Health: 52% ![]() | It was impossible for him to know just how long he had been laying there, cold, wet, tip-toeing the line of consciousness and near-death. Breathing was a massive effort as the blood in his mouth and nose clogged his throat. He rolled over to his back, coughing grotesquely as he did, and heard the grinding of his broken ribs. An agonized groan escaped his torn lips and another coughing fit racked his body. His shivers and spasms caused the cold pool he lay in to ripple and spread, crashing against the lip of the puddle in tiny waves. Heavy eyelids slowly slid open letting him stare up at the storm-torn sky, only a tiny glint of red showing between the lids. He blinked away raindrops that gathered on his burnt eyelashes, unable to do much else about it. Usually, his body’s enhanced healing capabilities would have repaired most of the injuries he had sustained by now. But with no Ki to fuel the mitochondrial repair process he was left in a pathetic, utterly helpless state. As he lay there, cold, alone, and defenseless he had only his thoughts to keep him company and rather than reflect on the titanic encounter he just barely survived his mind went to his long lost comrades. In his life he had never had friends, but in that moment of forced solitude he couldn’t help but reflect on those warriors that had come to be his brothers. A fresh tear gathered, indistinguishable from the downpour of rain constantly bombarding his motionless body, and slid down his dirty face leaving a streak in its wake. He remained there for several minutes longer in silence, face scrunched in pain. He was used to being alone, but this pain was less about loneliness and more about loss. Sorrow for what had been, what he had, and what he hadn’t taken the time to appreciate. Now, all he had was time. He forced his mind elsewhere, back to the present, reminding himself that somewhere nearby Joseph might still be breathing. In-between waves of consciousness he had tried to sense the Saiyan’s energy and found nothing. That meant little, however, after watching Joseph stand up from certain death earlier. He propped himself on his elbows, nearly fainting again through the simple act. His vision was a field of silver stars but he squinted hard across the landscape in search of any sign of his opponent. Slowly he lifted himself off the ground, suddenly very aware that his feet were basically raw hamburger meat now. Thankfully, shock had set in and adrenaline still pumped in his veins, serving to mute the unbearable pain. He slumped, suddenly overcome with nausea, and vomited brown and red bile into the pool of rainwater. He choked, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, and stumbled away from the contents of his stomach. There you are… His half-open eyes caught a glimpse of Joseph’s limp body fifty yards out, mangled and twisted in a watery hole. Should have left me alone... Chaos took a step towards him and collapsed. He hit the ground face first, still too numb to feel it. He turned his head so he could see the motionless Saiyan in the distance, half expecting him to stand up at any second. From here, though, he looked dead. Very dead. Somehow, he knew it wasn’t true. In all the years, all the battles, all the wars, this young Saiyan ranked among the most relentless and determined warriors he had ever faced. Very few men had taken Chaos to the limit like this and even if he could drag himself over there he felt little desire to finish his opponent. Given the current state of the galaxy, it could be considered even more heinous a crime to snuff out such potential. On the other hand, destroying the boy now would ensure no more run-ins with the youth. Admittedly, if they crossed paths again Chaos wasn’t sure who would come out on top, a thought that sent a cold shiver down his spine. It was a chill manifested not of fear, but of excitement, and for the first time in ages a smile came to his face. Something about fighting the young warrior today reminded him of one of his fallen brothers, another Saiyan that had taken him to his limits long ago. As his vision blurred he knew the pain and blood loss was coming to claim his consciousness once more. He only had seconds left if that, and staying here when Toffit sends a cleanup crew was not ideal. Chaos forced his left hand to tap a small button behind the neck plate of his armor that sent a signal to the Purifier The dark clouds above him split open as the massive warship knifed through the atmosphere. A Saiyan-class emergency pod rocketed from inside the ship and landed inches from where Chaos lay. The front of the pod hissed with hydraulic motors working and the door opened by sliding away. He grabbed the hand rail and drug himself to a stand before haphazardly tossing himself into the pod. His body slumped against the small seat and the door shut closed a second after. Through the single green-tinted window he could see Joseph still unmoving, barely visible through the relentless curtain of rainfall. As his eyes slowly shut he gave a final nod to his enemy. Had he gone soft? Nah, he told himself as darkness consumed his thoughts. Just lucky… I don’t… have the energy… Besides, Joseph wasn’t guaranteed to survive if left alone anyway, his energy signature undetectable even to Chaos. The escape pod hovered inches off the ground as its emergency autopilot systems kicked in after scanning Chaos’ vitals. His head rolled back in the seat from the force of it suddenly and violently blasting up to the empty warship waiting above as he finally succumbed to much needed sleep. Once docked, the gigantic warship slid back into orbit leaving Joseph behind among the globe-spanning destruction. If he had survived Chaos he would likely survive the storm, though his life was left completely to chance now. If, by some miracle, he survived his injuries there was also the possibility that Joseph would seek him out again, too stubborn for his own good. And if that day does come, the dreaming Emperor could only hope it wasn’t for a long, long time. Actions 1. No Kill 2. No Steal 3 Leave 4. Tactical.
