Bojack walked into a busy tavern for a drink. He sat in the loneliest seat at the bar and kept his head low. When the barmaid politely asked "What will you be having?" he grunted, pointing at the darkest bottle he could see. The maid nodded and pulled a glass from beneath the counter, but when she looked up Bojack was showing three fingers. She nodded again and obligingly set two more glasses on the counter. His dark poison of choice oozed into the glass, and the maid turned her face away from the smell. Before she had finished pouring the second glass he was throwing back the first, emptying the cup in a single swallow.
Then she said, "Having a bit of a day then are you?"
"Having a bit of a year, I'm afraid." He replied, raising the second glass in salute just before he emptied it. She had just finished pouring the third.
"Oh, you've got big problems then? Nonsense, look at you. A broad pair of shoulders, no tears in your clothes, and don't be too flattered but if it weren't for all the scars you wouldn't be so bad to look at either."
Bojack set the third glass on the bar, it was empty. "There are other kinds of problems."
She put her elbows on the bar and leaned in closer. "I'm listening."
"My problem is...time. I've worked my bones to dust in the last year, and what do I have to show for it?" He grabbed a handful of the various gold medallions hanging over his chest. "A few more shiny things to catch the eye of barmaids."
"That may be worth more than you think." She grinned at him, then picked something out of her pocket and slid it on the counter. It was a picture of a man with long hair, a scraggly beard, and a dark red cloak with a stiff high collar. "This is-"
"I don't care who it is."
"It's your next job."
He looked up at her for the first time but didn't recognize her. That grin said she recognized him though. "You know who I am."
"What? Are the blue cape and black sash your secretive look? Everyone and their dog knows you're in town, but I'm the first one you've come across who can pay."
"And how do you know that?"
"If I weren't you wouldn't be sitting here getting drunk."
Bojack grinned. "Alright, who is he?"
