodded in her comment about fermented foods. "It's rare that they aren't just condiments, fermented things. It's becuase a lot of them are kind of pungent, in my experience." Though she couldn't say that about Mortoseth. They had a lot of interesting foods like that, due to necessity.
"Earth has a lot of different dishes, so it really depends. I specialize in their Asian cuisine, but I mix in several cultural foods. Particularly the spices to change how they come out to be. Those two dishes you had are kind of like croquet. Though in this case, I didn't fry them as hard as an Earthling might like them. It's also because there's a bit more protein. I want the meat's flavor to still be there."
Rotating crops, a kid of something that the Earthlings used to use more often. "Shame my mate couldn't there to work with you, he's stated his own farm and is kind of learning how to do it himself. He doesn't work for the State, so he's quite a bit more restricted than I am in travels." She brought out another thermos, this one had Damaskian tea in it. She opened it and poured herself a cup and sipped on it.
"Sure, I hope both are fine for your pallet. Do you prefer simpler foods? Maybe I'll come looking for you when I next visit Damaskia. I'm currently on Earth, doing some research."
JuchYesterday at 10:47 PM
Delyth finished off the crunchy one--at first, she thought about eating each a little at a time, but the change in flavor was too much for her. Even though it wasn't the foods she remembered, once she had gotten past the initial hurdle, it was smooth sailing from there. And both of them were much more enjoyable now. And now she was able to cool down a bit--so to speak--with the sticky rice Oggie. Still, while she was eating, she listened to Hayami's explanation, giving a nod every now and then. She wasn't that good with conversation when there was good food involved, "Croquet, eh? Haven't really heard of it before. Sounds like a kind of sports thing that people would play, at least to me. But hey, food's food!"
Of course, the water helped again with when she took a bigger bite than she had anticipated, or when it got a little too dry in her mouth. Pretty soon, the water was half done by the time she started on the second meat pie, "Your mate?" she asked with a smile. From what Hayami said, it didn't sound like that person was on Earth, or did it? "Well, it's good to know farmin' still taken seriously by some folks. Some city folk don't seem to put much stake into crops."
"But this is good, I really do appreciate the hospitality," Delyth said, halfway done with her second pie, "I'm good with all kinds of stuff. Fills up the belly, and no reason to be picky. With that said, it's not like I eat a lot of fancy schmancy stuff anyways. Just some home cooking here and there. When you get the chance to come over, then it'd be my turn to treat you, alright?"
"Though you're doin' research?" Delyth asked as she thought about it. Hayami did mention that she worked with Damaskia...but...well, was it in that sort of field? "I didn't take ya to be a science-y type, if I'm bein' honest."
ReiYesterday at 11:24 PM
Hayami smiled and said gently, "You don't really- never mind. I don't want to ruin this moment. I'll gladly accept your hospitality." She sat back and then looked at Delyth and replied calmly, "It's not really to do with science, though sometimes as a member of the Shadowguard you do some tests. As you have see, I'm not a normal person. I have tails, ears, and my aura... should I reveal it... would probably frighten you a bit. I'm super natural, is where I'm going.
My research is into the super natural. It's a field that Lord Pendragon has some interest in. As such, he wants to know about Earth's legends on my apparent race. Thus, he has employed me to do so," she explained, with a few sips of tea, here and there. The Celestial withdrew a bar from her basket and started to eat it. It looked like oats and chocolate, mixed together and is a gloss.
She pulled two more out, and put them in front of Delyth on a napkin. "Yes, my mate lives on Earth for the moment, and so I have free board while there. Otherwise I'm fairly certain I'd have to stay somewhere on my own coin." She then offered with a smile, "Those are granola bars. Do you have them at your farm? They are mostly oats, but I have them coated and held together with a small amount of sugar and honey. They are probably more healthy than they seem, if you've not had them. The dark brown chunks are chocolate chips," she indicated the one with the chips in them.

It seemed like Hayami hesitated at first. Delyth's smile petered out a bit, only to return back to its original form when the fox like girl accepted it. The Damaskian nodded and she took another bite out of the food she had in her hands. One more morsel to go. Perhaps the usual Damaskian may not have offered something like that, but Hayami did work for the state, and Delyth's life on the frontier had her a slightly different sort of view than the typical ones that one might expect for a regular Damaskian.
Of course, Hayami pointed out her ears and tails--those were readily apparent to Delyth. What she didn't expect, on the other hand, was the fact that Hayami not only worked for the state, but she was also part of the Shadowguard! Delyth's eyes grew wide, "You're....you're Shadowguard? Wow, you must be really strong!"
As for super natural research, that wasn't something that Delyth was as able to grasp as quickly, "You mean, like--uh, ghosts and stuff? Do ghosts exist?" she asked, her voice dropping down to a whisper as she thought about it more.
However, she perked up once more at the sight of the granola bars, "Well, we just call 'em grain cakes over there. Granola does sound more fancy though. They're good for a grab and go, but I haven't had some with chocolate before. I had fruit ones though. Can I try one?"
ReiToday at 4:35 PM
"That's why I put 'em in front of you," she replied to her question at the end first. It wasn't like she wanted to answer the Shadowguard question, but it was easier to say something about the grain cakes first. She waited to see which one the other would take before she replied about being within the Shadowguard.
"And yes, I am indeed in the Shadowguard. Alost since birth, it seemed like." That wasn't a lie, either. She was basically born into it, a role that she did not really enjoy. No matter, though, as she did not show such in her body language or face. It was better to let her think what she wanted of the organization. After all, she didn't want to create another scenario like the one on Earth.
"Yes, ghosts and the like exist. My specialty, however, is my own species. We're known by different names, but kitsune is a very adept one. It's a word that means demon fox, in Japanese. But I'll let you in on a secret: I'm a nine tailed fox. It means that once I unleash all nine of my tails, I'm the greatest of my kind." Hayami waved her hand smiled lightly, "In this restricted form, however, I'm limited to three tails. If you ever get to come to Damaskia, you may only see me with one tail."
