Hi All,
I wanted to deliver some updated patch guidance. Patches can be fun and exciting, but also maybe a little nerve wracking due to the shroud of secrecy around them. I hope that with the updated patch guidance and a more clear understanding of the process, this will help dispel some of that.
Step One - Gathering Ideas
With an RPG such as this that has been built up for as long as it has been, there’s no shortage of people interacting with different parts of the RPG in different ways and having suggestions for improvements or other cool features.
If you have an idea or suggestion, we want to hear it. The best ways to accomplish this will be by creating a thread on the forum, or posting in the Patch Corner thread. You are encouraged to engage discussion on discord as well.
Unfortunately, not every idea can come to fruition. Maintaining balance is the ever present struggle on the site so that must come first and foremost. If a suggestion or idea is ‘rejected’ whenever possible the mod team will provide reasoning as to why.
Once a handful of patch topics are brought up, they will be brought to Alex for a preliminary approval. Here he can either thumbs up them to move to the next step, deny them as things he does not want to pursue, or require additional information. Items that are denied will need to be reassessed altogether, and those that are on the fence may move forward depending on the feedback. A preliminary approval does not guarantee the approval of a suggestion.
Step Two - The Work
When items are given the green light to move forward, depending on the scope of the change, a thread will be opened to solicit feedback and suggestions on the topic. Smaller changes will likely have minimal discussion attached to them, but the larger changes will be where everyone can add feedback. These threads will be your opportunity to see the proposed change, add feedback or concerns!
The mod team will still hold the role of maintaining balance and getting the process fine tuned for a final approval.
One important note here, if something is deemed too complex or upon digging further into it, it’s decided the changes are not worth the time and effort, a topic may be put on the back burner or scrapped. There are various other reasons something may be delayed, but this information will be provided.
Step Three - Finalized Patch
This step will not be changed much, but for those unaware this process is typically the same per patch.
When the patch suggestions are deemed complete and ready to go, they will be sent to Alex for review. Things may change from their proposed version, or need to be worked on before being given approval. As with every other step, that communication will be provided where necessary.
The items that are given an Alex approval will be implemented over the course of a few days depending on the scope. It is my goal to have the patch implemented in <1 day from the time of approval, however.
If you have any questions regarding the patch process, expectations or any other topics please let me know!
